Who Ults in front of Rein? Most people go around him from a flank or pop an Ult when his back is turned, letting you pick people off and he has a choice, turn around and potentially die to others, try to hide like others, or get a few kills before death. DVa can turn and fly out of most dangers while still absorbing an entire Ult, or stick right on them casually walking behind while her matrix absorbs the people in front.
Though the nerf to her DM might be a little too much, it was definitely needed. DM provides a defense like no other skill in the game and the fact it can basically be there whenever you need it makes it extremely powerful. At least you can break other barriers, with D.va you can only break her mech to stop her defenses for awhile, which can be difficult given how slippery she is. Not a big fan of making tanks more dps-y but I suppose she did really need a alt fire since I mean...she is in a giant mech with just machine guns? Blizz pls.
These are the stats for the micro missiles.
That equates to 211 damage in a shade under 2 seconds. So instead of just eating your ults. DVa will now eat half of it, and blow you up while you try to use them. I find this hilarious and disturbing. DVa with an effective OHK on an 8 second cooldown.Originally Posted by Blizzard Entertainment
From an aesthetic side, it's a great idea. She has this giant mech, and its only real use is this shrapnel blast thing and nothing else. Adding missiles to it makes sense from that perspective.
Those numbers look bad, but I think the chances of hitting with all of them are going to be nil. Either way, I think it's still the wrong way to go.
This isn't up on the PTR yet, is it? I couldn't get access to check. It's nearly impossible to start saying you can "one-shot" people with this, unless we know 1> how they get fired (in terms of D.va's hitbox), and B> what kind of spread they have when launched.
If they're fired from a central spot, like her stomach, then you can probably gib a squishy if they're RIGHT in your face. But if they, say, launch from her back/shoulders before turning to where you're targeting, in classic Anime mecha form, then you might not be able to reliably hit people close to you at all. And if their spread is significant (which seems likely), hitting a single target with all 18 missiles is potentially not even feasible, perhaps no matter what the range is. Maybe you can consistently hit normal-size targets at mid-range with half, or something.
Tanking, in Overwatch, does not mean you can't deal damage, or that you need to be focused primarily on absorbing damage. This has literally never been true in the history of the game.

Above average HP, some ability to soak damage (which even her reduced DM definitely provides, as well as her heavy armor), and the added rockets will give her more offensive capacity.
Some updates. Basically they fire as a stream to a single point then. So. Effective OHK.Originally Posted by Blizzard Entertainment
Well, 18-hit kill. Calling that a "OHK" is abusing the term.
But I don't really like the design they're proposing. I was expecting something more visually similar to this;
Laser-beam-focused burst rockets for heavy damage on a short CD is gonna make D.va MORE brokenly strong, not less.
Yaaaay for the DM change. Dva has been an absolute pain in my ass PLUS I also now have a use for her trying to counter a pharah
People honestly defending Defense Matrix? She's one of the best tanks, if not the best tank out here. I still feel like they should've let her absorb a specific amount of damage before her DM fails instead of this shorter timer they have given her. We'll have to see how the PTR works out.
Which is why I call it 'effective' because it's quick burst. Roadhog was never OHK either.

Which begs the question, where do they launch from on the model?
That, and that she's Korean, is why I went with an anime mecha perspective rather than a Mechwarrior one. So I picture small ports snapping open and missiles firing from everywhere.
The way they describe it sounds more like a big rocket machine gun, which might be a really cool idea, but it's like the A-10 Warthog; that's a really cool gun, now build a whole hero around it.
Shes not a tank
and shes not a "bruiser" or "bully" tank. I swear the official forums have so many terms thrown around without knowing what they are saying.
shes a DPS with an inflated healthpool.
And there are simply not enough tanks to justify this change.
Her hit boxes are so wacked that her damage absorption is a joke.

Gave her a try on PTR. Felt squishier than playing DPS, because such a massive hit and crit box, also the missiles felt really clunky as well being a slow travel on a hitscan hero they just feel completely out of place.
Honestly, with only 2 seconds on DM, they're better going back to a hard cooldown. The 1 second before recharge is absolutely brutally punishing on up time if you try feathering it, so it's just not worth it to have it on demand.
Was gonna post on here an idea I had about how to change Defense Matrix so that it's not as powerful without nerfing it completely, but decided to post it on the official forums instead, out of the (vain) hope that devs might see it...again, assuming it's not already been suggested and dismissed.
Even if it's not an idea you're fond of either, I suggest that anyone else unhappy with the D.va changes be sure to add your voice to those on the forums, if you haven't already. Blizzard will still likely stick to their guns, but if enough people complain, there's always the slim possibility they'll rethink aspects of the rework.
