Do you think tap water is safe?

In Florida it varies from county to county and town to town; a lot of places here have well water in which case it usually either causes rust stains, smells like sulfur or tastes a little funky, unless you have a nice filter and treatment system. The municipal water is hyper-chlorinated pretty often leading to boil water advisories but it's safe between flushes. Mostly.

That's not always the case. In, for example, South Korea the water in the water supplies is very clean and drinkable, but the plumbing often consists of old pipes that contaminate the tap water, sometimes giving it a nasty taste/color. Same goes for other countries in SE Asia.

I meant the US for the most part but sure I wouldn't be too sure on other countries.

I suppose if you're in an area with fracking (I'm not trying to start a conversation about this, I'm making a neutral comment about it!) they might be trying to protect you from any potential ramifications of that.

However generally if you're in a first world country more often than not tap water is safe... I'd even say both better for you and the environment than bottled.
