First time "Gaming PC" Build advice needed

    Hey all,

I'm trying my hand at putting together my first gaming pc (always just bought normal desktops and updated ram and video cards to be honest).

The goal is to put together something that will run most new games well (fallout 4) as well as be powerful enough to take on the new vr tech that will be coming out soon.

I've tried a build on Cyberpower and I "think" it should be good for what I need. However since I'm very very green at this I could be missing something important so it would just be GREAT if I could get some help from people smarter in this area then I am.

I'm trying to stay around the $1000 mark but obviously if I have to spend more to make the build work that is fine.

Thanks so much for the help!

You want to build the PC on your own or you want to use Cyberpower ?
I would replace the CPU,GPU and AiO Watercooling.
AMDs CPUs are outdated go for the I5 6500 or the 6600k. (DDR4 can then be used)
The GTX 970 is a good GPU but you get a AMD R9 390 for the same price and the 390 offers more.
AiO Watercooling is nice and shiny but a good Aircooler is cheaper, quiter and holds longer.

First off thanks for taking the time to respond!

It's been quite a while since I've tired to do this sort of thing so personally I'd prefer to use something like Cyberpower. Unless there are better ones out there I do not know of?

I'll see about making those changes and post a revised build.

    Thanks again.

I had to pick a different pre built on the site, that other one did not have an Intel option.

I switched the cpu and gpu to what you suggested, and also changed the cooling to air.

How is it looking to you now?

Yes, you have to assemble it yourself, but it's not that difficult. I'm not convinced that Cyberpower is the best option for you, if you have a few hours over one weekend.

The build you linked the second time, Ravex, is odd since you have a K series chip that can overclock with a Z170 board that can overclock as well for the CPU, but then a default Intel fan. I would at least bump the CPU fan to the Coolermaster 212 EVO to give you some headroom for a very simple overclock while still providing much better cooling than Intel's fan.

The generic 600W PSU is kind of troublesome as well, since this is where you don't want to skimp on the maker. Make sure to get a decent brand that is reputable like EVGA, some Corsair models, and Seasonic.

With how cheap SSD's are today, I don't see any reason to go for a 128GB drive and think 256GBs are the minimum someone should go as a system drive.

I would go for Tenangrychicken's build if you're comfortable with spending 30 minutes watching a "how to build a computer" video. If you're going to a PC maker for a warranty though and don't want to be in the picture at all when it comes to troubleshooting, I guess that's understandable. As said though, if you have even the tiniest of PC knowledge, I'd build my own.

I'll tale a look at that build, I ended up not going with my original because they only ship ups and it's going over the border, don't want to get dinged.

I'll look up a bit of pc building, see If I am up to the task. I'm sure I can handle it might jsut need to be more patient then usual lol.

Thanks a bunch for your input tenangrychickens and Danno!

I'd change the CPU cooler for a Pure Rock or Cryorig H7 and the SSD for a 850 EVO but whatever.
