The problem is that younger democrats see compromise as Democrats being a House Cat. That's silly. Compromise is foundational to his country. Younger Democrats hostility to compromise is irrelevant. It is a sign of political immaturity. They'll be forced to compromise or get nothing. They will come to realize then when they, well, get nothing. They share this country with a larger percentage of the population which is not on their side.
The messaging mistake younger Democrats make is they think waving the proverbial flag means something. I actually had this debate with a friend of mine who is super-duper woke Democrat a few months ago. I put towards him that Republicans say almost nothing about how they'd use power when they'd run for office (besides the typical boilerplate issues like abortion and government in your lives). What they do is take power by any means necessary AND THEN decide how to use power. I contrasted it against Democrats laying out 420 point plans. This is a discussion I've had on this forum here before too.
He said he basically would not accept Democrats who don't broadcast their beliefs. It really is a pride issue. They want to be seen. They want recognition. They want to feel righteousness. I kept thinking "and Moscow Mitch will bend you over a barrel and stick that righteousness right where the sun don't shine, because he has no time for such facile nonsense."
Younger Democrats are political romantics. Older ones aren't. By contrast Republicans are political chamelons of the first order. They're not romantics. They're opportunists. Recall what I said about Republicans and Obamacare repeal - very few of them ACTUALLY wanted that to happen. They never bothered to come up with a plan. But they knew it was an issue that got the base riled up and got donors writing checks. So they ran on it but never acted on it. It brought them political power, almost singularly. But when the time came to do it Mitch McConnell put zero effort into seeing it through. Full repeal then skinny repeal. Then that vote failed and Mitch said "well it had it's shot, and we're not going to waste time giving it another" in so many words. Because he didn't care. He had ridden that horse as far as it could go, so it shot it dead.
In short the mistake younger democrats make is mistaking the importance and morality they see in the issues they hold dear as a tool. Well no... it' a justification. But everyone alive thinks their personal politics and personal priorities are the best and most important. The only relevant tools are whatever makes more people switch to your side. And fear and issues of the heart work a lot better than positive reasons and issues of the head. Democrats are foolish to give Americans too much credit.

Hold onto your butts -
They've already started pulling off ER docs in Washington state from their normal duties to help do roadside screenings. They've also already started discussing triage measures...
That means they expect to be implementing the same measures Italy has in the not too distant future. So people over 65 will not get treated in order to ration supplies and equipment for younger aged people who have a higher chance of being saved and more life years left to live. Anyone over 65 will have to either die or recover on their own. Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Do the local Trumphadis all know that social distancing is a physical world thing and Coronavirus can't be spread over the internet?
It's notable that yet again, here we are in Episode #431 of Donald Trump failing to be President (this time in the biggest crisis since 2008) and yet again, they activate their cloaking devices.
I never would have thought that there truly existed Americans so... petty... as to truly get riled and all "own the libz" up about things like SJW's saying stupid things on Twitter, but without comment when something on this magnitude - an unprecedented shutdown of the United States of America - happens. There truly is no limit to how far they'll follow Trump eh?
No guts. No honor. Oh well, maybe when their grandmothers are in the ICU on a ventilator they can hug their goddamn guns and memes for comfort from the other side of a protective isolation plastic. Because that is the future that awaits many of us, because Donald Trump's failure of leadership.
Don't worry, I'm sure that there'll be some rag headline about Biden's aid's cousin's roommate having attended a benefit that was also attended by a former liaison of some Russian Oligarch back in 2015, and they'll all show up to bark "HYPOCRITES! HYPOCRITES! UKRAINE!" at Biden and the liberals for 5 pages before promptly disappearing again.
Then the Russian Shalks shills will come in saying we can't really know anything about Trump's connections with Russia, and even if we could know anything we can't know if it's illegal, and even if we could know it's illegal we can't know that he can be punished, and even if we could know he can be punished we can't know if it'd be enforced, and even if we could know it can be enforced we can't know if... and so on.
But, as you rightly assess, at no point will Trump's utter bungling of this situation be mentioned. It's a tiresome dance, sometimes.
“Do not lose time on daily trivialities. Do not dwell on petty detail. For all of these things melt away and drift apart within the obscure traffic of time. Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead.” ~ Emily3, World of Tomorrow
Words to live by.
The way you phrased all of this legitimately got a laugh out of me. Especially the 2nd paragraph You're absolutely right. There is a certain resigned amazement at this point that such people actually exist.
If Galactus appeared over New York, I'd have half a mind to ask him if he wanted some wine with his impending feast. This is the stupidest timeline.
There is a line from the declaration that I'd like to focus on:
No, that's not it, hold on...It’s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine
Whoa! Even got the disease wrong on that one. Let's keep looking...Trump, who has sought to downplay the coronavirus risk, during a press conference in India Tuesday appeared to claim that the United States was “very close” on a coronavirus vaccine. However, Republican and Democratic senators after the briefing said a vaccine, under the best scenario, was at least a year to 18 months away. The White House later said the president was referring to the Ebola vaccine, which the FDA approved two months ago.
No...We think we have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. And those people are all recuperating successfully. But we’re working very closely with China and other countries, and we think it’s going to have a very good ending for it. So that I can assure you.
No...Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China. … We can’t have thousands of people coming in who may have this problem, the coronavirus. So we’re gonna see what happens, but we did shut it down, yes
HAHAHAHAHA had the best DOW jump in history and is still in 2017 numbers! Still not it...The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. … Stock Market starting to look very good to me!
No...April Lol
No...What do you mean, bankrupt?
That was Feb 26th, by the way. Are we down close to zero yet?Because of all we’ve done, the risk to the American people remains very low. … When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. That’s a pretty good job we’ve done.
Hey, has anyone found the "heat" he's talking about? Still no? Thought so.I think it’s really going well. We did something very fortunate: we closed up to certain areas of the world very, very early — far earlier than we were supposed to. I took a lot of heat for doing it. It turned out to be the right move, and we only have 15 people and they are getting better, and hopefully they’re all better. There’s one who is quite sick, but maybe he’s gonna be fine. … We’re prepared for the worst, but we think we’re going to be very fortunate.
No...Grab them by the pussy
No..Your $130,000 is on the table
Whew! Finally!I want to thank Google. Google is helping to develop a website that’s going to be very quickly done, unlike websites of the past, to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location
By the way, that bolded, Trump probably should have been more careful with that dig at Obama. Because, erm, about that...
Yeah, I'm not sure both "very quickly done" and "early stages of development" go in the same sentence. Barring the common fruit fly, Fallout 76, and other things found in dogshit. And when Google directly refutes Trump after Trump speaks, well, I know which of the two I trust more.We are developing a tool to help triage individuals for Covid-19 testing. Verily is in the early stages of development, and planning to roll testing out in the Bay Area, with the hope of expanding more broadly over time.
EDIT: Well gee, I need to hit "refresh" before "send". Trump said Google had 1,700 engineers on it. That's interesting. Verily has 1,000 employees. Total. They have 1,700 applicants, but they're not working on it. That's what "applicant" means.

North Korea released a Christmas gift for the US, which killed thousands of Chinese.
...yeah, no.

Their grandmothers won't be in an ICU and won't be on ventilators because both of those will be reserved for people under the age of 65, and if later on it gets really ugly for those under 40. Their grandmothers are going to be left on trolleys in full corridors in overloaded hospitals to either make it on their own or die. That's the future that's coming.
No blaming of the Chinese or Mexicans or whatever todays daily hate is, in order to make themselves feel better will change that outcome.
There was a chance, a possibility, of preventing that future via a coordinated global response early on to prevent this viruses spread. Hillary Clinton might have been able to do it. It wouldn't have been guaranteed but it would have been a real possibility. The joke of a president and his cronies occupying the whitehouse? Fidget spinners would have been more useful.

Well, I believe Typhoid Mary was Typhoid Mary incarnate. I think you mean Trump is Typhoid Mary reincarnated.

I went so far past outrage on that story that all I can focus on is the sign in the bottom left of the picture that says "No Photos".

Don't worry, they'll be back when either: The Stock market hobbles its way back up, They find a poll from sometime late last month that shows people approve of the job Trump's doing, or Trump is finally made to sign something that might help people and will bitch about 'The Rabid, Deranged Libtards' not giving Trump a fair shake for doing something.

In some decent news, A Federal Judge Blocks Trump's Plan to Cut Food Stamps.
Pretty much citing the pandemic as the reason, with very polite legal speak that boils down to 'What kind of evil son of a bitch tries cutting social services in the middle of a Pandemic?'
Well the good news is Trump is actually working on it. Just this week his administration passed a new rule to kick hundreds of thousands of poor people off food aid! That'll surely help something.
(Fortunately a federal judge has ruled against him.)
Glad they've got their priorities right. Kick the poor while they're down, hand all the wealth to the corporations.“Especially now, as a global pandemic poses widespread health risks, guaranteeing that government officials at both the federal and state levels have flexibility to address the nutritional needs of residents and ensure their well-being through programs like SNAP, is essential,”
While you live, shine / Have no grief at all / Life exists only for a short while / And time demands its toll.
He literally did that yesterday with regards to spending.
If you're asking if he'll misuse the spending powers, for example for Wall funds by claiming the Wall will stop the coronavirus, I'd say fairly unlikely. He was already forced to give an address at political gunpoint.
If you're asking if he'll take other methods, such as blocking state-to-state travel, he already said he's considering it.
If you're asking if he'll cancel or postpone the election, I still think a member of the Secret Service would just shoot him when he tries to appoint himself dictator.
I guess, by the way, if you want to know where those National Emergency moneys are going, just ask the stock market. It sure sounds like people think Trump will use them to bail out corporations who are losing money.
Help for individuals is coming in the 363-40 voted House bill that includes things like sick leave and taxpayer-covered testing.

The address -- the one where swollen-eyed Trump lied multiple times to the camera -- was a wake-up call. For Trump.
Remember, the Republican Party is now the Party of Trump. For them to confront him like that, when they let pretty much everything else from NK and Iran to literal torch-carrying Nazis marching in the streets go, is significant. I disagree with many Republican policies, but they don't want one hundred sixty-three thousand, five hundred Americans dying for no reason. On this issue, there is no bias and there is no partisan. Trump was ignoring the issue, threatening to damage America from his willful ignorance and inaction. The GOP wasn't having that. If Trump tries to intentionally damage or misdirect the efforts beyond an accepted "margin of fatass", they'll turn on him in public. And they told Trump to his fat orange swollen face.
We've found the GOP's breaking point. It's Americans dying to the plague in the streets in the tens of thousands.

Remember that "US Army brought coronavirus to China" conspiracy theory China's government floated? Well, the US isn't having that. The envoy just got summoned to have a nice little chat about it.
"Apologize," the chat won't go but I'm pretending it will, "or we'll make you shake hands with Trump."
Also, I'd like to get in front of the US buying a bunch of oil. I'm not a huge fan of what feels like Trump propping up the oil industry, especially since "everyone" is working from home now. But I'm leaning towards that being a side effect, and anyone else would have done the same thing, rather than it being abuse of power.
