What I found interesting about this story in particular was that a dispatcher had contacted the family to inform them of the situation with the bull and apparently specified their responsibility for the animal. I am eager to find out where the breakdown in communication between the officers and dispatch happened that led to them reacting the way they did when the rancher appeared on the scene with his rifle (meant for the bull, not the officers).
This won't get much widespread media play since race isn't an issue in the story and it involves middle of the country white hicks that most people on either coast would rather die than be mistaken for, but here it is for anyone interested in talking about it.
Additionally, the officers caused the unnecessary suffering of an animal by trying to put it down with a belly wound instead of something immediately fatal.
Sounds pretty tragic to me.
