Pet Battles PvE: Is Anub OP and/or just old strong pet?

Now, I ocassionally play some PvE pet battles, Timeless Isle and world quests. Anubisath Idol appears to be the most common pet (along with selected few other pets, Mechanical Pandarean Dragonling, Chrominius, and so on).

My question is, are the pets really so strong, or it is only because people have been using those since the beginning but new pets are comparable or even stronger?

damage reduction (sandstorm/stoneskin and deflection) plus self-healing (humanoid) makes it super strong against small hitters (most of those super fast pets)

Howlbomb was nerfed with 7.0 and Chrominius isn't a must-have anymore

Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling is what should be a squishy pet because of the S/S breed but his specie and Decoy allows it to survive strong hits and demolish magic pets (still takes at least 3 hits no matter what)

Emerald Proto-Whelp, Iron Starlette, Nexus Whelpling and Nether Faerie Dragon are all pets you should level up at some point. Also Xu-Fu if you want to powerlevel against wild pets (P/P breed and can go on for ages with no damage loos thanks to Prowl+Feed)

edit: After those you can focus on pets for specific fights like Zandalari/Ikk, Chi-Chi, Death Talon Whelpguard (can solo Ashlei with 2 carry pets), Unborn Valkyr and many others :P
