I agree that it's a bad game design that forces players to do things.

For that reason, all the difficult content should be removed, or at least be subject to gear scaling, so those players don't feel forced to min/max all other content to prepare for it.

So, keep complaining about being forced, folks. Blizzard may listen and take action. It just might not be the action you want.
