Not related to this post directly, but I just found that Steam did officially state no transactions were made (aa far as they know) :

Only issue is people who could use the information they saw for other things, but there's absolutely nothing that can be done against that now... and this could only affect a really, really low number of people, only those who saw pages during the issue, and at the exact right time for their version of that page to be cached for everyone else (like, one person every 5 minutes for each page or so). If no one sends you a message on Steam telling you that they could see xxx info about your account, best not to worry about it. Overall very few people had their info visible by others, since everyone was seeing the same (which is why those affected probably have already received messages by now, if not by Steam, then at least from one of all those who saw their account).Steam is back up and running without any known issues. As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users.
Also makes it clearer that this was no hacking, but them messing up... and that's actually a quite common way to mess up a website, not the first time I see it, even on a quite large commercial website (even though never as big as Steam, someone will lose his job I think o.o).
Oh, hi.
