I'm currently in the process of learning Spanish, and after a few lessons (6-7) I am already able to make myself more clear in more ways than saying "Hello", "Goodbye", and ordering food/drink, and its grammar is a lot like English.
I have no idea when it comes to French though; I personally drive through that country ASAP when heading for Spain.

I terms of practical use Spanish by far. It's spoken in far more places than French and it's actually almost required for a lot of jobs in the U.S.

Yeah. Spanish is easy. The grammar isn't that far off English, just a little consistent reordering of words. The spelling is super straightforward. The pronunciation is pretty consistent. And like half of the vocabulary is shared with English. Don't know how to say something in Spanish? Just take the most complicated English word for the idea and give it some Spanish flavor. To chew is to masticate, so masticar! It works most of the time.

Sorry folks but please remember that we only allow posting in English on the forums, so whilst you're free to discuss which language you prefer, please don't actually post in a different language, thanks!

Learn spanish. It's a more useful size, as those people from Latin America breed like rabbits and are flooding the USA. The only place where you could make use of your French would be France, mostly, and they might not even like you.

Spanish is more useful and, in my opinion, more beautiful. I've wanted to learn Spanish for quite a while now, but been too lazy to actually do it.

Portuguese sounds to American ears like whining.

Some regions in China speak Cantonese not Mandarin.

    To the original poster:

Spanish is more future proof. French is much more beautiful imo. Spanish has another perk, learn it well enough and you will understand lots of Portuguese words too.

English has way more people speaking it than only 335 million. The USA alone has 320 million people plus all the other English speaking countries and African countries.

Why must French use 5 extra letters in each word that are silent and completely pointless? Embellishing the words to seem more luxurious?

I love Spanish though: it's a really straightforward and logical language.

Yeah, with Canton itself being the sole example of "some of the regions" that speak Cantonese.

People just don't comprehend how widely different Chinese dialects are, and how many of them are there.

Spanish is likely slightly easier but an ugly language imo.

French all the way. (He said without any trace of bias.)

Spanish is, for practical use, much better.

    I would say French.

Spanish in Spain is... not pretty. At all. Latin American Spanish sounds better, but eh, I'd say French anyway, despite them only pronouncing half the word

French can sound quite ugly itself it's very... mouthy some people talk as if they're actively eating.

French is a rather useless language to learn. Spanish on the other hand is a widespread language.
