Of course, the optics should be damning. Everyone since, and including, Nixon gave up their tax returns without question. Trump is hiding his all the way to the Supreme Court -- while also doing other things like using campaign funds to pay a prostitute, insisting that US military and foreign officials stay at his hotels (plus the hotel near the FBI office) and hiding which businesses get PPP funds. This is why you're supposed to show your taxes, and Trump is the best example ever.
Given the complicated nature of multiple agencies/states/entities/governments and their requests for what turns out to be easily obtainable information, I would be surprised if the court comes down with "absolute immunity". However, you're right that the ruling could dive into the nitty gritty of the details of the various cases, and then it becomes complicated.

One shining light in this is NYST. If they even remotely get the green light to submit documents to the House, they will do it, in a heartbeat.

The worst thing SCOTUS could do is remand for any kind of retrial or review by an appellate court. That would push any release past the Nov election, and be a yuge win for Trump.

I've been, understandably, I think, very low-energy the past few days so there's no way I can stay up for the daily COVID-19 totals, but there are a few things of note I can bring to your collective attention:

The US has passed 120k COVID-19 deaths today.
Florida is currently reporting more than 3.2k new cases today, setting yet another record. @Breccia has been keeping everyone up to date in my absence, but there really are a LOT of Southern/Midwest states that are seeing sustained daily surges that can't be explained away by "increased testing" as Trump and Pence suggest.

I'm still crossing my fingers that the recently tested drug that escapes my memory helps keep the death toll down since it's shown a lot of promise for hospitalized patients, but all of this is a reminder to you--and to this TRUMP SHITSHOW administration--that we are far from out of the woods with this.

I know this got overshadowed by the Trump campaign deciding to be overt Nazis but I want to point out to the NeverBiden crowd that if Trump gets to replace RBG then DACA is gone.

ICU beds in short supply across Florida as state struggles with coronavirus spike

Less than a quarter of hospital beds for intensive care patients are now available in Florida as the state grapples with a spike in coronavirus cases, data out of Tallahassee revealed on Thursday.

There were 1,371 adult ICU spots available out of 6,057 statewide, which is about 22.6 percent, the Agency for Health Care Administration showed in an update posted at 1:46 p.m. ET.

That troublingly low figure includes data from Broward County, Florida's second largest, which had just 20.9 percent of ICU beds ready at that time.
Hillsborough County, the state's fourth most populous county, had only 20.2 percent available.

According to the same data, 26 hospitals throughout Florida had no available ICU capacity. Miami-Dade, the state's most populous county, had three hospitals with 0 percent availability.

    Something something, "Safety first"?

On topic: the latest poll has Biden leading Trump by 12. up from +8 a month ago. Apparently, the 56% who disapprove of anything within three degrees of "photo op" isn't helping.

"Which...not falling for that. I mouseover'd the link, that's FOX News."

Indeed. And a month ago, Trump said things like

FoxNews should fire their Fake Pollster. Never had a good Fox Poll!
    and

Why doesn’t FoxNews put up the CNBC POLL or the (believe it or not!) CNN Poll? Hope Roger A is looking down and watching what has happened to this once beautiful creation!
FoxNews is doing nothing to help Republicans, and me, get re-elected on November 3rd
    and

They repeat the worst of the Democrat speaking points, and lies. All of the good is totally nullified, and more. Net Result = BAD! CNN & MSDNC are all in for the Do Nothing Democrats! Fox WAS Great!
    and

"Hold on. You can stop going back and linking his tweets from multiple, different polls."

Um...those are all from the same above-mentioned poll. That, yes, this new one is worse than.

    "Has he seen it yet?"

Probably not. Go ahead and look, but he's spent the last hour naming all of the grants he's giving to each individual state's DOT, listed by project. No, really, there's going to be well over 50 tweets before he's done. It seems like he's giving up on Infrastructure Week and just putting "Infrastructure Accomplished!" on things the Department of Transportation was supposed to do anyway. I mean, best of my knowledge, Congress didn't pass a special or new budget for DoT yet. And even if each of the 50 states got the $80 I saw for Texas, $4 billion, that's less than one-half of one percent of what he was asking for.

But he'll see it. He'll get around to watching TV eventually, this is Trump we're talking about. The Vegas over/under is three tweets and 45 ALL CAPS characters.

(One of the) assistant Secretaries of State Taylor resigns in protest of Trump's failure at race relations.

"Wait, the last one you linked that resigned didn't specify, and you just assumed. How can we --"

Moments of upheaval can change you, shift the trajectory of your life, and mold your character. The President’s comments and actions surrounding racial injustice and Black Americans cut sharply against my core values and convictions.

I must follow the dictates of my conscience and resign as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs

    So, basically, you're Tulsa?

On topic: the Air Force IG is opening an investigation into whether illegal aircraft surveillance was used on protestors.

Following discussions with the secretary of Defense about shared concerns, the secretary of the Air Force is conducting an investigation into the use of Air National Guard RC-26 aircraft to support civil authorities during recent protest activity in U.S. cities,
And, in an advance copy of next week's news, Trump fires Air Force IG.
