A former GOP county chairman and Ohio farmer said Monday he wouldn't vote for President Trump again even if the president walked on water.

Chris Gibbs, the former chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party, told CNBC that he feels "dubious" about the Trump administration's announced agricultural buys from China amounting to $40 billion to $50 billion amid the heated trade war between Washington and Beijing that experts say has hit farmers particularly hard.

"He could come up with this $50 billion, he could walk across my pond and not get wet, and I’m still not going to vote for him because, you know, at the end of the day my name is Chris Gibbs, it’s not Judas, and I’m not going to sell my political moorings for 30 pieces of silver," Gibbs said.

The soybean and corn farmer voted for Trump in 2016 but said he's "out" when it comes to supporting Trump this time around.

The president announced Friday that China and the U.S. had agreed on a "phase one deal," in which China would commit to purchasing billions of dollars in agricultural products.

“I don’t believe it until [the crops are] on the boat. This is deja vu all over again,” Gibbs said, referring to the president's previous announcements that Mexico and the European Union would purchase large amounts of agriculture products.

Farmers have also been one of the hardest-hit blocs of voters in Trump’s trade standoff with China, which has retaliated with tariffs on American crops.

Yet, despite a flurry of national stories warning that farmers are moving away from Trump because of his trade policies, a recent Gallup survey showed that 53 percent of rural residents approve of the job the president is doing.

That includes Molesky ( farmer ), who didn’t support Trump in 2016. Molesky says he finds himself impressed by his effectiveness. “Even though I didn’t vote for him, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with a lot of the policies and a lot of the actions that he’s taken.”

Dwyer ( farmer ) voted for Trump and despite the uncertain climate, she says she’d vote for him again. Agriculture, she admits, has become “an easy target for retaliation. China knows that this is a big industry and commodity for the US, and so it’s an easy push button back. And it’s unfortunate. But I also don’t feel like I’m blaming the president for my situation,” she said.

Once a trade deal is worked out with China, the farmers as a whole will once again support him. Like most people, they are concerned about their livelihood. Which is understandable.

Yes, it's a shame Trump keeps pushing more and more taxes to hurt the farmers in this country. Why does Trump hate farmers and consumers so damn much?

Trump not only says you need an ID to buy groceries, again, but also Democrats are cheating in votes, again.

"You know, if you want to go out and buy groceries, you need identification. If you want to do almost anything you need identification. The only thing you don't need identification for is to vote, the most important single thing you're doing -- to vote," Trump said at a campaign rally in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Trump added: "You know why? Because they cheat like hell, that's why."

They've already been parroting that for years. Every time we have a voter ID thread here there's always at least 3-4 Trump supporters who bring up cigarettes, alcohol, or ID required when using a debit/credit card at the store. It's not new...and frankly it's a little tedious at this point.

They are all for it until you mention free ID for everyone because then suddenly it's too expensive.

Only rural resident? Barely above 50%? If you think that's good for Trump I don't want to know what you think bad is.

Of course it's expensive because providing a tax-payer funded voter identification card to everyone in the country would be Socialism. And we know how the voter suppression party feels about that.

Here's an excellent article showing how TDS has infiltrated the MSM...to the detriment of this country. We were told so many lies...how can we ever trust them again?

You mean the NY Post... owned by the very same guy who met with Trump's lackey just the other day?

    State-controlled media is bad.

The excerpt cited numerous facts and failures of the media....but feel free to ignore at your own peril.

I'm not sure using the NYPost of all things, while it's referencing a book authored by Kimberly Strassel of all people is the best way to get your point across...

Is there anything in that excerpt that's inaccurate of misrepresents reality? Or is this just your way of ignoring a host of facts that potentially threaten the bubble?

Give us two facts from that.

Because you claim the media is biased and can't be trusted, yet you post a biased article, from a biased author, published in a biased newspaper.

So tell us, what has the media done to go after Trump that they made up?

A devout Trumpster writing a book to defend Trump... go figure.

No one has cited anything in that excerpt that's inaccurate or misrepresents reality. Instead you all deflect. Long live the bubble!

She is putting quotes around whistleblower, as if it's some contrived partisan machination, not a process borne from federal law.
