    Whatever happened to Elitist Jerks?

Back in the day, they were pretty much the authority on game mechanics, with their guys being the first ones to spot bugs and knowing stuff about the game often better than Blizzard themselves. Anything that was a consensus on EJ you could pretty much treat in-game as gospel and look smart to others with, but lately it seems they just faded into obscurity.

    Maybe Ion Hazzikostas would know?

Forum became over-moderated, causing most valuable posters to slowly retract to other theorycrafting forums. Most casual players followed them.

The GM of Elitist Jerks (Ion Hazzikostas) went on to become.... the Assistant Game Director to WoW!

Blizzard hired a good number of them. Ion Hazzikostas is the former leader of the Elitist Jerks guild.

Oh yes, that forum. An accidental typo could get you banned. The name EJ could have been funny and sarcastic if it were a bunch of nice, outgoing, friendly, helpful people, but unfortunately they were a bunch of elitist jerks

On the other hand, the quality of theorycraft was quite good and they *usually* dealt with typical whine posts or flame wars. 'Course, at times, you could feel that certain posters were allowed quite a bit more freedom than others.

The game has lost it's appeal to anyone who enjoyed raiding competition. Those people just stopped playing. Now it's just a sad shell of what it used to be.

They are dead. Asteroid crush them.

Icy Veins seems to have replaced them, along with a few other sites. I find their site format a little easier to navigate.

The fact that a number of them now work at Blizzard, including their GM, should be ignored, right?

Ahem. Let's bring this all together.

The GM of Elitist Jerks, Ion Hazzikostas, was hired by Blizzard as a developer. Some others might have been too, I dunno. Either way, at that point he could no longer be the GM of a high profile guild that does that much theorycrafting, so the project was shuttered. Icy-Veins is the place to go for that sort of information now.

He wasn't hired as a programmer, he was hired as part of the encounter team.
He had built up a rep over the years prior to being hired for sussing out bugs in live raids and for min/maxing. If I am not mistaken, he was the guy who proved, with math, that C'thun, was broken and unbeatable. Could be wrong about that one, though.

Lol. Game designers are not programmers. Sheesh, so clueless.

You do known the difference between a game designer and a programmer don't you? Or do you just babble the first thing that comes to your mind?

You know you don't have to be a programmer to be a raid designer, right ? Do you even know what a programmer does ?
