Welp 180 million workers are about to be screwed over by Trump and their employers for liability when it comes to workers safety.

This will start the ball rolling on blanket immunity for businesses.
On top of the fact today republican run states are starting to say "if you refuse to go back to work you get no unemployment, no matter how unsafe it is...."

    https://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...virus-outbreak

The White House plans to work with the Labor Department to “provide safety standards and guidance for workers to make sure they are kept safe and not put in harm’s way as they serve the public,” the official said.

The White House decided to issue the order, the details of which were first reported by Bloomberg News, following estimates that meat production capacity nationwide could be reduced by as much as 80 percent.

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office earlier Tuesday that he planned to sign an executive order to address “liability problems” related to the food supply chain and specifically mentioned Tyson Foods. The order will apply to all meat processing plants in the U.S.

“We’re going to sign an executive order today I believe, and that will solve any liability problems, and they had certain liability problems.”

Still, Trump insisted Tuesday there was plenty of food in supply but said distribution was a concern and that Tyson was facing a “very unique circumstance because of liability.”

So...does this come with additional funding for worker safety? Federal oversight to ensure that employers are abiding by best safety practices to ensure that meat isn't contaminated?

Or is this just to ensure that Trump can get his quarter pounders with cheese while the slaughterhouses and processing plants are freed from legal liability in case their employees are forced to come into work sick and contaminate thousands of pounds of meat?

my bet, since this administration is lazy and bad at their jobs they will just structure something like airlines max liability caps with a much lower amount....

its going to have so many legal challenges it won't stick for more than a week

MASKS? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN MASKS!

Not much going on, just Vice President Mike Pence visiting coronavirus patients and staff caring for them at the Mayo Clinic. Without a mask.

Conspicuously, the only person in the image without one.

In a since-deleted tweet, the Mayo Clinic called out the veep, saying it “had informed @VP of the masking policy prior to his arrival today.”
It's not as if the Mayo Clinic didn't tell him about their mask policy, not that they'd need to because at this point we've had every medical professional for the past few months telling us to wear masks.

We could only be so fortunate that he contracts the virus with his reckless behavior to send a message to the knuckle draggers out there. Not to wish him death or serious harm, I'd hope he recovers well, but just to remind people that stupidity and arrogance isn't an effective protection against the virus.

Pence is clearly a 2nd or 3rd Edition player. He thinks paladins are immune to disease.

I'm not sure which is worse, that I know exactly what you are talking about, or that I want to check my 5th Edition books to see if they no longer become immune to disease.

Checked... immune to disease by level 3.

If luck wills it, it might get caught by multiple people in the administration. Sadly if everyone else wears a masks they are protecting him from it as that's the main purpose of a mask not protection of self but protection of others.

The only thing Trump fears more than Biden, is a Bacon Shortage afterall!

Trump to Order U.S. Meat Plants to Stay Open Amid Pandemic

When I said the Republican Party was dedicated to killing workers, I wasn’t kidding. And of course, it’s when people’s access to endless meat is threatened that Republicans act to force people to work, rather than, say, massive mask or ventilator production efforts.

The liability limitation executive order, the legality of which I am unclear of. This is a naked attempt to decimate labor protections and ease in a new era where employers have zero legal responsibility for their workers, a la, the Lochner-Triangle era.

    Well dammit! He should!
Bacon shortage = no votes for you!

On a more serious note...food banks are closing up...things are going to get ugly if food supplies get scarce.

Oh I was going to post earlier but forgot. Now this could go into the COVID-19 megathread but I will post here.

Yeah so Tyson foods had a full page article in the NYT about their supply chain is about to be decimated and so has other meat producers worried, along with food in general.

So yeah this is big. Idk if putting a full page ad is what we need. My god we have/had idiots who bought up all the toilet paper. So yes, I understand why they are yelling at top volume but I hope we deal with this as low key as possible. A run and panic on food would be horrible, with along us actually not having food to go to grocery stores.

I watched the question live and I can honestly say it was a horrible question the way she put stated it. It was too much of a statement of "you have blood on your hands, compared to this event". She could have gone with the vanilla "Why did you ignore briefings in January February" or all the other screw ups Trump has done. Now, shockingly Trump didn't go off and pout and cry "fake news", he tried to answer the best he could. Of course his answer was some horse crap, but he was restrained.

Is there federal protection coming? Like, extra medical supplies, federal medical oversight, anything besides "You can't sue them"?

It's at the point where I'm not even clicking on the link, I am pretty sure I know the answer.

But the thing is, do we need immediate action?

Oh yeah, there is no doubt w/o precautions this is a reckless way to spread the virus. I mean would they have to like spray each outer package before shipping and handling of raw meat, however it is cleaned now, does that kill the virus?

Glad we're hitting on the important stuff, I was just about to chime in too, since my paladin just hit 3rd level.

Anyone else think it's kinda suspicious that all these red states are opening on May 1. International workers day. May day. Something about about laborers striking for better working conditions, an 8 hour work day, and other things we take for granted now like that. Chicago if I recall.

May 1st. Get back to work, you're fired if you don't come back because of our lack of safety, and in a few days we can't be sued because of it. None of that socialist bullshit here.

    Grats.

Personally, I'm liking the 5th Edition. 4th was garbage, so I've been playing 3.5 and 3 for about 20 years.

Now I just need to figure out what monster Trump would be.

I didn't watch live, because I'm done giving that shithead any more of my time than I absolutely have to, but I agree about this question. Giving him and his base a legit reason to cry "gotcha question!" gives them more leeway to cry about it after "real" questions.

There were a lot of things I liked about 4th, but I can't ever see myself going back.
