This decision boggles my mind. In our criminal system, it's not assault that's the crime, it's inflicting injury. And that is precisely defined as incurring a pathological state. Inflicting a sickness is absolutely a prison worthy sentence here. How anyone could think otherwise is difficult to grasp for me.

2) Yes, expensive pills keep you alive. Pills that are covered by insurance, and if you don't have insurance, or it doesn't cover enough of the price, there are a bunch of HIV outreach programs in the US that can get your medication cheaply or even free.

Hi, I'm on a regime of pills for another issue right now (non life-threatening, non-contagious). I'm not some crippled, demonic monster and my life isn't over. I know folks with HIV that do have families, sometimes with adopted kids, and life their lives just like all the rest of the regular folk too. You'd never know if they didn't tell you, and they're not even walking around hooked up to a dialysis machine!

It's clear that we still do have a long way to go with HIV education. Obviously no one WANTS to get positive, but it isn't the death sentence it used to be, and the drugs aren't nearly as harsh as they were back in the day. Some people do need a boogyman, though, and I suppose HIV can serve that purpose for them.
