And why are all sound systems so damn expensive? I don't need insane sounds that echos over the entire city, I just want a decent surround system for movies and music, it doesn't have to be the best quality in the world since I won't be able to tell the difference anyway..

Expensive? You can get philips surround sound systems for less than 200€.

Cheapest one I could find was 435€ with 33% off, but it was sold out. Found some interesting stuff on my local media store though, also around the 400-500€ range. Those prices are fine, most of the ones I found was 1k+ though.

There isn't a lot of difference between the cheaper ones and the premium ones at lower volumes. And I can't turn up the volume too high in an apartment either way.

I don't use amazon or ebay for expensive tech thingies. Have to make sure the power connectors are the right ones, or get a universal converter which I don't have.
Also if it malfunctions it will be a lot more hassle to get it fixed.

Well 400-500 was the range I was looking for. Im sure we have those lower priced 200 ones as well, but they are probably found in stores that are not primarily focused on tech, like Biltema etc. Im not looking for the best, but I think 200 will probably just be a waste that will have to be replaced quite fast.

Even headphones comes with 7.1 virtual surround now, although I've found its worse for games like CS. Not used it for movies and most other games since I tend to use speakers for everything else.

It's not even true 7.1 either, just smart approximation since headphones (I assume always) mostly have 2 drivers. Had a set of 7.1 surround though, they were okay, but I didn't notice lack of spacial awareness when I swapped to a set of generally good headphones.

I almost never use speakers, though i have my sound system chair that has everything built in if i want to listen to some music without headphones, mostly when i want to listen to my records.
