And if its a disaster and his crew of actors fouls up the federal response, he'll blame it on how big it was, "No one has ever had to deal with a hurricane this big! We did an amazing job! I'm the best thing that ever happened to disaster relief!" And alternatively, if the US gets lucky and Dorian heads back out to sea, he'll use it to attack climate change, "We wasted all this money preparing for a hurricane that didn't even hit the coast! Fake Science!"
"For the present this country is headed in directions which can only carry ruin to it and will create a situation here dangerous to world peace. With few exceptions, the men who are running this Government are of a mentality that you and I cannot understand. Some of them are psychopathic cases and would ordinarily be receiving treatment somewhere. Others are exalted and in a frame of mind that knows no reason."
- U.S. Ambassador to Germany, George Messersmith, June 1933
Not entirely true. There originally were scenarios where the hurricane goes THROUGH Florida and veers north straight up into the southern part of Alabama. It is still somewhat possible. Katrina did something like this, except that it veered north past Alabama and past Mississippi and hit New Orleans instead. If the hurricane does not do its north turn in the Atlantic, which seems to have a non-zero percent chance of happening, then it could still hit Alabama pretty hard. If that happened, though, southern Florida would get DECIMATED first
If it makes it to the Gulf (going THROUGH Florida first), then it could pick up power again while over the Gulf, recovering what it loses going through Florida. This is how Katrina got so powerful when it hit New Orleans.
LOL.
OK, let's get down to the bottom of this.
Here's the hurricane:
Here's what Trump said, quoting from Redwyrm's post:
"We don't know where it's going to hit, seems to be going to Florida, now it should be going to Georgia, the Carolinas," he said. "Alabama to get a bit of a beat down. You'll be learning more probably over the course of the next 24 hours."
Here's Redwyrm's reaction:
"Does Trump not know where Alabama is on a map?!?"
Now look at the map. Yes, it seems that Trump knows where Alabama is on the map. Sure, Florida, Georgia, etc, are hit harder, but Alabama is close and the winds are touching it a bit.
So, what's the story?
I'll tell you what the story is. The media took the above phrase of Trump that talked on Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and also referenced Alabama "a bit", they took the Alabama piece, posted a projection that says that Alabama in particular does not need to do anything, because the effect is small - and then they started posting and reposting and retweeting this pretending that Trump said something ludicrously stupid. And folks in the thread bought it hook, line and sinker and started repeating it. Without looking at the map and seeing that what Trump said was completely fine.
That's what happened here. New bs story every day.

This, too. There are always different scenarios and they change over time. The picture above is one of them, there were (and are and will be) others.
No, it's not fine. That map doesn't show any population centers of Alabama being touched at all, and even then the only bit of Alabama touched by the storm is by maybe a minor tropical storm event which is really just a bad rain storm and doesn't require any preparation. For the President of the USA to reference it is to worry people for no reason. Trump gets no benefit of the doubt when peddling lies or stupidity despite you doing your best to cover for him. He didn't even know there was such a thing as Category 5 hurricanes (which he even referenced 2 years ago), that's stupid beyond belief. Stop trying to cover for an idiot.
Yeah I would probably think a new bs story every day too if my reading comprehension was that bad.
I looked this up and yes, the words on Category 5 were stupid. He probably got lost in the numbers a little, but he should have prepared better.
I am not covering for Trump, I am merely distrusting the media. 90% of what they post on Trump is BS - like this rolling of eyes on Alabama being mentioned. And 99% of the rest is not BS, but not worth being a story - like this mistake of cat 4 as cat 5. The media with their targeted hysterics is a far worse thing than Trump.
Oh you're not covering for Trump? Half your posts is stupid shit trying to explain what Trump really meant, which seems stupid considering that he's suck a "straight talker". If you dislike the media there are plenty of other erroneous stories to dig into, somehow it's only the ones where Trump is put in a bad light, you feel compelled to spin.
One more case of media hysteria of late related to nature were Amazon forest fires.
The fires are ignited every year as part of land use, their scale actually went down significantly over the years, but the media found a single month of a single province that was noticeably bigger than in the previous year and found this reason enough to be going crazy for weeks, posting story after story of nonsense.
As I say, every damn day.
