Why doesn't the standard Path of Fire Expansion give 5 new slots to existing players?

As it is now if a new player buys the Standard Edition they get more for their money than an existing player would buying Ultimate.
With Path of Fire you need to buy the deluxe edition to get one. Lets look at it, We bought the game before PoF, we got our 5 slots. People buy PoF, get the core game for free that has 5 slots.

Would be reasonable to say existing players should get 5 slots free with the standard edition. Giving the full core game to new players is already giving them more than they give existing players everything they'd get other than a new account if they bought the core game again. It's still less than they are giving to new players. 5 new slots, or a free 4000 gems seeing as one slot is 800. Instead you need to buy deluxe to get one slot or ultimate to get the 4000 gems worth. Still unfair, A new player can get ultimate for the same price, gets 5 character slots and the 4000 gems. Seems reasonable to me to say that they should do their best to give existing players as close to as much value for money for the expansions as they are new players.

Maybe I'm wasting my time talking bout what is reasonable, this is Arenanet we are talking about, a company that prides itself for being one of the most unreasonable companies for existing players in video game history.

I'm not sure F2P gets 5 slots. I thought the 5th was only for people who bought GW2 before it went F2P.

Regardless, i think you are trying too hard. PoF costs 30€. You can get character slots with gold or gems. So... more playing, less QQ'ing imo.

F2P only gets 2 slots. I was meaning for those who bought core or bought HoT. We got 5 slots for our money. I think if they are chargin he same price for existing players as it is for new players and giving new players 5 slots with the expansion, existing players should have 5 added to their accounts.

It's a B2P game. They need to make Money out of it somehow.

I know, but it would be fairer to give existing players as close to as much as they are giving new ones as possible.

Thats like asking someone to the same price for a car that someone who bought it 5 years ago did.

Loyality rewards would be cool I guess

I think it's more asking for the same value for money as they give new players.

If I buy I get the new maps and Elite Specs.
If a new player buys for he same price they get a whole new game, full account.
Their new accounts get given 5 character slots so why not give the vets 5 character slots with the standard edition? It's a reasonable request, Getting the full game with the expansion new players would still be getting more for their money.

I just don't get what Anet is thinking. We need to buy the deluxe to get one new character slot when it would be fair to include 5 with the standard one.

I kinda of get what your saying but dont think it should be 5 slots.

For them they are unlocking the full game, which comes with 5 slots for the same price as a vet...who doesnt get anything special. They shouldve decoupled the 5 slots imo. We got a free slot for HoT...wtf Anet.

I'd settle for three seeing as a f2p player gets two slots, but needing to buy deluxe just to get one?

Because it's $30, which is cheap for an expansion. HoT included a slot but that's because it was a $50 expansion and players revolted. Buying HoT became buying "the game", hence why it granted previously free players the 5 slots. PoF isn't being treated the same way, hence the lower price tag.

Wouldn't getting PoF upgrade you from the F2P anyway and give you the full 5?

    The existing players got screwed.
    PoF is not the worst.

ArenaNet priced Heart of Thorns for $50.
Existing players didn't get any discount.

ArenaNet is saying "From now on, all expansions include everything in the past."
Then it changes its mind when PoF comes out.

Did folks complain in GW1 when the new games just gave you 2 slots instead of 5? I'm pretty sure I heard some.

HoT was overpriced, not sure why existing players would get a discount, no expansion does that. The argument of "hey, I bought the full game and now it's included" was hashed over, but really was just a small subset of players that bought the game at $10 to have it for when HoT came out. If they'd been told ahead of time, they probably wouldn't have.

Apparently they didn't actually say that.

Sad that Anet uses new expansion to make us buy more gemstore content... But its commercial, they need gold, I can understand...

The more underhanded thing Anet does that affects PvP and WvW players hard is locks Elite Specialisations behind expansions. I don't care much for the new maps but if I don't buy and the meta favours an ES that I don't have I'll be at a disadvantage. Pay2Win. If it wasn't they could make ES available to everyone. Then they nerf core abilities if they work too well with ES abilities. Like Chronomancers with Continuum Shift and Signet of Humility. Double Moa Mesmers. There was a huge outcry, people gave decent suggestions like making Continuum Shift only effect skills 1-9 leave 0, your ulti to cool down on it's own. Anet's decision, shorten the Moa duration. Result: Double Moa Mesmers still exist but core mesmers took a hit. They said, "Buy our expac or be at a disadvantage to those who do and we'll nerf your characters more than we'll nerf theirs if the ES becomes overpowered using core skills."

This on top of giving new players more value when buying the standard edition than they give existing player for the Ultimate. Considdering PoF when it goes on sale but not before. Might not even then. I don't play as much as I used to and don't really want to throw any money Anet's way just to stop the game I already paid for being obsolete.

So you basically want existing players to get the same value now that they also got when they purchased the game? If you've been playing since launch, you already got those character slots. Buying a completely new account now just brings you up to that baseline account value that an existing player already has.

You're basically saying "Hey, you gave that person $10 for joining the club! I want $10 too!" despite the fact that you already received that when you joined the 'club'.

They should have just given players who bought the core game a discount on the expansion packs. The game was like $60 when it came out and then another two expansions at $30 each.

Doesn't sit right knowing new players pay $30 for what you paid $90 for.

They were able to release expansion packs due to the original players who purchased the game, kept playing and spending money. Then the brand new player comes along and gets everything for 1/3rd what the original player paid.

HoT was $60 at launch too. If you bought all three expansions at their launch you paid $150.

This is the reality of selling just about anything. You buy at launch, they cost more. You wait for a sale, you pay less. It's been like this for video games for what must be around 30-40 years now and it's not going to change any time soon; complaining is stupid.
