This endeavour is being undertaken by an entirely separate team at Blizzard from the one working on World of Warcraft and its next expansion. That’s great news for players who don’t care about revisiting the past but are much more interested in Warcraft’s future. "We’re going to hire people specifically for this job, and we’re going to staff it with people who are interested in bringing back Classic WoW in the best, most authentic way," Brack says. "And that’s how we’ll be successful."

Is cata just hated for the world revamp? or other reasons?
Another interesting interview here.
From what I remember, it seemed like there wasn't a whole lot to do. Once you got over the initial excitement of a world revamp or leveling a new class-race combination, you weren't left with a whole lot to do. Cata was actually the expansion that made my brother quit the game, and he hasn't been back since. Fortunately for me that's back when I RP'd a lot so the lack of things to do didn't really affect me as much.

Got it.
That means either of two things:
1. The real port, the vanilla is being adjusted on the code level to be compatible with the current subsystems. Then the above is mostly an oversimplification said in order to specifically placate people rightly worried about the initiative possibly draining development effort from WoW. The draining of effort is still absolutely going to happen, but they will try to limit it to some of the old devs getting the new ones familiarized with the old code (inescapable) and staying ready to help for the next year or so (inescapable).
2. The low-tech port, there are no actual changes in code and they are adjusting the infrastructure. The DB / network interface is virtualized and the entire execution environment is virtualized as well with their hooks doing the translation and adaptation to existing systems. This does not require knowledge of the code in vanilla / whatever, the team performing the port only has to know only the surface of both the old and the new stuff. This does not drain much of the resources of the existing WoW team. In return the port is being completely bonkers, they (the new team) is very limited in what they can fix and how and have to do this in a very roundabout way.
I am betting on 2.
Some people hated the revamped zones, some people hated lfr, some people hated the last raid, some people hated the difficulty of the dungeons, some people hated the story...
What I liked of cataclysm is I had an stable raid group and I made good friends. My friends enjoyed MoP a lot but it was really difficult to be together to raid. In WoD, my friends stopped playing and in Legion, iam alone haha.

Off: my predictions were right! faction war and they will use the titans blood as a source!
Many people have mixed feelings because we wanted to face the void but I think blizzard wanted to solve all the factions plots before we unite an face Nzoth and the Void Lords.
