    In Florida it varies from county to county and town to town; a lot of places here have well water in which case it usually either causes rust stains, smells like sulfur or tastes a little funky, unless you have a nice filter and treatment system. The municipal water is hyper-chlorinated pretty often leading to boil water advisories but it's safe between flushes. Mostly.

    I suppose if you're in an area with fracking (I'm not trying to start a conversation about this, I'm making a neutral comment about it!) they might be trying to protect you from any potential ramifications of that.

    However generally if you're in a first world country more often than not tap water is safe... I'd even say both better for you and the environment than bottled.
