Ok 2017 and no flying car?

Alright I am thinking on the MMO-C OT what would the overall collective I.Q of everyone?

Moreover with that combined effort starting with no theories or anything else, just based on what we know and our ability to problem solve, COULD WE figure out this flying car business, once and for all, if so what could we come up with, what would it take to make it a reality?

I do mean this as a challenge critically, and of course any specialist or experts that can provide real critical criticism, but only so far as to point out either challenges or barriers for some of the ideas.

Otherwise everything is and should be on the table unless eliminated, SO, How could the we make the flying car a reality?

Also if a flying car is a reality, take into account the all the other factors engineers would have to consider for practical use, such as the overall viability of your average person being able to operate, and navigate with the said device. It's also important to take into consideration things like what kind of roads, traffic and infrastructure could be built and sustained for this.

So the question really isn't just to design a flying car, but think in terms of the way Henry Ford did in way of making the automobile a reality. Not so much reinventing the wheel, but what technology could be developed or maybe already exist to be improved on, that could realistically make the flying car real?

The main problem with is the square cube law. A modern car would be far, far, far too heavy to lift off the ground with efficiency for any extended period of time - let alone on a mass scale. Either it'd burn through fuel just trying to stay airborne, or it'd be too slow to be practical if it used efficient technologies.

The other problem is that ATM, there is no need for a flying car. Unless our cities eventually turn into Courscant and we have several mile high mega-towers that our neighborhoods, industries, offices, and shopping districts are built upon, in which case it'd be more practical to go back to using airships (since they actually benefit from using the square cube law) and try to make them affordable.

Not sold for sure, but my follow up would be what are the actual options?

I like the turbine engine model

Had the same problem with the Model T

Because of the production lines, that made this horseless carriage a reality, industry infrastructure changed, more along the lines of if you build it, they will come, it's 2017 there has to be a way to build it.

Beyond something that just needs an airport or landing strip.

People already struggle with look left and right. We don't need look left, right, up, down, over there.

Other than that there is simply no practical way to build a flying car. Just get a Lisa Akoya and be done with it. If you really need to fly to your front door move to the solomon islands or alaska or something.

we got hoverboards and we got virtual reality and neither are hoverboards or virtual reality so I'm pretty sure when flying cars start popping up they're not going to be flying cars.

The only way flying cars will ever be commonplace is if they are self-flying cars. We already have enough morons who can barely handle driving in 2 dimensions. Adding another dimension to it is just asking for disaster.

I'm with you there. With so many moron drivers out there causing accidents can you imagine those same morons in flying cars? Everyday there'd be reports of people flying into houses because they confused up with down.

The obvious answer here is automation. What is that going to look like? There are many many things more practical than a flying car that we are yet to exhaust but maybe the future is this: Amazon already looking at a drone swarm for deliveries. Why not deliver people?

Yes, everyone gets to were a vest with a hook. Just hail a human capable drone and it will scoop you right up. Still more practical than flying cars. Hack the system and get rides for you favourite co worker. Pick up your kids from school, by remote.

I hereby declare that I do not give my consent to anything related to any people in my country using, driving or flying flying cars. So help me god.

I would NEVER want anybody to fly a car over my head. You can't fucking drive in a straight line, how do you suppose I trust you with a flying machine?

In the 60s and 70s, the best and brightest minds worked for Bell Labs. They made the transistor, microwave, c programming language and the laser.
In the last 15 years, the best and brightest minds have worked for Google and Facebook. They made a search engine, browser games, and found ways to increase internet ad revenue.

If you want a flying car, try Elon Musk. He's unfortunately somewhat busy trying to take us back to the 1950 levels. The flying car might have to wait.

Probably best not to. The amount of engineering going on in the world around you is spectacular and cannot be reduced to bullet points. You have a thing in the palm of your hand that would be a nigh supercomputer 20 years ago that can go all day on a battery. Not good enough? Discovered the higgs boson? Confirmed gravity waves? More importantly, can order stuff and get it without leaving the cave, sometimes in under a day?

Before you waste time designing a flying car, talk to pilots and ask them if it’s a good idea
