In the sleeping phase, if you already have the buff from walking over one, what happens if you walk over another? nothing or you do you waste them?

You can't pick up a second orb.

As Mehman said you can't pick up a second orb, so everyone should just be running through the pile of purple until they see they have a debuff. You don't have to worry about soaking up extra since that's not possible.
