We have a thread like this from time to time, but everyone loves a top 5: what are your top 5 raids in game history?

1. Throne of Thunder
It had a great buildup through the MoP story and Isle of Thunder, had the troll and Mogu themes (which are pretty awesome), great fights, good transmog gear, mounts, high degree of visual diversity (the initial approach, the Tortos cavern, the Ji-kun tunnels, etc.) and the Lei Shen fight. My god that was a good final encounter of a raid.

everything was just awesome in that raid, except for maybe the difficulty of Twin Consorts. I was really surprised by Blizzard

2. Sunwell Plateau

at its time it was the best raid ever to have come out. and the difficulty was unlike anything we had ever seen, loved it - especially when M´uru damage still slowed down casts!

3. Bastion of Twilight

I feel like the difficulty was so right on point and the voice acting was phenomenal

4. Karazhan

nostalgia and Shade of Aran epicness

5. Ulduar

I enjoyed the hardmode system and the Vezax fight a lot.

1. Onyxia - The game was new, we were mostly in blues and it was a huge cave with a frigging dragon man.. it was epic!
2. Blackwing Lair - compared to MC it was so much harder and dragons man! Also the sets looked incredible it had a feel to it the entire raid.
3. Black Temple - "and now you dare enter MY realm?" Yes, yes we did and it was so cool!
4. Karazhan - it had alot of lore, interesting fights and it was just really fun to do.
5. Ahn'Qiraj - It was so much different to anything we did and have done since. I really enjoyed the entire theme of the raid and the end boss was really amazing.

/I'd include Naxx 40 but I never cleared more than one wing. Seeing it in the air was pretty damn cool though.

Havn't really felt that sense of awe with any of the newer raids, maybe because the game is not new anymore I dunno. Throne of Thunder is a really cool raid but ultimately the bosses didn't really feel threatening and the WoD/Legion raids have the same problem for me(minus a few ofcourse and not including Tomb yet).

Zul'Aman (great pick, even loved the timed runs that came later)

And I would probably say firelands/dragonsoul. I enjoyed the end of cata much more than the start.

I should say I raided in vanilla, bc, wrath, cata and currently. But i skipped mop and wod for life stuffs.

Oh shi... ill give it up for Ony. Forgot about her. The OG fight was awesome...

Okay, here's my top 5:

5. Firelands.

4. Throne Of Thunder.

3. Ice Crown Citadel.

2. Tomb Of Sargeras.

1. Ulduar.

The ToS, and Ulduar are CLOSE...


But, I just LOVED Ulduar just a tiny bit more. Not because of Nostalgia, but...because it looked amazing, the boss mechs were fun...and...well...

Fuck the Maiden boss, man. That's what fucked the Tomb for me. Otherwise, The Tomb would EASILY take the mantle...

Now, here's the other 5 that didn't make the top 5:

10. Karazhan 10 man. Looked good, but that was it.

9. Siege of Orgrimmar. Shitty ending, took too long.

8. HFC. Good mechanics, looked amazing. End boss was tough, but the ending was shit.

7. Sunwell Plateau. Good raid, great mechanics, was amazing.

And lastly, 6. Naxxramas. Was amazing, but...just didn't make the cut.

BRF is a close 11 for me, sadly.


Now, for my top 10 WORST raids:

10. Molten core.

9. Heart of Fear.

8. Mogu'shan vaults.

7. Zul'aman.

6. TotC.

5. Blackwing Lair.

4. Blackwing Descent.

3. Throne of the Four winds.

2. Highmaul.

And, lastly, for number 1. Dragon Soul.

1. SoO - First time I ever raided on an endgame level

2. HFC - First time I raided with the same guild for a prolonged period of time in mythic difficulty (Showed up to raid from start to finish in hfc)

3. Emerald Nightmare - First time I got a final boss kill on mythic difficulty prior to the release of the next raid

4. ICC - Always memorable because I lost a Bryntroll roll to a fury warrior who was wielding it in one of his hands already, oh and I also rolled a 69 and he a 70.

5. Molten Core - First raid I stepped into when I was only like 8 years old irl. (killed a few trash mobs and left bc I got scared).

Trying to get out of the high speed nostalgia train that it going on in this thread I would have to say I really like ToS so far. Sure it's a lot easier than expected but the fights have some original mechanics, the place looks cool with a lot of variety in environment, bosses have nice arenas where to fight them (walking on water during mistress, the moon cycle of sisters, etc.) Maybe I'm just completely biased because of how fucking bad Nighthold was but I find ToS to be really fun, good chances to be in my top 5.

Other than that, in no particular order: Ulduar, Fireland, Karazhan and... oh boy... something no one mentioned yet, SSC, yes I liked SSC.

Worth to mention: Gruul's lair, specialy the first boss cuz I was mage tanking, that shit was dope.

I didn't play MoP at all and only raided HFC when it was out for more than a year so I will omit those 2 expansions. I am also skipping Tomb since I have not completed the Mythic version of that instance for obvious reason, and I would like to withhold my opinion until that happens.

3. Naxx 40 (at the time. If you go by standards today most fights are very simple)
4. Karazhan
5. Icecrown Citadel.

I actually really like a few fights in BWL but it also have just as many terrible filler bosses (like the 3 drakes)

I know a lot of people liked Ulduar but I couldn't stand it. It was pretty, but it was mostly just huge emptyish rooms with way too much trash.

1- Ulduar
Unique fights, and the lore behind. Also loved Yogg'saron fight.
2- Karazhan
The atmosphere and boss fights.
3- Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
The setting of the raid, its atmosphere, it felt like you were inside the belly of the beast and you had to fight your way through to survive.
4- Icecrown Citadel
Great boss fights, especially The Lich King.
5- Trial of Valor
Fun boss fights. I like the raid's theme too.

1. Icecrown Citadel - Great place to finish the best expansion with
2. Ulduar - Huge place with a lot of variability and awesome hard modes
3. Karazhan - My first raid which felt very atmospheric and hard great boss fights for newcomers
4. Black Temple - My first 25 man raid that is not a lair, the whole place felt epic and I was looking forward to see Illidan at the end (back when he was a good character)
5. Naxxramas 40-man - While I didn't experience this when it was current content, the place felt amazing and I love having these hard to clear raids that only 1% of the playerbase gets to see

Honorable mention to Zul'Gurub, Blackwing Lair, AQ40, Sunwell Plateau (would be my 6th), Firelands and ToT. Haven't seen Tomb of Sargeras yet.
