Any list like this would be lacking if it doesn't include Firefly on it somewhere. Granted, it only survived one season before the dunces at Fox cancelled it, but it's still a very, VERY good show. Space Western by Joss Whedon... what's not to love?

I agree with Dexter and Battlestar Gallactica. Gallactica got progressively stranger and more religious into the later seasons, but even then it was still very good, just not AS good (when being judged as straight sci-fi) as it started off. I also quite enjoyed Farscape. Surprisingly good show, produced and featuring creatures made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

House of Cards, obviously. House of Lies, too. Oh, and Lie to Me (still upset that one got cancelled, was an excellent premise, superbly cast, and really well written.)

Then of course you have everything with the word "Marvel" on the tin. That should pretty much go without saying at this point.

    Archer
    Banshee
    Battlestar Galactica
    Daredevil
    Deadwood
    Firefly
    Game of Thrones
    Penny Dreadful
    Person of Interest
    Rome
    Silicon Valley

For upcoming shows I have high hopes for Preacher, Son of Zorn, new Star Trek, Pure Genius and The Great Indoors.

It's not going to be the same type of show as those obviously but I've been binging The Amazing World of Gumball like crazy lately. If you want short episodes of concentrated cartoon madness, that's where to go.

Honestly, I left it off my list deliberately. Sure I enjoy Firefly, it's a good show...but it's just a GOOD show. As far as quality goes, I feel it's absolutely blown out of the water by stuff like Breaking Bad, The Shield, Deadwood, Justified, SoA, and many other GREAT shows. I left Leverage off my list for the same reason, despite really enjoying that show as well(moreso than Firefly, actually), same with shows like Law & Order, NCIS, and Criminal Minds.

I left House of Cards off my list cause I just don't enjoy it. It's really well done and such, I can't fault the QUALITY of the show, but since almost every character is just so loathsome I just can't find any joy in watching it. I mean, these characters are such sleazy, slimy, terrible scumbags that they make the protagonists of shows where the leads are a gun running biker gang, a meth cooker, a serial killer, or a bunch of corrupt cops seem like genuinely great people!

I left The Sopranos and The Wire off my list cause I haven't seen them...fairly sure I'd like them both, if I did.

Swedish/Danish series, Bron/Broen, or the English name The Bridge

Alternatively the danish crime series The Killing, Don't you dare to watch the horrifically bad American remakes.

    Black Sails
    Banshee
    The Wire
    The Shield
    Game of Thrones
    Breaking Bad

So many good stuff to watch out there.

No, it's overrated. Don't get me wrong, I like it and watch it, but it's NOWHERE NEAR as good as people say. Most episodes seem to be a borefest until the last 10 mins and then something happens that makes you watch the next one. It's worth watching, but I don't think it's on par with some other series.

    Supernatural
    Daredevil
    Jessica Jones
    House of Cards
    Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
    Better Call Saul

If I can think of/remember anymore I'll edit.

Weird noone has mentioned "House" such a great show.
Supernatural is also a great journey, season 1-6 is probably the best thing ive ever watched.

If that was the case I'd go watch porn. I actually don't care about the nude scenes because there's much better bodies to look at online. There's a way and pace to do story, and there's many times where GOT does it incorrectly so that it becomes fillerish and drawn out. It's similar to TWD.

I can understand why you might then find it boring, since you don't know what's really happening and what's to come.
I do like to follow the story, I think it might just be moving too slow for me as it seems like quite a few episodes go by and nothing really happens. When it picks up it really does pick up, that's for sure though. As I said, I do watch it and will continue to, but for me it's definitely not in the "must watch" category.

It's really pretty damn good in terms of:

    1) Story, both the underlying story and the storytelling in each episode
    2) Suspense
    3) Acting
    4) Sets, costumes, coordination, special effects. You often get this feeling of "how is this even a TV show and not a movie". It feels really high quality.

The themes are pretty universal, it's about intrigue, power, good vs bad.

The outlook is usually kind of depressing, cause life is depressing, things go wrong, good people get fucked over and bad guys win. This is both good and bad. It's good cause it's realistic and daring (and keeps things exciting, because it doesn't follow the usual "good guys win and things will work out" theme), but it can also be quite depressing and annoying sometimes. Like when a great character with a lot of potential dies far too early.

There's also quite a bit of violence, gore, torture, cruelty. So much that I think it might be too much for some of the fainter souls. I personally found a couple of scenes very nasty to the point where I had to look away. There's also lots of nudity that might be considered somewhat sexist.

Overall, I highly recommend the show. It's highly gripping and immersive.

Shows I really recommend in no particular order

    The X-Files
    Battlestar Galactica
    Orange is the new black
    Daredevil
    Jessica Jones
    24
Breaking Bad (You already listed that though)
    GoT (again, already listed)
Walking Dead (but I kind of lost interest this latest season)
    Buffy (very underrated show)
    Firefly
    House of Cards

I can't think of many more that have not already been listed. I never got into some of the other ones so I can't recommend them

    Narcos for sure,
    Band of Brothers...
    both are real events based.

I'd at least try Vikings were I you. GoT is okay but its just a poor/shallow version of the books if you've read them due to the medium. I'd always point someone towards reading those books instead of watching the show.

If we're going to say a TV is "overrated" and not a "Must Watch", it shouldnt be because of your inability to follow the story because you have a shorter attention span and get "bored" easily.
There is not something happening every scene, you can say there is, but there isn't. I have followed the story and there's a lot of slow ones that are dragged (oh hey Brann), there's some episodes that could also be summed in 15 mins instead of an hour, just like TWD..

I get that you seemingly have a hardon for GOT, but to dismiss an opinion as "inability to follow the story" and to claim that "there is something happening every scene" is just wrong, there's a lot of people that don't like GOT, and it's not because they're not following the story. I guess this will fall on deaf ears because there is no reasoning with some people, but GOT will always be overrated to me because it has nowhere near the quality or storytelling ability of other series and is simply not as good as people say.

I know why you say 1-4. But the story arc around 3-4-5 really makes it. 1 - 5 is the best imo. Charles Logan was the ultimate bad guy imo. 6 was a piece of shit and 7 8 and 9 are very individual.
