Republicans Now Control Record Number of State Legislative Chambers

Just so you all know its not all about Hillary won more "votes" than Trump (which means zip its not how we elect a president). the Media again is missing the Big picture.

Republicans added to their historic 2014 gains in the nation’s state legislatures with the addition of five state House chambers and two state Senate chambers in last week’s election, while Democratic control was reduced to levels not seen since the Civil War.

Republicans are now in control of a record 67 (68 percent) of the 98 partisan state legislative chambers in the nation, more than twice the number (31) in which Democrats have a majority, according to the bipartisan National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

“That’s more than at any other time in the history of the Republican Party,” according to NCSL. “They also hold more total seats, well over 4,100 of the 7,383, than they have since 1920.”

Next year, the GOP will control both legislative chambers in 32 states - an all-time high, according to NCSL - while Democrats will have total control of just 13 state legislatures.

In 24 of the 32 states with Republican-controlled legislatures, voters have also elected Republican governors. In contrast, Democrats have a “political trifecta” in just six states.

ince 2009, when President Obama took office, his party has lost a total of 919 seats in state legislatures nationwide, according to NCSL data.

In 2009, Democrats had total control of 27 state legislatures, and held a majority in at least one chamber in eight more states where power was divided. In contrast, Republicans controlled just 14 state legislatures.

During Obama’s first year in office, Democrats held 1,024 of the 1,971 total state Senate seats in the nation, compared to 889 in Republican hands. They also held 3,058 of the total 5,411 state House seats, compared to 2,334 for Republicans.

In addition, there were 28 Democratic governors, compared to 22 Republican governors.

Great, so if any shit hits the fan in the next 4 years, they won't have anyone but themselves to blame.

    Enjoy!

Perhaps gerrymandering should be the big picture then.

It's a polite way of saying cheating but no one is really speaking out against it since both democrats and republicans benefits from it.

Maybe, But in terms of Hillary's voters, she got a ton of votes in specific cities. Even if you win 100% of the vote in Chicago, San Fran, LA and NYC and every single person eligible to vote votes for a specific party there, it doesn't change who is the Governor of Montana or Wyoming.

On MMO-C we learn that Anti-Fascism is locking arms with corporations, the State Department and agreeing with the CIA, But opposing the CIA and corporate America, and thinking Jews have a right to buy land and can expect tenants to pay rent THAT is ultra-Fash Nazism. Bellingcat is an MI6/CIA cut out. Clyburn Truther.

While I do not have data from all state legislature elections, for the House of Representatives, the Republicans won the popular vote again.

Nonsense. They blamed Obama for things that happened before he was in office, they clearly can blame him for things that happen after he leaves. I can't wait to hear how he made it so trickle down economics still doesn't work.

There is no reason to think shit is going to hit the fan as far as the economy in the next 4 years. If Republicans do good other parties could still put up serious candidates who argue based on policy positions. As opposed to ad hominem and saying citizens are deplorable racist sexists, which is not a real argument.

That was sort of the main selling point.

Gerrymandering is a pretty big part of it. As the data shows us, the majority of votes each year are typically for democratic candidates, yet due to gerrymandering, they get diluted from anywhere between 5-15% on average. Republicans have dominated the gerrymandering game recently, which is why a lot of states have had pushes to move to independent redistricting committees. Of course, even an "independent" committee is going to lean one way or another until a computer is doing the job, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

But further, this is the real reason Republicans push for local government and pushing more things "back to the states." It has nothing to do with freedom, or corruption (well, it does, but in the opposite direction that they claim), or whatever else. Local legislation is far, far easier to control than national. If the federal government tries to ban abortion, the entire country will be up in arms. If your state tries to ban abortion, even if every non-legislative person in the state sides with abortion, it will likely pass because most people aren't even aware it's happening, or if they are, there aren't enough to stop it from happening.

Only focusing on the popular vote is not a good strategy. The point of the election process is to also care about states and districts, not just body count in big coastal cities.

This is the Trump supporter argument that makes my eyes start to twitch.

Oh, good, more states for California and New York to subsidize.
