Within hours of Trump signing the bill McConnell handed him, McConnell suddenly remembered the deficit exists and backed away from Phase Four.
In other words, I 100% called it. The Democrats would never have gotten what they wanted, if they hadn't held the line and insisted that PPP and hospitals got what they needed as more money went out to businesses as well.
Sorry, state governments. McConnell says you're on your own.

Trump's immigration block is a sixty-day block of green cards for immigrants who are looking for permanent residency.
"So, he's blocking work visas?"By pausing immigration, we will help unemployed Americans be first in line for jobs as America reopens. So important.
It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American worker, take care of the American worker
No. But to be fair, the strain on the system and border closures, plus the generally inhospitable place the US has become, has slowed that to a crawl anyhow. Click the link for a full list of services slowed or outright stopped.
"But this isn't about keeping Americans safe from the virus, only keeping the job they got fired from free for sixty days?"
Yes. Which honestly, makes a lot more sense than what Trump said earlier.
"Well it's a good thing he talked to members of...you're going to inter--"
"Well since Trump is so keen on protecting American workers who got fired, has he brought back the people from Mar-a-Lago he got rid of?"Trump's announcement, first previewed in a vague tweet on Monday night, caught many administration officials, members of Congress and immigration restrictionists by surprise.
Top House and Senate leaders, both Democrat and Republican, told Axios the first they heard of the planned order was from Trump’s tweet. Their offices scrambled Tuesday to get more information.
"We should've been made aware of this, but we weren't," a senior GOP congressional aide told Axios. "None of us got a heads up."
I don't think so.
"Has he suggested protecting American workers with better health care?"
No.
"Has he suggested protecting American workers with a better minimum wage?"
No.
"Honestly, this doesn't sound all that bad."
No. Trump suggested something far more strict than he actually did. It's possible the people he should have consulted but didn't talked him off that ledge. Or it's possible, like with states, he was told he didn't have that authority. In any event, it's still a weak defense for this nationalist move, but he's done far worse.
Plus all those immigrants get to watch the next sixty days and the US death count. They might say "Whew, dodged a green bullet there."

Former CDC head Redfield says the second wave could be worse.
"Ah, so he's talking about in winter, not the prot--"“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” CDC Director Robert Redfield told the Washington Post in an interview.
“We’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” he said, and the combination would put even greater strain on the nation’s healthcare system than the first outbreak.
Redfield and other public health authorities credit drastic stay-at-home orders and widespread business and school closings across the country for slowing the spread of infections. But the restrictions have also stifled American commerce while throwing at least 22 million people out of work over the past four weeks.
Even as the lockdown is gradually eased, Redfield stressed the importance of individuals continuing to practice social distancing among one another.
At the same time, he said, public health authorities must vastly ramp up a testing system to identify those who are infected and to locate their close personal interactions through contact tracing.
"God dammit. Why are all these highly qualified medical experts saying it's a bad idea? Haven't they listened to the crowd of high-school anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorists who are shouting?"Asked about the recent flurry of street protests of stay-at-home orders and calls for states to be “liberated” from such restrictions - as President Donald Trump has advocated on Twitter - Redfield told the Post: “It’s not helpful.”
remember when Obama bailouts were bad, when too big to fail was evil, when govt ownership was the devils work? When TARP was an 4 letter word that was not allowed to come out of childrens mouths!

Barr says that states may have gone too far, because saving people's lives is stalling the economy.
Oh, and he likened a stay-at-home order to house arrest.
Barr appears to be laying the groundwork for Trump's "total authority", claiming that states don't have the right to enforce life-saving measures during a lethal virus outbreak if it means oil prices drop too far. This could be the signal for a nasty upcoming battle about whether lives or money is more important.Barr said the restrictions, such as shutting down businesses and requiring people to stay home, are intrusions on civil liberties that may be justified under the broad police powers states have to protect public health. But he said governors may go too far and interfere with interstate commerce, which is the domain of the federal government.
