Why are the Norwegians so bad at war in Crusader Kings? Like, do they just have pointy sticks or something?

Literally the worst, an insult to all my fellow Norwegians everywhere.

They are no worse off than the other nordic pagans, its being tribal and the lack of heavy units that is the problem, it can be countered to some degree against the Christians down south by fighting defensive battles, e.g over a strait but unless you vastly outnumber them reforming the religion and going republic/feudal should be a priority.

Also, gets you out from gavelkind, which is a blessing on its own.

Norway is awesome, dude. You have those amazing claims that let you take entire kingdoms in one go in scandinavia. Just much up a few smaller nearby rulers while waiting for sweden to grow big, then eat their entire kingdom in one go. If you're lucky you can conquer most of scandinavia without having your ruler die before you can remove that shitty hereditary policy that obliterates your mighty kingdom when your king perishes.

Then you take the british isles and carry on to form a world empire of norse power!

Then you spend the rest of the game worrying about how to make you map look good. What's up with all these claims swapping around constantly? Why do all my vassals own land in five different parts of the continent? It's so ugly.

You are in the wrong time period to what I am talking about, Norway is already Feudal and mostly Catholic, but units suck in battle, Sweeden with less land can raise more troops. A stack of about 6k Norwegian troops vs 2k of Irish/Welsh with no modifiers on the land for either side managed to lose, both started with the same moral and this wasn't just one occasion, happened again and again, weak tech makes for weak units.

Early bookmarks, yeah, they are great, but that's when everyone else are peasants too.

It's obviously because Paradox is full of dirty Swedes who can't stand that Norway is the greatest Scandanavian nation
