Comparing a store build to MMO narwhal

im thinkin about upgrading my PC and i know basically nothing about doing so. I generally just go into a store and pick out a pc.

I realized mmo-c has its own PC section with its own preferred build so i'd like to see how a brick and mortar PC holds up against MMO's mid/top range PC

the parts that come with the brick and mortar PC are

    Kingston DDR4 2133 8GB (2x4GB) $89
    Kingston DDR4 2133 8GB (2x4GB) $89
    Seagate 1TB SATA3 64MB 7200 RPM $79
    Intel I5-6600 LGA1151 HS&FAN $259
    Windows 10 PRO 64 BIT $159
    ASUS Z170-K LGA1151 $189
    EVGA GTX1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX $499
    Coolermaster HAF912 ATX BK $89

for a total price of $1452

i have basically compared the differences but again I dont know much, so I'm looking for your opinions of this build vs the narwhal.

    thanks

p.s. i suppose if youre feeling perky, how does this compare to the unicorn build?

    thanks

Don't look at the build of the month. It's an ok general idea I guess, but you can almost always put something better together. For example, and this is why we avoid brick and mortar stores, here is a build with prett much the same specs as above:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($235.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG C7 40.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($26.99 @ Newegg)
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($82.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($82.99 @ Best Buy)
    Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($94.89 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($48.89 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Windforce OC Video Card ($379.99 @ B&H)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg)

Only thing it is missing is a copy of Windows which you can pick up a cheap key from kinguin or g2a. It's about $400 less than the pre-built.

PC Part Picker isn't a retail site, but it tells you where you can buy the parts cheapest and has quite good compatibility filters.

Slightly OT but I don't really understand whom the builds of the month are aimed for most of the time to be honest.
