The Fix-My-DPS thread (Legion Edition) [READ FIRST POST]

Good morning!

The main reason for this thread is to get some advice from the warlocks who have mythic raiding experience also high mythic + experience! i will post my logs down below for people to look at however if i can not post, my character name is Elmuniai-Ravencrest EU.

I have been raiding heroic emerald nightmare and +6-10 mythic dungeons over the last few weeks i have most logs on warcraftlogs for my raids. I seem to never get about blue rank on Warcraft logs i'm currently 872 in Destruction with 26 traits - i have 35% haste also.

My demo trait is at 21 and my affliction is now at 27. I keep changing spec due to thinking one spec is better than the other so i'm to blame for wasting so much artifact power.

My question is which spec should i purely focus on and keep sticking artifact power in? i know people will say (choose the spec you like the most) but in my opinion how is that the case my demonology does 70k more St DPS than my Destruction ? my Destruction does double my demo on 2+ targets.... i mean how do you guys just pick one and master it? especially on progression in raids and mythic + when you need to do as much DPS as possible.....

The above are warcraft logs, and trinkets i have.

I just really need help deciding a spec and improving on that spec the most, like which spec will be good in 7.1.5-7.2 nighthold as well so many choices....

I can't decide which trinkets to use on which spec or which traits to choose or anything ATM i just keep making mistakes....

also i don't understand simcraft and pawn how they work i always end up with incorrect weights mistakes being made...

Hello all,

I have been playing Warlock since I started playing the game. I have been lurking on all the threads and in discord to try and leach as much knowledge as possible. I feel like there is something I might be missing or just not doing correctly. I normally don't die to mechanics but have been known to have a bad night. I feel like my dps is not reflecting the work I have put into my character.

-870 Twisting Wind
-860 Portable Manacracker
-860 Oakheart's Gnarled Root
- 860 Padawsen's Unlucky Charm (with socket)
-845 Devilsaur Shock-Baton
- 855 Naraxas' Spiked Tongue

I also have 35 points in my demo wep. I know I need to get the Demo belt and bracers. I appreciate any and all help and input.

So a Destro Warlock in our guild is struggling to stay consistently high on damage, I'd love to hear what you guys can find, as I don't play warlock, so I might be missing something

Not the best Destruction fight, especially without the Belt leggy. If known in advance that Bloodlust/Heroism will be at the end, he should get his "Lord-of-Flames" Infernal out in the end, not at pull, but that would not make much of a difference.

He could also try speccing into Wreck Havoc to have more uptime on the 2-target cleave, but again, without the belt, you would probably be even more shard starved. With only 4 shards wasted, this was rather well played anyway.

Can't see the replay, so don't know if there is potential to optimize movement a bit more.

Hello, I should start this out by saying im brand new to wow having just started playing the end of October. I just cant seem to pull the DPS numbers i feel like i should be pulling in raids and in Mythic+ dungeons. Sometimes dropping even below 200k. I'm ilevel 861 right now with 22 traits on my artifact weapon. I have uploaded all my logs to warcraft logs. But i cannot post any links my account name on warcraft logs is madman1391 (i hope that is enough to find my logs). Overall none of my fights seem to be that spectacular. I dont know if theres something im missing about Demo or if its something im doing wrong because im a noob and just don't have the base knowledge that other players might have. Any help would be appreciated. My character name is Calystö on Tichondrius in the US.

This expansion i'm a bit more serious with my raiding, unfortunately my server is not that full of people to get a mythic EN going but glancing at my first log i recorded today I have PLENTY to improve in HC.

Problem is I don't know what to look for. I'm aware I might lack the optimal talents for each fight, but i do take along potions, flasks and food. I'm not sure if it's my rotation, i try to follow the stickied destro guide but it still feels im not putting out enough.

For everyone taking the time to look into this, it's greatly appreciated!

First, the setup stuff.
turn 4-5k of that haste into mastery and some crit. Get another bunch of traits. Aff really cares a lot of # of traits because of how reap doubles their effectiveness.

Now the play stuff.
Looks like you missed some Siphon uptime on the boss, and many refreshes of Agony and Siphon on the effigy. Can't be letting your dots drop, especially agony. Try to put it down in the middle of the room on the pull so you can easily refresh from both sides. I use my portal to get to the stack point before feeding time.

Your REAP usage needs a lot of cleaning up. On this fight, reap for Wrath of Consumption stacks from the spiders, bloodlust, and potion. This view of the logs is what I mean (here's mine for comparison).

Hi there. Our guild has two Demonology Warlocks (Traeradra and Peungy) who are consistently low on the damage meters. One is more geared than the other, but both seem very low for their ilvl based on the percentiles. They are great with mechanics but just have very low output.

It's impossible to answer all the posts here individually however I could write a guide on how to do a simple comparison and what to look for in Destro and Demo logs (I don't have enough current experience with Affliction in order to do one for this yet). If people really wish for long term improvement you are far better learning how to evaluate your own combat logs and where you are continuing to make mistakes.

Let me know if there is any interest or if there is perhaps there is something like this already out there. I have found a couple of nice guides over on Icy Veins and the official WoW forums but they are out of date and do not have detailed information on Legion rotations (and the mistakes people make).

Thanks for this. Unfortunately I don't have any Warlock experience so it's hard for me to dechiper my logs above. What kind of uptimes should we be looking for for Demonology Warlocks? How would we know if Soul Shards are being wasted? And what's the best way to figure out whether DE is being cast after each summon?

He really needs better trinkets Ravaged seed is pretty bad, even world q int/haste would be better even if low ilvl, rotation was okey movement needs work, he should spec for Burning rush and set gate/portal before the fight and use them

Read more guides and for talents for pure ST (Nythe, Ursoc hc) always take Soul counduit and GoServ. Dont cap on shards and for movement always take Burning rush and use it often + make sure you always have something to cast while moving portal/conflag and think ahead were are you going to move if you get rot or like breath coming at you. You have bis lege and good trinkets so gear is not problem just focus on movement and opener.

That's understandable that they will make no sense to you. I'm still thinking on the best way to help the greatest number of people without having to read every individual log (as there is too many). Give me a few hours and I will decide on a way forward and get your questions answered.

So this is a rough draft of the main issues people have with the Demo rotation and what they should focus on looking for and improving. If the parses are really low for their item level and kill time then it's very likely that they are having trouble with the majority of these points.

Comments very welcome. Have I forgotten anything? Have I made an error? I am only an average player myself however, I have read a lot of logs in my time. Now should I explain how people can check for these issues or leave it as is?

Weak opener

Casting gaps: Poor positioning, moving too much, forgetting to cast, no Gateway or Circle use, not using Life tap/Demonwrath during unavoidable movement

Poor Life Tap use

Poor Doom uptime

Wasted Soul Shards

Casting Hand of Gul'dan on less than 4 Soul Shards

Missed Dreadstalker casts

Missed Doomguard casts

Missed Thal'kiel's Consumption (TKC) casts

Not enough pets out for TKC

Not using Doomguard for a TKC

Not using a pet and Legion Strike/Felstorms

Not combining summons when possible

Not using Demonic Empowerment (DE) after each summon (or double summon)

Low DE uptime

Missing enchants, gems, flask, potions x 2, food

Not syncing second potion with TKC (ideally do with two TKCs if using Prolonged Power), Doomguard, other cooldowns/buffs, Blood Lust/Heroism etc

Hi all, wanted to ask your opinion about my affliction log since I do pretty low dps for my ilvl, gotta say tho I barely play it, since I main destruction, but i want to play it to be ready for the next patch just in case.

From the log:
-I know i got a window of time taht i lost my syphon life.
-What I do is keep dots, UA once if i reach 5 stacks of coumpounding horror, and if i have +3-4 shards and 3 stacks of reap, i reap and cast them all.

ehm, did you forget to spec roaring blaze talent? your rotation belongs to this talent.
Also i would recommend to take teleport talent.
