    Pronunciation of words

During a recent pathfinder game, the topic came up that I was pronouncing certain words incorrectly. So, what are people familiar with for these words?

"Ichor" - I pronounce it "eye-core" and others say its "ick-or"

"Chitin" - I pronounce it "kite-n" and others say its "chit-in"

Any other words you found out you've been saying incorrectly for a while?

EDIT: A lot of those 'pronunciation' programs and websites use automated software and may not be correct, before people start linking them.

Ichor I've never said out loud, but I've been thinking it's ick-or

Chitin I first thought was chit-in but then heard it pronounced kite-n, so went with that.

Your pronunciations are correct, though I've always found the spellings odd. I have a few buddies that says "si gul" instead of "sij-ul" (sigil).

A southern accent makes pronunciations a bit different from everyone else's. I don't have a thick one but it's there. Having a tied down tongue also doesn't help. :/

As per wikitionary, you're correct and they are wrong:
    ichor - IPA: /ˈaɪkɔɹ/
    chitin - IPA: /ˈkaɪtɪn/
There are likely variant pronunciations too, but I don't have access to the OED to check right now.

Ichor is pronounced, "i-kor". Your proposed pronunciation is so close as to be irrelevant.
Chitin is pronounced, "kai-ten" or "kai-tin". The latter is just a different emphasis. "Chit"-in is incorrect.

Whomever told you your pronunciation was incorrect may be mishearing an accent, enunciation or can not read the English language. The words are pronounced exactly as I wrote above.

    Gigabyte
Original: gig-a-by-t (or something along those lines)
Me: jig-a-by-t (J as in Jesus)

I can control myself in formal speeches but I often use the wrong pronunciation in casual convo.

Merging open and open mid vowels is common among Canadians. Canadians from the east or Great Lakes region may even share a flat A in pronunciation with Great Lakes states in the US. The difference among Can and US accents is very slight but mid vowel merging is a subtle tell from the mid to western Canada.

Yes, I am that kind of nerd.
