Rural area's could only have a couple dozen cases and it will completely overwhelm their ability to handle it.
There are huge swaths of this country that have no ICU beds within reasonable distance.

For example those Rural area's in Nebraska, are all going to have to send their cases to the big city districts which will already be overwhelmed by their own volume

p.s let me know when the flu has the possibility of killing 100k people in this country with most of the population locked down and participating in massive mitigation efforts on a personal level.

P.s.s. btw most of this country also qualifies as having underlying health conditions that will make them a high risk patient.

So we've covered all the news about the projected 3K deaths per day, but I was reading an article on it and found a few interesting tidbits -

A new government report projects covid-19 cases will surge to about 200,000 per day by June 1
Missed this, but 200K per day? Holy fucking shit. More importantly though -

White House officials have been relying on other models to make decisions on reopening, including the IHME model and a “cubic model” prepared by the Council of Economic Advisers, led by Trump adviser Kevin Hassett.

People with knowledge of the “cubic model” say it currently shows deaths dropping precipitously in May — and essentially going to zero by May 15.
What the fuck is the "cubic model" and why is it really bad coronavirus fan-fiction?

I honestly don't think you understand what a 1% death rate means. You look at that number and brush it aside, regardless of the actual amount, because it's a one, and to you that means "hardly anything" - when in fact it's more than anything else, ever.

Dear God, of all the time I wanted Trump to actually be right and the experts wrong, this tops the list.

Assuming the death toll gradually works up to 3,000 by June 1, the difference between the status quo, and this article, is the population of Hackensack NJ.

    What's going on?

Not much, just Ammon Bundy (remember, one of the domestic terrorists that took over a federal building and had an armed standoff with federal authorities for weeks?) has thoughts.

His first thought: Really, it's the Jews fault that they were starved, put into slavery, and killed during the Holocaust. They could have fought back.

His second thought: Keeping Idaho closed so that he can't get his Applebee's is basically the same kind of treatment that the Jews suffered during the Holocaust, and he's not gonna take it like the Jews totes did.

I swear, with every passing day I'm almost hoping one of these Y'all Queda nutters does something dumb and gets the serious attention of federal authorities who drop the hammer on them. These cosplay militants (because really, that's what most of them are) are just whipping a bunch of vulnerable and easily duped people into a frenzy.

    Fuck off.

    No seriously, fuck off.

Us liberals aren't so invested in Trump's downfall that we'd tank the economy to make him look bad. It's our country too, we live here and we're interested in its welfare as is anyone else who lives here.

I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit about how "oh the liberals want to destroy America!" "It's a plot to destroy Trump!" No. It fucking isn't.

You ever listen to Bundyville? I would recommend it if you haven't. Both seasons.

Helps understand how insidious this all is.

In any decent country, showing up armed and with intent to cause harm (even if the LARPERS dont have the balls, thankfully, to actually pull the trigger) would get you arrested/shot down on the spot.

I'm not sure if anyone posted this between here or the actual coronavirus thread so I apologize if this is a repeat. So there was a 1905 US Supreme Court ruling (Jacobson v. Massachusetts) dealing with smallpox that pretty much gave the states the right to handle things the way they want in the wake of an epidemic. The person here was saying that he didn't have to take a small pox vaccination after the epidemic swept through Boston in 1901-1903. Supreme Court ruled as followed:

Harlan ruled that personal liberties could be suspended when "the safety of the general public may demand" for example during a smallpox outbreak. He compared the smallpox outbreak to the American Civil War (in which three out of nine Justices at the term served) by saying that a community has the right to protect itself from both disease and military invasion.[6]

It seems to be that we already have precedent set that the shelter-in-place rules are not unconstitutional and have already been covered by the Supreme Court.

What is up with the constant comparisons with the lockdowns and the Holocaust.

Jews were rounded up and shot or put on trains and thrown in gas chambers or worked to death and work camps
Americans during the COVID19 epidemic are . . . watching netflix, staying home and maybe going outside now and then for essentials.

There's literally NO similarities between the two. At all.

It's absolutely fucking frustrating that this entire situation's been made so much worse because of a single person's lack of foresight, unwillingness to read, and inability to take responsibility. If the CDC is correct in its modelling of 200K new cases per day by the end of the month, and I see no reason why they should'n't be, its easily going to pass a quarter of a million dead and almost certainly pass half a million.

Because people have no actual point of personal reference and apparently lack both an imagination and emotional empathy.

Jews couldn't go to Applebee's or get their cut and color during the holocaust, conservatives can't go to Applebee's or get their cut and color during the shelter-in-place order.

And she's a good friend of Trump.

I'm also pretty sure it wasn't the Jewish people holding signs supporting Auschwitz.

The 200K per day is the important number. Nothing else matters compared to that one. Now take that number and extrapolate out how many are dying per day three weeks later. We are talking of a disaster of almost epic proportions.

Man, remember back when the US and Iran were trading missiles? And when Iran hit a US base which led to soldiers suffering from "headaches"?

Well, apparently they hand out Purple Hearts for headaches now, because 29 soldiers received them.

Wait...200k per day new cases? Per DAY?

Wouldn't that mean that we'd see a lot more deaths per day as well?
