In theory no it shouldn't. Someone in a persistent vegetative state, that is to say a Terri Schiavo-esque PVS, is functionally dead already.

In theory? What theory would that be? Certainly not a legal one.

A McDonald’s employee gave birth at work and then tried to kill the baby ... by feeding it McDonalds.

That was the punchline I was expecting.

Coke and cookies, that's nuts. I pity the baby, even if it couldn't remember. I pity the lady too, especially if she didn't realize she was pregnant and that was a big freak-out.

But yeesh, bash her head with a hammer? Sterilize her? The hell is wrong with you people? If you actually acted on that stuff, you'd be 100 times worse than her. Get some therapy, people.

Someone with Terri Schiavo's PVS is functionally already dead. You cannot murder someone who is already dead. What is it you find difficult to understand?

What are you having trouble understanding? You keep using this phrase "functionally dead", as if its either accurate or relevant to the discussion. I was simply using PVS to question Elba's view on the value of human life.

"Unlike brain death, permanent vegetative state (PVS) is recognized by statute law as death in very few legal systems."

    So, what's your point again?

What I suspect happened was that she was in hardcore denial and couldn't afford to call in sick.

Sick of these people claiming how "they didn't know" they were preggers as well. How can you not know? Never had a biology class? Unbelievable!

Severe brain damage likely....who knows what life awaits this poor baby.
Sooo since you've failed biology. Here to help you because obviously you are clueless about the topic:

Bleeding during pregnancy is quite normal and can be misinterpreted as period bleeding. Also depending on your body weight you might not see a difference because well, you're already large.

And to answer what kind of person does this? Either someone who has serious mental issues for a while or someone who has a mental breakdown because they just gave birth to a baby in a toilet at work without knowing they are pregnant.

I also don't understand how this happened as I actually WAS pregnant and I basically knew the morning after when I got out of bed and promptly fell down due to what I can only assume was my body's fatigue with whatever processes were happening at the time.

There are a ton of hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy. You feel different. It's not just the lack of periods and water retention and the constipation and the nausea and the weird food cravings. You have to have a truly exceptional pregnancy (few symptoms, baby that doesn't kick much/positioned so that you somehow don't feel it) + already be big + be super oblivious to your body's changes to not know.

Of course it's not common but it also happens.

If she was having a mental break? Rational, humane decisions are hard sometimes, yes. Still horrible though.

A mom tried to murder her newborn and you're trying to push an anti US agenda. Clean your own house first. I didn't see you in that thread demanding that man be locked up yet here you are demanding this one be locked up or worse essentially.

You need to focus at the topic at hand not me.

I also knew one woman that didn't find out she was pregnant till she was 7 months along. I believe she went to the doctor because she suspected she had kidney stones and was then asked why she didn't tell them she was pregnant. She had no idea. She wasn't overweight and I wouldn't say she was totally oblivious to her body's changes. She said she just didn't get any signs she was. She got a regular period and didn't feel any movement. Which isn't unheard of. Some babies don't move as often. And when they do move, it can be shurged off as poop cramps, lol. Seriously.
I didn't know KNOW at the time, all I knew at the time was that I was feeling really weird, brushed it off with that "Could the birth control have failed? Nahhhhh...." as symptoms continued after a week or so. I just had immediate fatigue and nausea which I had throughout my pregnancy. Now looking back on it, it's TOTALLY OBVIOUS what it was, but of course I couldn't know that at the time.

I have had a couple of friends who had similar-ish experiences, one said she suspected because she felt like her period was coming and she knew it wasn't due for another two weeks. But I also had a miscarriage, so something being wrong with the baby might have had something to do with it.

It's pretty common knowledge that female babies are killed in China in preference for males... I am pretty sure you're aware of China's gender imbalance, due to this.
