This makes sense. Sarcasm is usually in the voice and body language, not the words themselves.

I suggest a reversed italic, italic tilted to the left instead. This way it's subtle enough to be passed as italic (simulating intonation difference) but noticeable if you pay attention.

The mods put it in the official rules, but not enforce it.

Posters who post more frequently can mention it to newer posters, and soon a non-breakable habit will form.
