I don't think that 3000+ total is correct; I think it's just a matter of them not updating frequently enough for the deaths/cases the day before to be included on the actual day they happened.

Yeah, like I said, the weekly trend is still going up. Daily totals are a bit misleading (partially because reporting is still a bit sporadic in some places and some totals only get updated once a day), so I usually just look at the graph as a whole rather than daily slices.

It raises the question: how difficult a choice must this be, that the doctors are saying "well, he's intentionally spreading misinformation that might get people hurt or killed, but I really want that job". Is it the Mattis thing, are they sticking around to make the damage less bad? Because you'd think anyone with actual ethics would just flat-out say "Mr. Trump, that's not true".

I imagine it must be a delicate balancing act. You can't be sure the person Trump would hire after firing you would have any morals, so you have to massage his dementia-riddled ego while trying to get as much factual information out as you can.
