Germany planning deep changes due to the threat of terrorism

    Source: http://www.dw.com/en/maiziere-cdu-cs...ban/a-19462299

German newspapers report that Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere intends to present new measures that he says will - and could take effect without the approval of the Bundesrat, the lower house of parliament. According to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and the national broadsheet Bild, de Maiziere wants to speed up deportations of rejected asylum applicants and loosen privacy protections.

Maiziere plans to institute "threat to public safety" as a ground for deportation, Bild reported on Wednesday.
According to Bild, Maiziere also wants to work with the Health Ministry to water down patient confidentiality to allow doctors to report people whom they believe to be potential threats to public safety.

On Tuesday, newspapers reported that Maiziere and state interior ministers from the Christian Democrats (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) were looking to introduce massive changes to the legal system. The ministers would also deploy up to 15,000 more police officers' by 2020 and arm them more heavily, as well as affix them with body cameras and increase video surveillance of public places and transit.

They would also introduce a ban on burqas, the full-body garments worn by some Muslim women, and an end to dual citizenship, which they consider "a great hindrance to integration." Germans with more than one nationality who are found to have fought for terror organizations would lose their citizenship. "We reject these split loyalties," the ministers announced in a joint statement. "We suggest that those who want to engage in the politics of foreign governments leave Germany."

The plan also calls for harsh punishment for religious leaders of foreign extraction who make inflammatory statements: "We call for the prompt deportation of non-German hate preachers."
De Maiziere and his regional CDU-CSU counterparts will meet on August 18 in the nation's capital to sign the "Berlin Declaration," which they have put together via teleconferences. These changes, however, would require the approval of the Bundesrat.

Those things seem to be good in general. It comes down to what the actual changes are. This seems very abstract for now.
But I would not support a general ban on burqas. I do not think that the state should have any say in what the citizens should wear. But I think that there would need to be rules if someone wants to identify the person. There was a case were a woman with a burqa wanted to pick up her child from school which ended in a debate on whether she would need to unveil herself so that the teacher can see if she is the mother.
And I like the model we have now for the dual citizenship. I would not change that. And it is not that easy to get dual citizenship. Additionally some people would not even be able to get the german citizenship because there are some countries who don't let you revoke their citizenship.

Well the destruction of the German identity and the degrading safety of German citizens were two large parts of how Hitler rallied support in the mid 20s.

Everything but wanting to end dual citizenship seems reasonable to me.

They really only want to get rid of dual citizenship for people from Turkey (which they made possible only just recently) because of Erdogan's habit of using his 'citizen' in Germany to influence German elections and for blackmail. And I must say I agree, people should be forced to choose loyalties before being allowed on the federal elections.

I would've thought such minor responses would be in place already.

Germany is goneeeeeeeeeeeee. It may have taken 3 attempts but they've finally destroyed themselves and western europe too. Thank god I don't live over there, I'd be like that German family in the news atm who drove to Russia and applied for asylum.
I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it.

You haven't read the article, have you? Just random words put into somewhat coherent sentences without any connection to current political events...

How exactly would any of these changes help fight terrorism? Sounds like just a set of random measures aimed at making some non-native Germans feel unwelcome in the country - that's not how you fight terrorism, that's how you support it.

This is not strictly just for the fight against terrorism. The purpose of these proposals is to fight terrorism and also limit Islamic extremism in Germany. Removing dual citizenship is obviously directly aimed at Erdogan's attempts to influence German policy with the German-Turk nationals.

Basically, this seems to be a broad sweep to deal with different effects that start to piss Germans off. Consider it a slight shift to the right, if you like. So far, I see no problem with any of these proposals and hope they go through.
