Demonology: Hand of Gul'dan & Implosion as ST talent choice?

Hey there, I just leveled my Warlock to 100 today (after I spent over 12 months without WoW and just returned because of Legion) and I really like the new Demolock.

You must know that I am a Warlock newbie (I played WL in Classic and TBC but since then he's been just a twink).

How do I spend my Soulshards when Dreadstalkers are on CD? Implosion is a huge damage skill especially when used with a 4 shard HoG - I tend to play with Shadowflame and Implosion and it turned out to be quite nice.

Is there a guide for all the different Demo talent specs or something like that? If yes, I would like to read it if not it would be great if we could discuss my questions here.

Generally the current basic rotation is: Empower demons to get 5 shards at pull, apply doom, cast HoG if you have 4-5 shards, empower demons instantly, cast demonbolt(if specced)/shadowbolt to fill shards.

It has been discussed in great detail in the Beta Demonology thread. It is a small loss on ST and a huge gain in any Cleave or AoE fight.

The guide is a bit unclear on this though. It sounds like you want to use it on ST too IF you chose the talent.
Or do you mean it's a small DPS loss over picking one of the other talents?

Well, yes, of course you would. But it's not a talent you should have in a pure ST encounter. As the guide and the stickied beta thread both explain, you Implosion immediately following the cast of your next HoG.

Yes if you have it, you use it all the time. Mostly straight after you cast a new HoG to murder your old imps into glorious explosions.

Atm it seems like a ST loss over Improved Dreadstalkers, but with talent switching being a pain, it's only a small loss.

You used to be able to do it with the power trip talent but it has since been changed to only work in combat.

if you had had chosen Power Trip as talent, you were able to get 5 shards before pull.
But they hotfixed it.
