Florida just listed 15,299 new cases. That's a lovely new record.

What a PoS. First he is nothing but a sociopath, where everything is a transaction. Trying to sell land where Puerto Ricans hold US citizenship is disgusting. Let alone trying to bail on people who were just hit with a hurricane.

I'm sorry we have to go here but most Trumpkins won't give a crap. We know why. For further references he wanted Greenland but not Puerto Rico. Hmm, I wonder.

So....Florida is reporting just over 15k new cases today. That's about 3.5k more than New York's highest ever.

And they are reporting 45 deaths.

    Fuck Florida.

Truly sad thing is Sunday and Monday are supposed to be the low days, due to lower testing etc.

So next week could be interesting.

Was coming here to post this.

    On a Sunday.

Came into work this morning. Talk to my prep guy via text about how the day went yesterday. He said the owner was in the hospital with Covid. His son and the 5 buddies staying at his house that work at the restaurant called in and are isolating.

I received no call. No text. Nothing about how I was at risk. I’m sure they did this on purpose knowing I would have stayed home today if that was the case. I’m fuming.

This is Florida folks. And it’s a shit show.

DeVoss on CNN: "Kids must go back to class full time." But won't that spread Covid? "Locals can decide." But some decided on remote learning. "We'll withhold funding." But CDC requires 6ft distance. Not enough space in class. How? "They must all go full time." No plan.

    What a horse shit statement.

Locals can decide? Aren't Betsy and Trump threatening to withhold funding. So not a choice if you hold funding over their head.

Listen we know this is some moronic policy Trump did on a whim. No thought, just threats.

They can threaten to withhold funding, but what they can't actually do is withhold funding.

    So let's talk about fucked.

    It's Florida.

The number, which everyone here posted before I could because someone couldn't put the Starbucks drink on the correct shelf (it was me), brings some pretty terrifying implications with it. I'll try to tune these numbers optimistic.

As posted, today's case count is 15,299 and New York's highest appears to be 11,571 on April 14th. Let's assume they're both accurate. That means Florida is now 32% higher than New York's highest.

    Now for the napkin math.
    1) Let's assume this is the worst Florida sees, and these cases cause a rapid clampdown of Cuomo-like proportions, driving the numbers down just as rapidly.
    2) I don't believe the deaths Florida is reporting and neither do you. But it is later in the cycle, and medical professionals -- who by now are probably ignoring DeSantis and doing what needs to be done to save lives -- have better information and treatment options now, thanks to NYC if nowhere else. Let's also bear in mind that ain't no city like New York City in terms of how many people are packed that densely, not even Miami, and that should help. Near as I can tell, the total deaths per capita in NY is eight times what Florida is reporting. Let's pretend that's true.
    3) New York has had about 24,000 deaths past their peak non-correction death date of April 8th. NYC was hit hard and fast, the cases jumped up and slowwwwwwly came down.

With all that in mind...Florida can expect another 4,000 deaths.

If they take this seriously and lock down, like NYState did.

If that death comparison is anywhere close to true.

And if today is the turn-around point, the pinacle of Mt. Fuck This State and it's all downhill from here.

I don't believe any of those will be true. But Florida has reported 4,000 deaths already, and even by these excessively generous metrics, they're only at halftime.

Together we can turn this thing around in just two to three weeks if everyone does their part, more studies coming out showing the effectiveness of face coverings
    -- the Surgeon General, today

By contrast, this Florida site and this Florida site have some...um...less flattering things to say.

    1) Florida is gagging the stats on hospitalizations of people with COVID-19, if they come in because of other symptoms...even if those symptoms align with a COVID-19 attack.

    2) And even with that coverup, the numbers are still really bad.

    3) A group of Florida doctors as recently as literally yesterday is demanding a mask mandate.

    4) Dr. Fauci went live and on the air and said central Florida jumped over a couple of checkpoints. Yes, the nation's leading expert and a Trump employee is calling out Florida, specifically, as having fucked up.

    5) A State Rep was fighting seven local mask mandates in court. He lost, by the way. But his legal argument was "the counties with mask mandates had the same hospital numbers as those without" which is a lot like saying "Chicago still has gun problems" or "I wasn't hit directly by the bomb but I was still blown up in the explosion". The counties are connected by non-guarded land borders, because that's how counties work. Yes, the Florida state government seems to be fighting mask mandates in court (in some way) while Florida is set to become the world's epicenter.

    6) The highest death seven-day-average Florida had was 60 in early May. It just hit 59.

And to touch back on an earlier topic, the Miami school superintendant went on Meet the Press to say that the only way kids would be returning to school, is if y'all just wore the damn mask for the six weeks leading up to it.

We need the science ... rather than politics influencing what is legitimately a community concern.
    Wanna see the video?

The mayor was right behind him, saying the county's hospitals weren't full yet, but they could hit "full" by throwing a roll of paper towels from where they were standing. And he was serious enough to go on CNN to say it.

EDIT: Phoenix is following that idea, going on live TV asking the governor to actually take action. Arizona might not be as bad as Florida, but it is bad and getting worse. They had 86 deaths yesterday. Yesterday. Arizona has like 7 million people and they had almost as many deaths as California. Yes, the cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Arizona are outpacing the rate of testing.

There is no good news in Florida. They just had the single highest increase in cases that any state has ever had (it was California until recently). I'm legit wondering if, removing Florida, US cases would be going up or down. The fact that I'm not sure is how bad this shit is. Their positivity rate is over ten percent.

And Trump was there Friday. No, he didn't have a mask on.

So by now, we're all familiar with Mueller's OP ED, the one in which he says Stone is a convicted felon "and rightly so". Taking issue, of course, with the "witch hunt" label thrown on it by Trump while he was golfing.

Well, I was told in the shower that Graham is going to call Mueller to testify before the Senate.

I think Graham thinks he can win this one. He likely read, yes Graham does read he's not Trump, Mueller's OP ED which was taken directly to the people without the benefit of redactions, closed doors, or other means to spin it in the GOP's favor. He, and the other GOP panel members, are probably trying to line up very specific questions of the "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" variety, thinking they can find a gap in Mueller's armor to get a knife in.

Problem is, Mueller's the Terminator. The steel's on the inside. Knives don't do dick against the Terminator.

Worse, Mueller's almost never spoken up and now he has -- which is a lot like saying "it rained in the desert" or "Breccia passed on chocolate". It's a big deal, and Mueller's likely not only prepared for such leading questions, but ready to knock it out of the park when a Democrat asks literally anything.

Graham really wanted the Mueller report to be a Deep State hit job that he could discredit, but found nothing and gave up. Maybe he thinks he'll find salvation in this testimony, that it'll be the genesis of some new way to discredit Mueller and lead his credibility to a dark fate. But no matter how much he wants a rise of the machines of propaganda and conspiracy theories to help him out, the chronicles of this testimony will say the same thing: things only get worse, and worse, and worse, with each passing attempt to bring down the Terminator.

Graham should have stuck with just bad-mouthing Mueller on the golf course with Trump and called it a day, rather than bringing this up in public. I'm sure he'd have been much happier if he'd stayed at the tee, too.

Hold up .... don't we all remember how horrible Mueller's testimony was the first time? He came off as very meek, and sometimes confused. It was not a good look at all. Graham is probably assuming Mueller will come off at least that bad again, if not worse. Which would be another win for the bad guys.

GOP lawmakers were asking questions about a 450-page document as if Mueller had memorized every word, and Mueller refusing to say "we should arrest the President of the United States". You could be right, Graham and company could have misinterpreted that as weakness.

    - - - Updated - - -

Okay, I know it's an OP ED, but
    1) there's still important info inside, as more and more of these have, and
    2) there is zero fucking chance I'm passing up this headline.

House appropriators extend middle finger to NASA's 2024 moon landing goal

    See?

The Trump administration proposed in its budget submission for NASA for FY 2021 that $4.7 billion be allocated to exploration research and development (R&D), including the Human Landing System (HLS). The numbers were designed to assure that NASA could return astronauts to the moon by 2024.

However, the House Appropriators were pleased to disagree. The subcommittee that funds NASA marked up a bill that allocated $1.56 billion for exploration R&D. That means that the HLS would get just over $600 million for the next fiscal year, inadequate for achieving a 2024 moon landing.
    NASA was...not thrilled.

Now, before we get into any more discussion on the topic (yes, funding will be the focus, well it'll be my focus) first, I want to give my usual 24 hour notice to the Trump supporters in the audience. Why were we going back to the moon, again? It's the funniest thing, I can't remember. Maybe you can find the specific reason we were going back and link it here. If you don't within 24 hours, I'll assume authority, and the reason will be "Trump's ego".

Those are some seriously rose-colored glasses you are wearing. It was pretty much universally heralded as bad. Democrats were hyping it up expecting fireworks, and all Mueller gave them was a whimper. Maybe now he's out of fucks to give, and will come off better? I kind of doubt it though.

  14. #48494
Its weird how trump wearing a mask has basically ended the mask wearing as a political issue, which is literally why weve been asking for him to wear a mask because trumpers literaly wont do it unless its officially approved by their dear leader
Would of been nice 3 months ago

What? No. People were disappointed because he wouldn't come out and say "arrest the motherfucker" and wouldn't answer questions outside of the 400+ page report he gave. Apart from that he stayed pretty solid. It wasn't a slam-dunk because Mueller refused to do anything but pass his findings on to Congress to let them do their jobs--which they failed--but that has more to do with Mueller adhering to the letter of the law and being unwilling to step outside the bounds of his authority. He didn't come across as "meek" in the least.

Calling someone meek for doing their job to the letter is weird.

Basically just confirming that the infection and death count is so high, because Trump misplayed the politics of a pandemic. It wasn’t and isn’t about the actual disease...

Hey remember when Trump's rabid fanbase were cheering for 4-5-6% GDP growth, 25 million new jobs, a trade deal with China, the Wall, a balanced budget with a tax cut, etc?

Now they're cheering for wearing a mask one time in a hospital, and drinking a glass of water with one hand.

The goalposts are on fucking Mars.

Trump has undermined himself to much which is why people him wearing a mask at this point has created a no win scenario for him.
If he wore a mask 2 months ago then nobody would have said anything, now he just looks kind of weak.

America's stupidity with handling the virus is now starting to hurt other countries.

Japan is 'shocked' and furious at the US after a major coronavirus outbreak at 2 Marine bases in Okinawa — and says the US is not taking the virus seriously

"After months with no confirmed COVID-19 infections on Okinawa, this week the Marine Corps experienced two localized clusters of individuals who tested positive for the virus," a post on the official Marine Corps Installations Pacific Facebook page said.
