Of course it is. Games aren't judged for their quality against comparable games released 6 years ago, they're judged against their actual competition.

Ah the good old playtime paradox.
Played less than X: "You can't judge the game yet, you havent played enough. Wait for lategame!"
Played more than X: "You are not allowed to complain anymore, you played enough and got your moneys worth".

Although it really doesn't take 100 hours to see anthem for what it is.

When people usually pull that it means they don't have any actual interest in a debate or discussion to be honest.

Usually they also go for the "it's the players fault" for whenever a game has issues.

With my Interceptor, I have a flight path when doing my Strongholds. With Scar nest, I go left up the ramp, kill the minis there, then go down and kill the Snipers. My Sudden Strike can almost shread their shields and with a few shots from a LMG their shields are gone and I sudden strike again. In the next room with the door, I go left again and kill the sniper and minis there, grab the one by the door and then see hwat is left.

I keep my Interceptor as a run n gun playstyle. I will so a strike, Target point, shoot and run. I don't always kill my targets but they do get down to about 30-20ish percent when I stop. With this Javelin, I hunt all non shielded enemies as they are the easiest to take down lol. I admit that it is very hard to play Javlin in GM2 but if you get your flight path right you are almost ahard to kill since you are always moving around not staying long enough for enemies to hit you.

So, been a fan of BioWare since the OT Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins. Wanted to try Anthem, but I've heard it's bad.

Is it worth the $80 price tag? Should I wait for BW to update it maybe?

Honest opinion. No it's not. It's basically a diet version of Warframe and Destiny combined.

If you are expecting a ME/DA level of story you won't get it with this game for starters as most of the old guard has left Bioware. The story has some of the most boring dialogue, forgettable characters and lacks so much depth compared to past BW games.

As for gameplay itself the gunplay isn't terrible but the endgame content is very very repetitive and lacks anything interesting imo on top of a unrewarding loot structure. As for PvP there isn't any.

Imo this is a game that should be bought on a 70% or more discount. April will be bringing in new content but nothing spectacular. It just isn't a AAA game made by a AAA dev team with the current state it's in.

But honestly mate best to just do what you feel is right. On sites like here, reddit, forums and etc you'll just get a lot of biased responses from both sides of the extreme crowd. Those who think the game can do no wrong and of course the other side who thinks the games worse than shit like Metal Gear Survive....

It's not worth 80$. I had fun while playing but I was basically done with it after 2 weeks. There's just very little content and it's quite repetitive.

I bought Origin Access for 15€ for a month and that seemed like a good deal. I think the game was worth paying 15€ for but not really any more than that in its current state.

could not agree with this more. I did the same and got the Origin access so that I could play without spending the 60$. 15$ is about all it is worth. While the gameplay is fun it gets repetitive real fast. There are so many various bugs in the game, like audio drops(fixed I think), queing a stronghold or Contract only to be dropped and brought back to Tarsis, Queing Quickplay only to be loaded into a Strongold or Contract with zero progression and have to leave and reque again.(constatnt and frequent problem for me).

The difficulty by mode is only increased HP and damage, GM1 is decent and you can get through it easily, but GM2 has about 3x the HP per mob(not boss) that you can spam abilities on them before they go down.

The weapons and abilities are really cool, I love my Storm and interceptor, but the variety is small and the affixes to the weapons and abilities are not that great even after their rework.

The crafting system is gated behind reputation. So if you are only level one Rep and lvl 28 Javelin your gear will not match your level.

The gear drops from the runs are just not great. GM1 you get shittons of purples, 1 guaranteed Masterwork(if RNG is with you, you may get more), a few blues. In GM2 you would figure the Masterworks would drop more frequently since even the Tool tip says to, but the drops equal GM1 with the added exception og a .5 chance at a legendary(figurative not literal)

I have played this game in GM2 since the second week of launch and have just THREE Legendaries.

The only way to earn coins is thrugh Contacts and Strongolds. The only thing to spend the coins on are cosmetics and materials for gear. The cosmetics are on a 3day turnaround so you can amass a good pile of coins but no need to use them,

You can Salvage your weapons for materials, but cannot sell them for coins. Gear drops like a BLIZZARD so there is no real reason to use the materials to craft unless you want to try your RNG luck to get better stats for them. I can craft a few Masterwork Weapons, but not abilities. Almost all my Abilities are green or purple. I can only craft Purple Components no Masterworks. But they are just the same thing you get from Strongholds or contracts, so you can craft, and hope RNG is on your side, or just keep running Strongholds or Contracts for gear.

There is ZERO player interaction outside of Contracts and Strongholds. And even in these the only way to communicate is through VoiP and after 3 weeks I heard only 5 people say something. Your main city is a 1st Person view, with various interactions but cannot see other players except for the Launchbay and again there is ZERO communication.

The enemies in the game are ok, but if you go out of their range, they will often not follow you and you cna just shoot them down with Abilities or bullets. The objectives are the usuals, kill this, gather that, protect this. I dont mind this part as there really is no real new stuff you can do in a game nowadays.

But I think I will stop here lol. It is not a "bad" game just not a "finished" game. 6 years of development and this is all we got.

As long as I don't get 1shot I'm mostly fine, though I still die sometimes.

I was running spark dash with an extra charge and just zooming around everywhere for a while but since they changed the scaling on melee and procs its just too weak to compete with me just straight up meleeing. The lightning proc on melee component does more damage than it. Its just for the mobility at that point, and I felt better served just running the usual poison bomb + tempest strike combo even if the poison bomb didn't have anything special rolled on it.

Spark dash is also a really unpolished ability, so while I did like basically being able to teleport to mobs, I didn't like dealing with all the camera issues I'd get or it not connecting.

Oh I forgot I never use consumables either. Not really an intentional thing, I just never think about them and don't feel like they're needed at this point. I should probably try to remember.
I'm running with MW Spark Dash and Venom Spray - the charging ability is just so handy especially against sniper units like Scar scouts and hunters. I hardly hear of anyone running Venom Spray but I think it's a neat little ability, decent AoE damage, puts a damage boosting debuff up and primes so your melee can get combos. I've tried the standard Venom Bomb and Tempest Strike but they just don't do it for me. Also played with Cryo-glaive a little bit as I got a legendary drop but it feels wrong not having Spark Dash even if the Frost Aura is super handy against melee heavy factions like Scorpions.

I should probably look through my components as I'm mostly set up for damage dealing, a major place that needs improving is the inventory and character screens to see what stats you have in use and in storage.

By the by for people who actually play the game in this thread, some random reddit poster claimed that depending on how the algorithm works its actually really bad to go to 90+% luck and you should max go to 89% otherwise it screws your luck chance.

I've seen nothing backing this up, but we know there's no reason to go above 90 so staying below it shouldn't be a huge issue just for superstitions sake.
I've messed with this having my luck around 120% and 86% in elite missions and strongholds on GM1 and GM2 and my drops were consistently crap so all I can say for sure is Randomius Factoria does not favour me.

I have the biggest problem forgetting to use the Support Target debuff now. I know its there, but I am so busy running in and killing that by the time I remember it, the mob is dead lol. Er, no. If you blaze through you can easily finish the game in less than 10 hours, the only long main planet is Noveria. The prologue on Eden Prime/the Citadel takes two hours tops, Feros can be done in 2 hours as well, Virmire/Liara's rescue mission in one each, and from there you literally only have the endgame.

This thread actually made me play ME2 and then ME3 (skipping ME1 because the gameplay is completely unbearable now). I heard a lot of good things about ME3's Expanded Galaxy mod which adds a ton of shit and is on the Nexus.

As for Anthem, I definitely won't touch it anytime soon. Bioware seems to acknowledge its flaws, but that in and of itself doesn't fix them, they have a long way to go, and The Division 2 seems to do well which will leech yet more players on top of Warframe just having a content drop. I'm really hoping this doesn't spell serious problems for Bioware, I couldn't care less about Anthem but Dragon Age 4 needs to happen, along with any other potential new RPG IP or a Mass Effect revival.

I can't recommend it unequivocally because it is far from a perfect product. In terms of gameplay it is incredible fun - I favour the Interceptor which is a highly manoeuvrable, close range single target specialist, when things go right I'm a speeding God of destruction laying waste to high priority targets or smashing through less capable troops. When things go bad I crumple like wet paper and need to run and find a hill to hide behind, at which point I content myself popping off with a rifle or LMG until my shields are up and I spot some health packs.

It all looks really awesome, the landscapes are wicked and the Javelins look brilliant with the option to mix-and-match heads, torsos, arms and legs from different suits with lots of painting options.

Story is nowhere near as bad as some people are trying to make out. It lacks the epic scope of Mass Effect and there isn't really any significant choices, but I liked the main plot and the three faction stories (Freelancers, Sentinels and Arcanists) and I found the characters engaging. It did a good job providing context and letting you know about the setting.

The only parts that had anything resembling BioWare's "choose-your-own-adventure" style dialogue choices were the little vignettes around Fort Tarsis. You have little chats with various people, sometimes you give advice and next time you see the person you get to know the results. It mostly seemed to just effect reputation and some aesthetics around the main hub, but I'm interested in seeing if later DLC gives you different missions or perks depending on how those stories turned out.

The end-game/meta-game has some issues. Whether your preferred playstyle can be considered viable at higher difficulties is very dependent on random drops, and people looking for a nice comfortable skinner-box aren't too happy about the lack of dopamine hits. It's definitely a game you play because you enjoy playing it rather than one where you play for a sense if steady progression.

Finally there a pretty severe lack of polish. Bugs that can be close to gamebreaking, an excess of loading screens and little things like a lack of character sheet that make it difficult to get maximum enjoyment from the game.

Anthem is probably the most fun looter-shooter I’ve ever played at launch, and the core of it blows every other competitor out of the water for me personally (fills that Iron Man need I didn’t know I even had) I play it quite a lot right now, and easily worth the 60$ + 15$ Origin to try it out (although the Origin month paid for itself in other games as well) already. I see myself playing this in the future like I did D3 for so many years, having bursts of nonstop-grinding and funtimes for a month or so before I put it away again for a month or so and the cycle repeats.

It all just depends on if/when the content flow starts, and the quality of it. The game itself has a rock solid core, and bugs/glitches get patched up and fixed, and the game gets polished. The game should absolutely have been delayed until May or so, it had too many issues at launch, but that isn’t something I can blame the developers for too much, I suspect that would be daddy EA pushing them to wrap shit up faster than they *knew* they were gonna have it ready for.

I’m a patient boi though, so imma definitely play Anthem for way more than other games I’ve shelled out 60$ for. Heck, I already have.

My issue is spark dash does less damage than the proc from my component, so its literally just for moving around since the damage is meh. Interceptor is already incredibly fast at moving around with the animation canceling, so I don't feel the need to run it. Venom spray has an awkward short range animation, doesn't do much damage while having a longer CD, and usually wouldn't prime targets on the first spray for me. I also really don't like interceptors ultimate, so I wasn't crazy about much of its value being wrapped into that.

I had better results running either of the kicks. Helps that I have a tempest strike with +175% gear dmg.

I should probably look through my components as I'm mostly set up for damage dealing, a major place that needs improving is the inventory and character screens to see what stats you have in use and in storage.
Yeah I have some pretty hefty inscriptions for defense, I'm also running softened blows though that proc seems to be finnicky on whether or not its working. Sometimes It procs and I feel invincible other times it procs and I swear its not doing anything at all.

I've got 13% effect resist, 40% elect resist, 20% acid resist, 85% max armor, 135% max shield on my gear, 75% dmg reduction when my shield breaks via softened blows, get a free ult once every 2 minutes from emergency power if my health goes critical.

Please be aware a decent number of people who actively post in this thread don't actually play the game and never bought it. They just stick around to post about how they didn't buy the game and hate on it. Elecc is one such person, I genuinely don't understand why they're so committed to a game they don't play.

If you're a patient person you could always wait for a sale, its still very much in that unfinished in need of polish + content state that all these games launch in. If you want you could always buy the 5$ origin sub which I believe still gives you a 10 hour trial and will also let you play a bunch of other games for the month. You'll be able to figure out whether or not you want to stick with it in that time. You also get a 10% discount on the game if you do decide to buy it so it pays for itself.

Also why 80$? Games 60$ base, the 80$ version is only for skins. Unless its a country specific thing?

Yeah, I have no idea where he's getting this info from. I did bother to look at a few of those threads where people were linking Gifs of them getting multiple legendaries from a stronghold box and they always get asked how much luck and it was consistently under 90% so I figure it can't hurt to make sure I'm under there just for superstitious reasons.

Yeah I tend to try to ignore ME1's graphics, and just remember it was made in 2007, and graphics technology was still fairly primitive then.

Technically, they probably started making models and textures in 2005-6, so that's even earlier.

Oh, I don't think xbox has origin, but I think there's something similar.

Either way its a very contentious game so you're gonna have to figure this one out since its cool to hate on the game right now. I personally enjoy it while also recognizing that its very much an unfinished game and is going through those growing pains. The devs have been super transparent and active on reddit though, and they've had a good turn around time on fixing things thus far. Which are the two biggest things that made me decide to buy the game after my origin sub ran out.

It didn't age well at all. The graphics as you say somehow look far worse than ME2's to me, the gameplay is absolute ass, and it was clearly the first time Bioware used the paraphrase system because a good number of choices mean nothing or almost nothing in terms of what Shepard says. On a replay you can also see how the story on the Citadel makes very little sense, the humans hoping that the Council would throw their top agent to the wolves based on one eyewitness testimony was stupid.

The characters are still pretty good however, especially Wrex and Ashley, and the soundtrack is killer. But then again Mass Effect has by far the best soundtrack of any Bioware production.

Oh this game is better than Warframe now as far as I'm concerned, yet alone Warframe in 2013. That's apples to oranges, Warframe has a better progression system for the moment and inferior pretty much everything else.

Also Freemium games have monetization schemes like everything else.. your logic would make sense if they didn't actually expect you to pay for anything... but they do. The crack dealer method isn't a novel concept.

If Anthem was launched as a F2P title (… and btw, Warframe skins cost around 10-20$ if I remember correctly and you can acquire the currency without spending a single dollar), people would still complain about it, just the same way they complained about all those other games you’ve mentioned, they don’t get “free passes”, however this kind of shit is usually taken into consideration when rating the damn game like it or not.
People are acting like Anthem is DOA, its not at all the same. (and we weren't only talking about Warframe... and the prices on Warframe stuff is all over the map)

Yeah this is one of those things, I keep hearing them talk about the council and I'm given dialogue choices where I can make him like super anti-council or fine with them or whatever yet I have no idea who the council really are or why he would be for or against them. Its just odd storytelling.
