Bob Dylan not coming to Stockholm to pick up 2016 Nobel Prize for literature

C'mon, if they give you the Noble Prize you go pick it up. The prize is $900,000 or so.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- The Swedish Academy says Bob Dylan is not coming to Stockholm to pick up his 2016 Nobel Prize for literature at the Dec. 10 prize ceremony.

Bob Dylan finally breaks his silence on Nobel Prize honor

The Academy says Dylan told them that “he wishes he could receive the prize personally, but other commitments make it unfortunately impossible.”

Bob Dylan “arrogant” for Nobel silence, academy member says

The 75-year-old American singer-songwriter was awarded the prize on Oct. 13 “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

Hah, what is truly arrogant is expecting everyone to drop everything for an award.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Musicians like being cool and edgy.

Not caring about receiving a major award is cool and edgy.

What an asshole. Those morons gave the literature award to musician and he spit on them.

Good, maybe we can stop with the newfound practice of giving awards to people outside of the box just to be edgy or Nobel Prizes that are more about a political statement than an award.

They should just take it back and give it to someone else.

No such thing as an implied favor. The only asshole(s) here are those that expect someone to drop everything to run and receive some award they never asked for.

Can't really blame him, Stockholm is probably going to be freezing in mid-December.

It's the Nobel Prize - there is literally no higher award. And it's the first time a musician has ever won it. The arrogance is not going.

Really? Drop everything? Because scheduling a trip four months out to receive the highest award in the world is such a hassle, right?

The importance of the Nobel is relative. Personally, I think it's stupid and worthless. Dylan is like 75 and probably has his life scheduled for a year in advance. He has no obligation to cancel events to make time for something he had no say in. /shrug
