Thunderfury Hunt READ THE OP WE FOUND IT!

    Old Thread:(http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...en-appearance)

We found it! Still some stuff which is to determine, but we have the entire thing done. Congrats to Ixzo completing the full questline - SPOILER images here http://imgur.com/a/MeheY and here http://imgur.com/a/hITPZ

    Latest (03/10/2016):
Ixzo managed to do the entire trip. Here's the recap of what's known and what's still on debate, but you will have all the needed ifnromations to do the entire thing by yourself.

Everything else not in this quote is to be considered as obsolete/wrong leads.

    - AK5 is the trigger for the left binding to drop from Dargrul in NL. Can drop at any difficulty and it's not a 100% chance.

    - AK6 is the trigger for the right binding from Ash'Golm. Again difficulty doesn't matter.

    - reputations are NOT needed. Confirmed multiple times for right binding and we have proof HERE(pic) and HERE(reps) for left binding.

    - you need either one of the bindings to start the quest, doesn't matter which one you get first.

    - Thrymjarys will give you the quest through a new dialogue option when you have one binding - remeber to spec Outlaw or the dialogue option won't appear. Ixzo himself just stood there a while, you can try to spam login/logoff and see if the trigger is forced.

    - Enjoy your quest chain and Thunderfury appearance! Thanks everyone for the support and help in the search.

NB: some people are experiencing bugs with the quest/dialogue with Thrymjarys - either choosing the "wrong option" or it disappearing randomly and having them stuck on that point. First make sure you're specced Outlaw but a fix for that is to simply queue/play one arena skirmish and once you're out the dialogue will appear again letting you complete the steps.

I’ll start this by stating that I’ve asked if I can start this thread with Coldkil, in an attempt to help the community and updating the front post regularly with any relevant information to help prevent re-covering old ground. I realise this opens us up to more trolls but the old thread is getting too jumbled.

The hunt so far has been pretty extensive, with lots of suggestions, some good leads but not a lot of positive results so please bare with me as I try to compile all the information and add anything new as it will be a long ongoing process.

    01. Facts
    • The item needed to unlock the hidden appearance is Emanation of the Winds
      http://www.wowhead.com/item=139536/e...winds#comments
    • Currently two players are confirmed to have the appearance, one of which is Cisky on the Archimonde server:
      http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...e/Cisky/simple

To add some clarity to this. Cisky received the appearance via a bug whilst checking his appearance tab as did the other Rogue. Cisky has no information relating to obtaining it, if you speak to him I'm sure he will say the same, however I would prefer if you leave him alone. I can only assume the other Rogue no longer has the appearance equipped as to relieve him from players spamming him, as such I will not name him.

    • The weapon is known to sheath on the back (https://embed.gyazo.com/e1432ee3d609...b853b858c6.jpg)
    • A blue post has neither confirmed or denied that the appearance is currently in-game, so I think we should keep looking (See below).

    02. Lore

    Lore (Vanilla)

    • Ragnaros used Sulfuras to slay Thunderaan, long before the events of Vanilla wow.
    • Unable to kill Thunderaan completely, Ragnaros split the essence of Thunderaan into two bindings giving one piece each to his lieutenants, Barron Geddon & Garr.
    • Players had a chance to receive these as two separate drops from their respective NPC’s, eventually leading to the creation of the legendary item: Thunderfury, Blessed Blade Of The Windseeker.

    Lore (Cataclysm)

    • Deathwing was in allegiance with Ragnaros and Al’akir, the latter being Thunderaan’s father.
    • It is believed after the events of Firelands, both Ragnaros & Al’akir are now deceased.
    • Deathwing is Wrathion’s father.

    Lore (Legion)

    • The shaman campaign in Legion involves the resurrection of Thunderaan to aid the Earthern Ring. Players are asked to seek out Thunderfury from a cave in Azsuna. A dwarf is seen dead on the ground, with the now broken blade beside him. Shamans restore the weapon via several quests and visits to Vortex Pinacle, ultimately leading to the resurrection of Thunderaan and the restoration of Skywall.
    • Thunderaan appears inside the Vortex Pinacle. Currently no Rogue is able to see him, however it is known that we will speak to him towards the end of the appearance acquisition.
    • Ash'golm was one of Ragnaros' lieutenants who burned a violent scar across the forests of Kalimdor before the Wardens finally managed to bind him. Unable to fully destroy Ash'golm, the Wardens locked him in a prison of ice. Ash’Golm is currently a dungeon boss inside the Vault Of Wardens.

    03. In-Game Data

Information from the game files relating to the hidden appearance including dialogue and quest items.

    Items
    Left Binding
    Right Binding
    Emanation of the Winds

    Dialogue - Unknown Source

    119150:
You possess a powerful binding from the Firelord's kin. These are no toys, $r. Bindings such as these threaten even the great elemental lords. They are unspeakably dangerous to possess.

Do you seek to imprison the Windlord with these bindings? Or do you have some other intent?
    119151:
I do not fear the Windlord. As long as I have this binding, he should fear me.
    119157:
I care little of your Bindings.

Thunderaan has returned through the efforts of the Earthen Ring. The new Windlord has risen, and it is he you should speak to about these wretched creations.

But even then, just one Binding is of little use even to the Windlord.
    119158:
Bold, $r. The elemental lords are not known for their generosity.

Still, should you recover both bindings, and ore powerful enough to turn them into something of use, then I will arrange your audience with Thunderaan the Windlord.

Use the time between then and now to consider the wisdom of this meeting. I shall understand if you do not return.
    119159:
What would the Windlord require to arrange an audience?
    119161:
I have no desire to imprison the Windlord. I wish to come to an arrangement with him.
    119162:
    Curious.

Thunderaan has returned through the efforts of the Earthen Ring. The new Windlord has risen, and it is he you should speak to about these wretched creations.

But even then, just one Binding is of little use even to the lord of Skywall.

    Dialogue - Thunderaan

    119397:
Mortal $r. You presume much to summon me.

    119398:
Ragnaros the Firelord once imprisoned me within bindings such as those you hold now.

    119399:
And greedy mortals not unlike you freed me only to strike and steal my weapon, and my power.

    119400:
But now that the Earthen Ring has seen to my return, I am inclined to show patience. Your errand may not be a foolish one after all.

    119401:
Give me the bindings that I might turn them against the Firelord and his minions, and I will reward you in kind.

    119402:
And so it is done, $r. Do not call upon me again.
    119403:
You possessed bindings such as those once before. An eternal prison from which you freed me only to jealously seek my power.

    119404:
I should strike you down for what you did to me. For what you stole from me.
A few of the 119397-119404 have a note of "PlayerConditionID = 42188" or"PlayerConditionID = 42187" - Judging by the dialogue this is a check against whether said player has Vanilla Thunderfury.

    04. Theories, tests & speculation

If I can ask if you have a theory and expect it to be taken seriously to put the effort in to testing it yourself and reporting your findings. The status of these is not set in stone, however outlandish theories and trolls will be ignored. Good quality screen shots and other hard evidence are great.

    Dungeons & Raids
    • As a possible drop from a Dungeon Boss, Raid Boss, World Boss or Treasure chest.
    • A Rogue from China had the Left Binding drop for him in Mythic Neltharions Lair (http://imgur.com/HIseaWw)

At this point it is either not currently available or one of the lowest drop rates in the game. Most if not all dungeon chests have been checked and the screenshot from an unconfirmed source in China appears to be fake.

    Artifact Knowledge
    • Some players suspect the appearance is unobtainable until a certain artifact knowledge level.

Testing Involvement/Interaction of NPCs including use of bribe, pick-pocket & detection:

    • Highlord Dimitrian (Silithus)
    • Master Elemental Shaper Krixix (Black Wing Lair)
    • Wrathion
    • Ebyssian Ebonhorn
    • Garr
    • Barron Geddon
    • Ash’Golm
    • Firelands NPC
    • Molten Front NPC
    • Vortex Pinacle NPC
    • Eye Of Azshara NPC

There are no new known interactions as of 7.0.3 - if you have any specific suggestions regarding NPC's please let us know your findings

    Wrathion
    • Players have suggested that some of the data-mined text dialogue sounds like Wrathion.
    • Currently no one is able to locate Wrathion in-game, in old known locations or otherwise.
    • Throughout MoP & WoD, Wrathion was preparing for a theoretical invasion but whilst trying to prevent it he indirectly caused it to happen.
    • Did he create bindings to force the elemental lords to fight for Azeroth?
    • He has a history with Rogues.
    • He was previously added to Legion as part of a quest in Highmountain however this was removed in early beta.

    Eye Of Azshara
    • As EoA was added to the open world and is not exclusively a dungeon there have been some suggestions involving this location.

    Vault Of Wardens & Ash’Golm
    • One of the bosses in VoW is Ash’Golm a known associate of Ragnaros.
    • Some of the datamined dialogue suggests we get a binding from “the firelord’s kin” so there may be a connection here.
    • VoW is known to have hidden rooms.

    Screenshots

A world quest around Neltharions Lair tasks players with gathering some unrefined elementium and killing two NPCs. Both target NPCs have the title of <Keeper of the Tablets>, and have several Ancient Neltharion Tablets laying around near them. For most people, they are unreadable due to being in Draconic, language of the dragons - however players who opened the gates of AQ in vanilla were able to learn and retain the ability to understand Draconic. This was re-introduced due to a bug during the launch of patch 3.0.2 - which is how the image source claims they had the ability to read it.

Some have stated that this tablet may refer to the creation of Deathwing's Armor plating

    05. False Theories

Almost all of these theories have been disproved or considered no longer relevant after the discovery of the first binding, even in consideration to finding the second binding.

    Old Content
    • It has been stated that the quest chain will not start by investigating old content first. As of the Ret Paladin hidden appearance acquisition discovery this is no longer considered true.

    World Quests
    • Neltharion's Lair - You are sent to recover an artifact from a hidden room, there is some dialogue exchanged with Spiritwalker Ebonhorn and a Molten Giant you can kill, but other than this it appears to be a red herring.

    Shaman Campaign
    • The cave with the dead adventurer found with the broken Thunderfury.
    • The dead dwarf is a character called Wray, the same name/appearance as the player who go world first Thunderfury. Some game data suggests that he is also found elsewhere but this is not confirmed.

Currently the shaman campaign is not shown to have any cross-overs other than both dealing with Thunderaan.

    Hidden Locations
    • In general there are many hidden caves and secret spots around the Broken Isles but no concrete leads at the moment.

    The Vault
    • Some clues to the Subtlety hidden artifact appearance lie within the vault, such as the lever and one of the pictures. Investigate the other pictures and items lying around the vault for any leads and let us know your findings.

So here is my theory. I think we will end up needing a certain AK level to trigger events.

But! Someone in the other thread found some tablets written in draconic in highmountain that indicate that the drogbar have been working on creating elementium bindings (like those used to imprison thunderaan and by the Twilights Hammer during the events of Cata).

Quote Originally Posted by lonewolph View Post

Someone translated them from Draconic somehow and they say the following. I don't think they realize it, but it's an obvious reference to the creation of the bindings. However I can't find anything relevant anywhere else. They are Ancient Neltharion Tablets. I couldn't find any NPC named Izgarogg. Unfortunately i cant link the post because I just made this account, but do a search for ancient neltharion tablet draconic

know that I, izgarogg, last of the scales
    has transcribed this knowledge as
dictated by my lord, Neltharion, Earth Warder of Azeroth

This Tablet marks our fiftieth attempt at merging the elements
into a binding ore. My lord believes this shall be the ultimate
tool in his rise to power, but we may be many years, if not ages
away from discovering a stable solution.

below is the recipe of our search to remove impurities. it has proven
powerful but will need additional refinement
Now My theory is that once we meet the requirements/trigger, that a completed binding will drop from Dargrul. When we get one elementium binding, the quest opens up, we talk to mystery person and he says we should find some powerful ore and another binding.

It's my belief that our search for a second binding will take us to Mr. Shackles for advice and he will point us either towards the Wrath of Azshara or Ash'Golm.

The Wrath of Azshara being a bound elemental, and Ash'Golm being one of Ragnaro's lieutenants from the war of ancients.

My opinion is that it's less likely to be Ash'Golm due to how long he's been locked up, and the more recently created bindings - Ragnaros only created two halve of Thunderaan's prison way back in the day, and we know where those are/were, Ash'Golm hasn't had any opportunities to obtain one of the new bindings, from Ragnaros or anyone else.

Wrath of Azshara though, is a newly bound/summoned elemental brought forth by Azshara during the events of Azsuna.

Is there a link or a quote to the tablets or some sort of screenshot please?

I assume you mean like an Artifact Power benchmark?

Jumping for a preemptive warning: we have a compendium, read before asking questions which are already covered.

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...th-translation

The link shows out-of-context screenshots of the tablet text. I need to find these for actual screenshots.

And while the text does seem to refer to elementium, it refers to it as a "binding ore". It's entirely possible it could be a red herring, but you have to keep in mind the bindings we are looking for are new creations that we ultimately bring to the attention of the new windlord, and in return are granted the item for the hidden appearance.

The assumption about an Artifact Knowledge requirement comes from the corrupted ashbringer questline requiring 10+ AK to progress.

The trigger/requirements for us are still the biggest mystery.

Looking into it, Draconic, language of the dragons could be learned during a bug upon the realease of 3.0.2 or during the original AQ gate opening.

When patch 3.0.2 was released, the gates of Ahn'Qiraj were briefly closed due to a bug that reset the gates on each server, and gave all characters of the same Race and Class as the original opener the ability to speak Draconic. All mobs spawned during the event were respawned as well. The supplies did not need to be gathered, and if the quest chain was done previously one would need to simply turn it in and re-open the gates, giving them the mount and Scarab Lord title.
It's plausable so I will add it.

    Thanks

While this might be true, keep in mind that the draconic tablets might also refer to the Prot Warr Artifact (http://www.wowhead.com/item=139580/b...e-worldbreaker)

Just one thing. Why would Devs put a so called hint for rouges in a tablet which we do not meant to read. I meant that whole tablet theory is based on bug. Can mages read drakonic via dalaraan brilliance? If so it might make sense. If no that would be my sole reason to discard that theory that it has to do anything with any hidden appearance!
War is deception, a game played best from the shadows!

Why not? Its a lore item.

The stuff like thunderfury, ashbringer, etc is supposed to be heavily lore related and more complicated than the easier ones with less history.

Its a plausible bread crumb, think about what paladins have to go through.

The idea that we find one of the elementium bindings that the drogbar have successfuly created for their master(deathwing/neltharion) fits with the involvement of elementium used in the original quest. The reference to "binding ore" supports the theory.

Its not based on a bug, there was mention that rogues learned draconic some other way.

I need to confirm if we can learn draconic somehow. Part of the puzzle.

There are also other hints, the twilights hammer is active there and elementium is being processed in high mountain. Remember that it was a key part in the original tf qst

Pretty sure the tablets refer to the creation of Deathwing's armor which basically saved him from being torn apart, nothing to do with bindings.

The same reason they would hide hints for Ashbringer in a fishing booklet classed as junk.

It's clear some things this expansion are meant to be cryptic, like they were in Vanilla. A lot of players forget that the map back in vanilla had nothing on it, you didn't have quest points or numbers or markers. Players had to come together to solve problems when it came to the end game items. Blizzard has already said stuff like this has been added to recreate that community effort.

Too add clarity players involved in the original AQ gates were able to learn Draconic, it's not entirely from a "bug" but that is how the source of the screenshot came to learn Draconic. For all intents and purposes there isn't a lot of information in the tablet so I will add some clarity and move it to a different section.

Did the drogbar create his armor? These tablets seem to be something more recent.

To add to this, the conversation/ text we have was fully meant to be datamined so that we have hints to go on. They could easily have hidden it.

Its meant to be a community effort, which would include outside resources such as datamining, and for the paladins, a 10 year old fanfic thread.

They're ANCIENT tablets, and he's being referred to as Neltharion so I would place them in the War of the Ancients. That's when he created the dragon soul and was being torn apart by its powers. In the novel trilogy goblins created his armor, but that was released in 2004.

Actually now that I read it again, it might be about the forging of the Dragon Soul

Ancient is relative. There is no time associated with the tablets except "ancient" and the tablets dont need to be recent, or even the bindings, just recently found, which is a fine line.

They also say it could be "years, ages" before a stable recipe is found....

And the drogbar still serve neltharion.

Could they have toiled for ages

Actually, the bindings have to be "recent", since it's clearly stated on them "intended for Thunderaan the WINDLORD", not Windseeker as he was known back then.

Which to me quite clearly points out to the fact that we're not looking for some ancient enemy of Thunderaan, but a current one. Which to me rules out the fire elem guy form VotW.

It's literally in the reason why this thread was redone :/
