    How does endgame work?

I've been a raider in WoW for the past 11 years, but I really enjoy FF14 from time to time, the trials in particular are really cool. But how does endgame work? Is it like WoW where you have to spend a couple of hours to progress? I rather enjoy that aspect of WoWs raiding, working hard as a team towards a common goal. How much time would you spend in a raid on average?

It's like most MMORPGs but with the caveat that you have to progress through the Main Story Quest. There are 'raids' you can unlock as part of the main quest which tend to be pretty easy, around MoP LFR levels, and harder modes unlockable through side quests that really make you work for your win provided you do them at-level. There's also stuff like Alexander, Binding Coil of Bahamut, and Proto-Ultima where you have big raid groups doing hard content, but those are separate from the main story quests so players who don't care about raiding don't get stonewalled.

The raids themselves function pretty similarly to WoW's. You've got your tanks, healers, buffs, debuffs, and most boss mechanics involve getting out of blast zones before you blow up. The combat itself feels a little slower since many abilities are on a 2.5-second global cooldown, but I personally think it's done that way to give you time to react since even on lower difficulties, boss and mob telegraphs hit harder pound for pound than they do outside Heroic/Mythic raids on WoW. Around level 40+ you also get a large number of skills not on the GCD, making your performance a matter of knowing when to do your GCD chain and when to hit what off-the-cooldown key (for example, the Bard skill Sidewinder works best after you've put both your main DoT spells on it, since it gets extra damage for having one or both up, but you also want to make sure your Steady Shot buff is up for extra damage and Wanderer's Minuet is up for 30% extra damage).

True end game is a combination of housing, fishing, and glamour.

Not enough time in the week to do all 3.
And you could have it all,
    my Empire of Dirt.
    I will let you down,
    I will make you Hurt.

It is borderline impossible to get BiS gear for multiple specs though, unless you're one of the top teams clearing it quickly. Lots of your BiS gear is from a vendor with limited tokens weekly, and upgrade items are also limited weekly.

With that said, this game has a lot of content you can find enjoyable, but a vast majority of it isnt for a big amount of players. Gathering mats, crafting, toying with your house, playing the golden saucer (casino, minigames, bladibla place). Glamour is Tmog, quite a substantial part of it is old raids and/or crafting rare stuff cos nobody does it anymore.

A new addition is palce of the dead or something, where you play a char in a (my opinion)very boring series of tunnels/levels and kill the mobs, avoid traps, gather equipment and whatnot. Its a progression curve on the side of the main game itself. Some did recieve it quite well though

Youve got farming mounts and all that shit too.

And probably the worst part of the game is farming your anima weapons, if that's your thing. Íts always a good weapon for a bit, and it gets beaten by current raid tier, but between raid tiers the anima weapon is buffed with a new farm step, and you do that to get an even better wepaon than raid weapon, and rinse repeat the circle. Anima grind is mad though, be warned, its not for the weak. Basically the most grindy thing you've ever done in wow, multiply that by 10, and then you've got 5% of what anima weapons require.

Raid tiers rotate. Hardcore raid (8man) and LFR sorta raid 24man. Each patch roughly 3months has them rotating. You get hard raid, 3months later a LFR raid, 3 months later part2 of hard raid, etc. Hard raid is usually 4 bosses per cycle. LFR is random, but usually 4? I haven't played FF14 for a while now, memory isnt fresh how many bosses there are in the LFR wings. Check it out, the newest wing is Dun Scaith, one before was Weeping City of Mhach and first which in my opinion was prettiest is The Void Ark

I know lots of people didn't like POTD but I absolutely loved it just because of the last boss and music. Its also something I like doing when I get bored of running ARF multiple times, I'll run through some POTD floors and just auto pilot, bonus points if the floor music is a recycled theme I love a lot (like the HM Wanderers Palace). I love leveling classes in there too because its relatively fast and I get to play with skills I don't have yet.

Lmao...no. The Insane title makes an anima weapon look like child's play in comparison. Also trying to get all the mounts from the Argent Tournament back in the day...have fun doing daily quests for 3-4 months straight. Not to mention the anima weapon quests have been progressively nerfed as Heavensward continued on.

Yeah. I did so much grinding in BC and WoTLK plus I play real grind fests like Ragnarok Online. I'm not going to try arguing anima weapon isn't a grind but its relatively tame compared to stuff in other games.

-What job do you like? get gear for that job
    -Chocobo racing
    -Triple Triad
    -Lords of Verminion
    -Palace of the dead
    -pvp
    -raids
    -trials
    -treasure maps
    -diadem
    -wondrous tails journal
Basically just pick and choose really. You want to chase the current 270ilvl gear? do anything that rewards tomestones, buy gear and do alliance raids to supplement and upgrade tomestone gear. Dont want to? go rear chocobos to race or do gardening and cross breed species and such.

Honestly you do what you want really.

Is Triple Triad in this game decent? I was obsessed with it in FF8 and to a lesser exent Tetra Master in 9.

It IS Triple Triad from 8 exactly. down to the music and some folks in some areas having supremely bullshit rules. They had to patch out some impossible combinations a while back but theres tons of cards to collect, a duty finder for it, tournaments and its also a small source of golden saucer coins you can use for chocobo racing or buying mounts, pets, hair designs, dances and glamour sets like casino bunny or setzers gambler outfit.

I've been thinking of returning to the game and this made the choice a little easier.

Things I wish FF14 would steal from WoW:

    1) More robust Anima/Relic Weapon itemization/effects. Artifact weapons may be grindy, but at least they are interesting.
    2) Combat smoothness. If FF14 was as smooth and responsive as WoW that'd go a LONG way.
    3) Let me please talk to people on my mount. You made a QoL change that it auto-dismounts you, you could have taken it a step further and had it auto-remount after text was done or just let players do it on their mount.
    4) A little more gameplay customization would be very welcomed. It'd be nice if I could differentiate myself from other DRG's in some fashion other than glamour.

There are of course several things WoW should steal from FF14, but I merely wanted to draw attention to your statement that it's "everything you want WoW to be".

The RNG is very real in this game too. I've seen people who cleared entire raids through an expansion never get their weapon. Thankfully this never happened to me, but the 2 other people in my static couldn't say the same. I know they use a token system now, and I think I remember seeing the weapons purchasable, someone please confirm this for me.

Yep. The tokens for the last floor on each of the tiers in Alexander gives you that option. 8 tokens gets you a chest piece or a weapon if for some reason you don't see a drop in 2 months.

RNG can be cruel, but at least this evens it out a bit.

I can get behind most of this. But when i returned to wow for legion, I started to appreciate the no mount while talking thing. It helps cut down on people crowding npcs while mounted. Trying to get to the POTD npc is hard enough during prime time as it is.

If you hold down X all players become non-interactionable (is that a word?) and targetting NPCs or items is a lot easier.
