Things have gotten a bit off-topic recently, please keep discussion on Anthem. If you want to discuss TD1/2 or other games please do so in other threads. Thanks.

A lead designer dying unexpectedly in a AAA studio should have a relatively minor impact, not cause you to tear your game into piece and just start off again from scratch trying to design a basic gameplay loop.
That's not entirely accurate. Take a look at something like Fallout76. Even though it's technically Bethesda, all indications are that it was some kind of B-team, or even C-team working on it. It very clearly wasn't Bethesda's best people.

I strongly suspect something similar happened with Anthem. It's hard to look at the state of the game and NOT know that something happened to cut things short. Either key members got re-assigned, or development paused entirely somewhere along the way. You can see the environmental artists did an AMAZING job. Anthem's open world is a work of art. But the gameplay and game-mechanic guys clearly are either super-noobs, or just incompetent.

Even with a company as massive as Blizzard, you can see the same effect in Battle for Azeroth, the most recent expansion. The art team knocked it out of the park, but the gameplay and content of WoW's open world right now is GAAAAAARBAGE. It's nearly as flat and boring as Anthem's open world.

I'll be REALLY interested to see what actually happened, if at some point in the future we get an interview with key Bioware members.

I've had it happen once or twice since the initial fix, never continues after a restart though.

No need to let people like that near other people in real life....
Customers getting worked up over feelings scammed I think is the issue.

Just because it's also a game doesn't mean gamers shouldn't be pissed at bioware for this screwed up release.

I guess the weird thing is, at least from the time I started paying attention to the game... they released exactly what they said they would + a myriad of bugs which are rapidly being fixed.

That's not a glowing review, but its not a scam either. A lot of people seemed to project what they wanted out of the game on it, and then got upset when it was what the devs said it was going to be in the time running up to launch.

Believe it or not the £60 I got DMC5 and Puyo Puyo Tetris with was what was going to go into Anthem. Thankfully it didn't.

I just don't get how a game of a similar genre/design can launch with so much more content than a game in development for 6 years. It just baffles me.
For me the greater amount of content doesn't cancel the fact that to me the gameplay is boring. It's like playing a complicated RPG version of COD, no thanks.

My feelings as well. If people are claiming they were scammed that's more like anger just coming through than being the truth. Again, even if something is frustrating me me though I don't go running to reddit to spout off a bunch of hate and rage. For me I go to the gym and workout on the punching bag or something. Much healthier way to relieve stress than just being an a-hole, not to mention being a more mature way to release stress. Typing up an a-hole post on reddit is just immature.

At least they're not asking for a season pass or expansion money to fix things...

Customers are free to be critical. The game is absolutely flat out awful. Easily one the worst of 2019 so far imo. It's a poor mans Destiny/Warframe hybrid that offers a story that has no depth, barely any customisation options except maybe a few loadouts and nothing innovative to the already existing looter shooter genre on top of the issues of the game being a complete bugged mess and the devs lying to players. Hence why I gave the game a 4/10.

However death threats are not criticism. You can argue it all you want. It's a fact they aren't.

Gamers are pissed. That's why they are being critical. However once you start throwing vile shit like death threats out you've lost any right to be heard or to have your opinion taken with any credibility.

You're right. They're just asking you to be patient for one to two years.

I mean can you imagine them trying to charge for DLC now after this?

Most other devs can get away with it because most of the time they are worth supporting or push a quality product. For the most part that is.

Honestly had Anthem been a good game out the door and made Bioware/EA win some brownie/loyalty points back then they could have probably gotten away with an expansion/DLC model. But it wasn't. And now by the time they even fix the mess they've made it'll just be the Destiny 2 situation where the majority have left the game and barely any will come back even if the product improves.

Destiny 2 40/60€ patch was a farce tho. No shit people aren't coming back...

Its up to EA if they want to pull that trigger on Anthem.

So... less time than the division, like a 1/6th to 1/3 of the time of warframe, same time frame as D3 getting their shit together...

I didn't keep up with how long it took PoE to become a good game but yknow.... probably not terribly far off there either.

You mean like every other game in the genre besides Warframe which took like 5 years to become worth touching?

I honestly can't believe you still post in this thread, its getting pretty sad.

It matters because you don't have to pay your way in to play.

With a F2P title you can pop in and out as you see fit without any investment. With a game like Destiny or in this case Anthem you have to drop $60 and you expect a certain amount of value out of that $60.

Not hard to understand why it matters.

It absolutely matters. PoE and Warframe are F2P games with a F2P model.

And you're trying to compare them to B2P games that want to have their cake and eat it too and also have a F2P model.

The fact you don't get this is puzzling.

I honestly don't, as far as I'm concerned its just a way to demo the game for free. It doesn't excuse that a game like Warframe took 6 years for it to become worth playing to some people while still being riddled with the same issues that people hold against the B2P titles. It doesn't excuse that the MTX costs in a game like PoE are disgustingly expensive for things you're going to want which will easily dwarf the up to 60$ (if you don't want to wait for a sale like I usually do for most games) entrance fee.

My time is easily my most valuable currency, so if a games going to be worth playing its going to be worth playing.

People sink hundreds of hours into POE before needing the only really "required" purchase being tab space. And trust me, its far lower than $60. So dont hyperbole on top of your subjective opinion you are treating as fact.
