And on the other hand, it's not even so much about what other people force you to do.

I think it depends on what you play; if you like the top tier heroes, they'll get banned, or someone else picks them. So say, you liked Rag, Malfu and Varian a couple of months ago, you couldn't really rely on just those 3 because you couldn't consistently play any of them when you're not the 1st or 2nd pick. If you like the more exotic heroes like Chromie, Nova or Hammer, it's hard to win if you don't know when (not) to pick them. If you like range DDs you might get away with just 3 because there is so much choice, and few hard counters. But then, I'd say it's pretty selfish to not have at least one tank OR healer in your repertoire. These are a lot of constraints. So 5, yes maybe - 3 to 4... too few.

At least that is my experience, I might just be bad with everything ;-)
Could you name your 5 best heroes at the moment? Most of the times there is always atleast 1 that almost always works. I coached a rl friend from silver to I think platinum 3 by just playing a few QM's with him while he played his top 7 (he said he had 7 comfort picks) and finding out he was way better with Gul'dan, Valla, Kerrigan and Li Li than he is with any other hero in the roster. This is a good starting point since Valla and Gul'dan are almost always one of the best choice and with Li Li you have a good 2nd support which is quite strong at the moment. From here on he always started a Hero League match with saying he was only really good with those 4 so it would help if someone else could tank/heal because he was just not good at it and it will cost them the game. Abit dramatic, but it did help. He was able to play his 4 best heroes in 89% of his games since then with a win percentage of 68% and went from silver 4 to platinum 3.

I'd gladly take a longer queue time for that shit not to happen. I'm alt-tabbed anyhow why I wait.

It doesn't happen often but on occasion I even get 5 randoms vs 5 man team. Total BS.
I can confirm that it is better when you play 4 with 1 random. Not saying this to mock you, just seems a bit too obvious that going solo makes ones life a living hell.

The heroes I am most comfortable with are Nova, Li Li, Morales, Jaina and Li Ming plus maybe Sylvanas, Valla and Tyrande. Lately I'm trying Nazeebo, and he seems like a great allrounder. Maybe he'll be my main specialist in the future, but I have never picked him in ranked before.

I feel pretty comfortable with supports, aside BW, Kharazim and Lucio, so I feel obliged to pick what the group wants (which might be a mistake). I feel like a passenger, not having much impact if the group doesn't work together. You can't do anything by yourself, and if the group is suiciding, you can't do anything. It just feels very limiting. It feels like I should rather play tank, and I quite like ETC, but I find it too stressful.

Nova is the hero with by far the most games (463). I have an above 50% winrate, but don't pick her in ranked at all, because I just don't like to get flamed. Still, I feel very comfortable, even against very bad comps I can make something happen most of the time.

Li Li was my first "main" hero, and I got quite far. At some point I felt like hitting a wall with her being a tad too weak, but what I like about her (in contrast to other healers) is that you can annoy people, get away with quite a lot and compensate a bit for a shitty front line; I love the blinds and the multiple ways you can spec her while still being a "full healer". When I pick her, people always say "omg why not pick Malfu or Rehgar", but I just have less success with them, make mistakes. With Rehgar I am constantly OOM if I'm not playing super passively, and Malfurion seems too slow if your group is suicidal and shit constantly hits the fan. This is what I mean; I pick Li Li, I get blamed for a comfort pick ("lol who doesn't play Malfurion these days noob"). I think I understand Malfurion's strength in a good group, but below platinum it doesn't make sense to me.

Morales is great with a decent front line, love her too, but currently with Diablo and all the dive I feel too vulnerable. Tyrande for me is like Valla, there are the days you can hit your owls, moonfires and auto attacks, but I have no idea why I sometimes lose everything. Still I like both, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong in ranked with them. QM yes, ranked catastrophe.

Sylvanas... I absolute love her, feel very comfortable with her, but for half a year or so it's an absolute nightmare, and I don't know why. I can't seem to get any push done, I feel hard countered all the time. Whenever I'm laning, people tell me to join team fights, even before level 10. So I basically only pick her on the rare occasions when there's a map with a big guy objective and I'm not against a million DPS. Still, the results are average at best.

Range DDs work best, so I like Jaina, Ming and all, but whenever I am in a draft, when I'm not supporting, nobody is. Maybe that's my problem, not stating enough what I want to play? I just can't seem to get any reaction from people most of the time, so I give in.

That is my ameteurish analysis, and I appreciate every insight.

Li Li and Tyrande are extremely strong second supports, but I would never pick them as solo support in hero league due to the limitations of the heroes. Nazeebo is still in my opinion one of the best carries, but you really need him on a 3 lane map due to the stack nerf and you have to make sure you can be there for every wave on two lanes.

Nova is at the moment in quite a bad spot, but every stealthie except Zeratul is pretty bad for ranked at the moment. People can't play against them in QM so Blizzard keeps nerfing them. The only reason Zeratul stays strong is because his skill floor and ceiling are both pretty high, so in QM people get less annoyed by him.

The problem with Sylvanas is that most players push a lane with her solo. You are meant to enable the others to push by shutting down minions, towers and forts while they are safe to siege and when you do this alone you will be too slow and get caught by the enemy most of the time. Another thing most people forget is that as Sylvanas you are very strong in a teamfight due to the silence heroic and the amount of damage she can do. Most of the times I top hero damage when I play Sylvanas and not siege because of this.

Don't let your team bully you into a hero/role that you don't feel comfortable with or that will make you the reason that you will lose.

Thanks a lot. And sorry for the long quote, I just try to be specific.

Stealthies... I've noticed; tried to master Valeera as she's the only melee that seems fun to me, but every comp seems to have a scouting drone. Plus, Tassadar got popular. I'd love to play Zeratul, but I am just too slow. Seems like I should stick to the ranges.

Basically you confirm that I'm missing something with Sylvanas, I'll probably have to work this one out as mechanically I feel like I should be good with her.

Thanks again for your time, appreciated.

ya..... winning by myself is a hassle and a half. however when i play with friends my win % goes up considerably.

probably #1 pet peeve about this game, in league I can carry games enough to not need my friends. In HotS it feels like I cant win without my friends almost.

Maybe one follow-up question: When would you pick Li Li or Tyrande (= who is the other support), and how would you spec?

When I am Li Li as a second support, like with a Malfurion or Morales, I'd spec for the dragon ult, but this always seems like a compromise to me. Am I wrong?
As for Tyrande - I never liked Starfall. I feel like she can heal a ton, but her early game seems tricky. I like the owl build.

What would be your main support hero if you're forced into it?

Hmmm most of the times I play a 2nd support when I feel that I either need to compensate for burst healing or the other way around when I feel that we lack sustain heal and that our healer will fall behind. So for example when I am playing with a Brightwing or a Lucio (Malf can also be quite slow but most of the times you can get away with this) and the enemy has heroes like Greymane, Jaina, Zeratul and Li Ming we will probably lack the burst healing needed so I would go with either Uther/Tyrande to compensate the healing with stuns, healing bursts and utility or Li Li when the opponent uses Greymane and some other strong AAs. When I am queued up with a Kharazim, Auriel or an off-healer and the enemy has a ton of sustain dps I would also play a 2nd support. In this case I would either play Lucio or Brightwing when I am really lacking healing or if we could get away with just some small heals to compensate the sustain I would go for Shockadin Uther, full dps Li Li or owl spec Tyrande.

For Li Li I almost always go for: Gale Force, Mass Vortex, Cleanse, Water Dragon, Hindering Winds, Serpent Sidekick and Storm Shield.
For Tyrande I also have a go to build: Empower, Pierce, Lunar Blaze, Shadowstalk (altough Starfall is better), Overflowing Light, Ranger and Rewind/Storm Shield.
Keep in mind that currently on the PTR Li Li is getting a nerf and Tyrande is losing owl spec.

Main support will probably be cheesy Lucio at the moment due to the insane amount of sustain, displacement and godly ult. Second is either Brightwing or Malf.

Another update, the loss train still goes on 1 month ago i was almost hitting gold rank, and now im soon at bronze 4 rank... i have no idea whats going on...

I'm not even a new player... i got soon 2000 played games and only missing 8 hero for the full collection...and this kind of huge loss streak never happened to me...

I was Diamond 5 last week. I'm constantly in the zone around demotion to Platinum 4 currently. You are not alone.

Last night I got 8 lost games in a row in QUICKMATCH.

I must have really pissed in the cheerios of the MMR system.

Usually a 3 loss streak is the worst. Last night was just. Yea...

  15. #35
Luckily for me, its actually gotten better now. Its about 50/50 again.
    Hallelujah!

  16. #36
Shit happens, sadly for me its never 50/50 its always either 90% wins, or 90% losses never in between

I thought i take a break before doing again hero league then i did my 10 placement match which actually went pretty good 7 win 3 loss and i got placed to almost gold rank, but then its started the same thing like before... someone mentioned take a break if 2-3 loss happens what i did, but when i came back its just continued.
Its always the same story, someone leave, illidan 15 death etc etc...

and i am 3 loss to get to bronze rank ... i am not even a new player with 2100 played games, and i like to play hero league to see something progressing, but thats just pain to play...

I'm on a bit of a break myself. I decided I should spend this lull between hero releases to recharge my batteries and hopefully return stronger than ever in a week and a half when Stukov releases. Ranked has been a bit of a clown fiesta since 2.0. Allow yourself a break. It'll do wonders for your mood when you return to the game.

Well looking at your hero choices , they aren't very good/optimal either.
Ragnaros is hardly played by anyone after nerfs and for good reasons - he's not in a good state right now.

Sylvanas is a win more hero - but requires you to win said map/objective first -teamfight wise she's not very good / impactful.

Li Li is mediocre as support - best current supports are Uther / Rehgar / BW maybe on big map and if you dont need cleanse: Kharazim / Malf / Auriel.

Nazeebo on Hanamura is bad - he's a late game hero - something that doesnt happen much in Hanamura where my games usually last till 17/18 and even then, you wont get 175 stacks mostly even if you reach 20 because its a 2lane map.

Valeera is decent I think but if you wanna play a ganker/stealther - learn Zeratul - he's more versatile - early game less burst or lockdown compared to Valeera but VP is better utiilty / ult than whatever Valeera runs.
