Yes of course. A $50Bn investment was worked out over lunch between Trump and a CEO. It really wasn't planned many months in advance. It really wasn't planned by finance guy's looking at ROI's, etc, either. It was worked out over lunch in a single hour.

Honestly no, the endgame will clearly be the Sprint/T-mobile merger. When was the last time a telecom merger ended successfully to the benefit of the consumer? All this does is decrease competition which encourages a high price floor and they can put less capital to customer service (ie Time-Warner, Comcast, At&t, ect).

This was killed in 2014 because it was deemed to be too harmful to the consumer.

As to the news itself, it is good. The people directly responsible claim they were especially motivated by Trump's victory and their meetings with him. He is also some-what popular in Japan because of his stance on America's global defense of allied nations - such as Japan - and his thinking that they should be "allowed" to defend themselves. Instead of apologizing for being wrong about the entire birther issue, he tried to take credit for Obama releasing his birth certificate... which Obama had already done.
