Why are you limiting this to the past few years? Again, he's been a player in Republican presidential politics for decades, dating back to Nixon.

You can't be a "nobody" and have connections to multiple presidents. That, by definition, makes you a "somebody".

President Donald Trump took aim at “Parasite’s” historic Oscar wins at a Colorado rally on Thursday.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” he asked, prompting jeers from the crowd. “Did you see it?”

“The winner is… a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about?” he went on. “We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give him best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know. Let’s get ‘Gone With the Wind.’ Can we get ‘Gone With the Wind’ back, please?”
Trump clearly has his priorities right. I'm surprised he didn't reference Birth of a Nation instead of Gone with the Wind.

Also, apparently doesn't understand how the Oscars work in his attempts to virtue signal to his base.

LOL. As if Trump has the attention span to watch friggin Gone with the Wind!

Mulvaney says U.S. is ‘desperate’ for more legal immigrants

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told a crowd at a private gathering in England on Wednesday night that the Trump administration “needs more immigrants” for the U.S. economy to continue growing, according to an audio recording of his remarks obtained by The Washington Post.

“We are desperate — desperate — for more people,” Mulvaney said. “We are running out of people to fuel the economic growth that we’ve had in our nation over the last four years. We need more immigrants.”

Mulvaney’s remarks appear in contrast to the public position of several top figures in Trump’s White House — especially that of senior policy adviser Stephen Miller — who have been working to slash both legal and illegal immigration via a slew of policies that aim to close off the U.S. border to foreigners. They have insisted that the steady arrival of newcomers depresses wages for the blue-collar U.S. workers whose votes helped lift Trump to the presidency in 2016.

    Hahahaha! Seriously? What an idiot.

Yes, because we all know how popular Trump is with the young people... wait, no... well, I mean, he's popular with minorities, who are becoming a larger part of the US population... wait, no, that's not true either... But of course, film and television media is becoming more conservative so they'd be sympathetic to Trump's platfor- wait, no, that's also not true in the slightest.

Who, precisely, do you think is going to be singing Trump's praises into the future? I think you vastly overestimate how much influence 4chan, reddit and facebook trolls will have on the foreseeable future.

I should thing Warren Harding thought the same.

We're surprised by the direction it took for the last 3-10 years, we only hope it doesn't get worse than it is, but folks will try and vote for Trump again so there's always that possibility.

The bizarre part is he cited two movies "of the type" he thought should come back: Gone with the Wind, a romanticized view of the South during the Civil War when slaves were docile and happy and rich plantation owners were just....yanno, misunderstood or something....

.....and Sunset Boulevard. A movie about a narcissist trying to recapture old glory that she never really had, and the weak failure of a man trying to manipulate her but also co-dependent on her. I wonder what Trump sees in this movie, which is admittedly a great film? Because it's a great film for how tragic and pathetic these characters are, but methinks Mssr. Trump doesn't think of it that way.

Nevermind that Billy Wilder, the director, wasn't American, and neither was the actor who played Max, one of the main three characters. Neither was Vivian Leigh (who played Scarlett O'Hara), Leslie Howard, or Olivia de Havilland, 3 of the 4 main actors in Gone with the Wind. It's just a bizarre two movies to couple together.

Did Trump ever have a pet chimp? Maybe that part appealed to him. Usually when somebody ignorant likes a great movie, its either by accident because they misunderstood part or all of it, or they're just playing along, and since all Trump ever seems to do is string words together I'd wager these are the movies he picked out of a hat and was capable of remembering and repeating.

It reminds me of how someone will claim to hate something, but will only name one most famous aspect of it, and say nothing that suggests they actually have any knowledge on the subject.

I'm only half shocked Trump didn't start talking in faux Chinese "ching chong, bing bong, wu fu," when he was describing the South Korean film.

    Great post in general.
As a German I want to specifically point that quote out.

Grenell does a REALLY BAD job here. As bad as you made it sound... it is even worse. Deeply disliked is an understatement imo

For once, he basically was no ambassador. He does not know what an ambassador is and never did any effort to learn what his job is supposed to be. Instead he pushed Trump propaganda on us and thought he can decide how we handle stuff. Even stuff completely unrelated to the US...

    Edit
Our politicians completely stopped talking to him because it was just like when you try to argue with a Trump cultist about facts.

Imagine going to visit on someone's house shitting on the carpet and pissing on the wife then complaining about how horrible the house smells and you have Richard Grenell.

I guess you don't understand German, and I won't translate that for you now.
Short list around middle of the page:
    * He publicly said our companies should stop business with Iran... that was basically the first thing he did. Not his fucking business.
    * He threatened with sanctions about Nordstream 2
    * He threatened us if we would cooperate with Huawei for 5G... (while I agree with that, diplomacy seems not to be his strength...)

    or just google yourself

    And to add:
He basically promoted and congratulated the rise of the AFD. This is an absolute no-go. He is NOT supposed to meddle with our political parties.
