Need Help With First Custom PC, Build, & Budget

    • Budget: ~$1600 CAD
    • Resolution: 1920x1080
    • Games / Settings Desired: Overwatch/FF14/WoW
    • "Special things": None
    • Country: Canada
    • Parts that can be reused: None
    • Do you need an OS?: Yes
    • Do you need peripherals?: No peripherals needed

Hi! I'm long overdue for a new PC and I want it to be my first custom build, but I have no idea what I'm doing beyond putting the thing together. I'm looking for something that will at least be able to play FF14/WoW/Overwatch at max settings (possibly Destiny 2 as well), plus a few single player games in my backlog like Mirror's Edge 2, Deus Ex, Fallout 4. I'm hoping the specs necessary can fit into a ~$1600 CAD budget (~$1200 USD) but if not I'd like to know what that much will get me, and what I would have to spend to match my desired games/settings. I'll be reusing my peripherals from my current PC, so as long as the new one has PS/2 ports I won't need anything. If not, I can survive on a cheap mouse and keyboard til I can replace.

    The advice is much appreciated!

Very slightly over budget, but got a 1080 in there. Could probably get a cheaper case if needed. Also need to pick up Windows from a site like kinguin for around $30.

Goes over by a little more and only has a 1070 in it. Could also get a less expensive case and also still need a copy of windows.

Thanks for this. Considering the Intel build but with the 1080 from the Ryzen build. Is there a large enough difference in performance to justify the price?

Changing out the case to a Fractal Design Define C to shave off $50 as well.

    Also, is Kinguin trustworthy?

Personally. I don't think so. Some people say Ryzen is very far behind, but it's not as far behind as they make it seem. In older games and games that need higher single core performance, the intel does have and edge. With a 1080p 60hz monitor though, you are unlikely to notive the difference. The higher resolution you go, the smaller the difference becomes. If you have a 144hz monitor and competitive FPS gaming is your gig, definitely go with the intel. Outside of that use case, I personally do not feel the difference in performace is worth it.

Fine choice on the case. Here are a couple other options as well:
    https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/...sair-case-200r
    https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/...se-cc9011075ww

I have the 200R and love it, though it's gone up in price since I got mine. My friend has the 100R.

Make sure you choose the buyers protection with kinguin. Sometimes you'll get a bad key, but if you have the buyers protection, they'll give you another.

After an unexpected expense and my failure to plan for tax in my budget, it looks like the only way I'll be able to afford this any time soon is to put a 1050ti in it and upgrade to a 1080 later. I'm definitely letting my impatience get the better of me on this one, but I just can't wait anymore.

    Finished product would be:

Might yet go with the 200R instead of the Define C just to save a bit more. Is there perhaps a better GPU for roughly the same price?
