everything is silly
Daetrin pointed out that it would've been a significantly better movie if they'd just removed Rey and made Finn the unawakened Jedi, and at risk of donning the "I have no opinions of my own" T-shirt, I wholeheartedly agree.
And while--as a writer--I'm 100% guilty of playing the same "SHE'S MY FAVORITE" card with Zeph as they did with Rey, I'm actually thematically justified in doing so because [OSaS spoiler] and I'm also far less guilty of using my favoritism to invoke the Black Hole Sue trope (go look it up on TVTropes, can't link shit in spoilers).

Heh well depends on how you would fill the plotholes left by Rey's absence, either of them defeating Kylo is/would be unsatisfying.
"In the rare cases when Sue fails, it will usually be a temporary setback that will either prove advantageous in the end or else just serve to hammer in the point of how special the character is." And Rey fits both of those requirements, wow!
Nope. No bets. Mostly 'cause I don't care enough.
*What* plotholes, though? In reality not very much significant changes if you cut out Rey. Sure, you get problems like "Well now Finn gets abducted so Kylo's interrogation scene has different undertones" and "Now Finn has to conveniently understand everything about machinery designed and built by a couple hundred people working together" but I mean really, the story would survive largely untarnished, wouldn't it? I can't think of a single thing that would arise and become a significant roadblock (speaking as a writer) if you were to just take out Rey.
Rey got by because someone on the filmmaking side really fuckin' loved her yet somehow didn't care enough to actually give her legitimate in-universe reasons for pulling as many save-the-day stunts out of her ass as she does. I at least do that for Zeph, dammit--I love her to death but she's got to have reasons and ways to do what she does that aren't "Well I like her so *screw you*!"

I suppose there wouldn't be anything significant, no, the first two thirds of the film they were simply couriers so nothing changes there, and Finn probably wasn't needed when he with Han and Chew so he could take Rey's place.
Plenty of little gaps though, and if you have to make Finn a Mary Sue to fill those in then it's not an improvement.
Your character is starting to sound like Blackjack from Project Horizons.
I removed my eye today. Thought I'd make a change because of the new year.
Uh
Completely unrelated note, does anyone want to go rape and pillage? You know, just casually.
I mean, were you to replace Rey's roles with Finn then literally the only reason you'd have to make him a full-on Gary Stu would be to finangle his way around all those little gaps, e.g. the minor tech issues that Rey 'solves' by virtue of having been a scavenger for most of her life. All the big gaps would be mostly conquered by him being a better, more interesting character than Rey, if only marginally.
Haven't read FoE or PH. I do know Blackjack ends up losing limbs and becoming part-cyborg at some point, and I can happily say Zeph's never gone through that level of physical trauma. Any other similarities I know bugger all about and I guarantee they're not intentional.
All that said, arc 1 of OSaS should be finished sometime within the next 1-3 months, so maybe you can tell me then how similar they actually are.
