So to take a mildly amusing break from the shitshow, Ghislaine Maxwell is reportedly being moved from cell to cell in order to avoid assassins.

I'm torn between imagining a Scooby-Doo hallway chase scene or picturing an assassin checking exactly one cell and being like "Ah fuck, she ain't here, better call this off."

And Trump's niece, Mary Trump, just got the go-ahead to publisher her book.

Trump is not having a great summer, why wouldn't anyone sign his yearbook?

Mmm? Can I be that guy? I wouldn't mind him firing Fauci. Trump more or less put put Fauci in the cooler and never meets or listens to him anyways. So I wish he would fire Fauci, just shows more incompetence. So throw more logs on the fire and fire Fauci.

So people out there just for your comfort. I hope no more Covid cases or deaths, but Trump is ignoring Fauci and I want Trump out. Again, more logs and maybe get more people to recognize that Trump will blow up anything.

I'd love to hear the justification of violating an NDA she signed.

In a 20-page ruling, Dutchess County Supreme Court Justice Hal Greenwald said the bid by President Donald Trump's brother Robert to block publication of his niece's book didn't pass legal muster — and noted news of the book's contents had already "reached millions of people by the tremendous attention it has gained by the media.”
Okay, okay, we've heard that one before. Of course, that sounds more like the publisher and less like the author. Let's keep trying.

Greenwald noted that "at the time the Agreement was agreed upon, the Trump family were New York based real estate developers and not much else. They were not elected officials or TV personalities."
Oh right, yes. The laws are different for public figures, aren't they? Things like slander and libel and...whatever this lawsuit was change for them.

Okay, but still, doesn't quite feel quite there yet. Doesn't feel quite...Trumpy enough. Is there anything else in the article that would actually demonstrate this wasn't just a court case, but an actual Trump court case?

The judge said Robert Trump's contention that the agreement barred Mary Trump from ever writing about her family was overly broad, and also noted that he didn't explain how the book's publication would harm him, as his court filing claimed.

"His allegations are unsupported and conclusory," the judge wrote.
There it is! Ah, there's the Trump incompetence we all know! Trump just made up an accusation and took it to court, something I guess worked in the past but seems to have hit a big of a snag. Like...Hitler trying to blitz Russia, just because he was able to blitz Poland. That's more like our Sieg Heil to the Chief.

But you know...that's a good Trump story. We need a great Trump story. Is there anything else in this court case that really makes this go from "that looks like Trump" to "that could only be Trump"?

Robert Trump, the president's younger brother, filed suit last month seeking to block the book's publication, arguing it violated a confidentiality agreement Mary Trump had signed ending a court fight with the president and his siblings. That court battle involved a fight over the estate of the president's late father, Fred Trump. Mary Trump and her brother had charged that the president and his siblings deprived them of their fair share of the estate.
Wow. I mean, "Trump did not pay what he was contractually owed" is old news, even though it does fit exactly what we're looking for. But stealing from his own family by subverting the wishes of his dead parents? I mean, no wonder they wanted an NDA. Trump was caught grave robbing.

So there you have it, a single article that sums up all things Donald Trump pre-election. He sues when people say mean things about him but has no grounds to do so; he's incompetent and hires incompetent people; he doesn't pay people what he's contractually owed yet seems surprised when he claims someone broke the contract for which he refused to pay him; and not even his own family think he's a good human being.

Ah, so much Trump history in just one ruling. If only there was a sign about the future, something about consequences for his actions finally coming to pass...

To quote United States v. Bolton...
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    *deep breath*

    MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

At this point, Trump firing Fauci might even be impeachable by Republican standards. But I'll be okay with "competent person in charge" because hopefully it'll save lives. In fact, Trump once said he saved millions of lives. With equal evidence to back it up, I now decree Fauci has saved those millions of lives. Anyone who wants to challenge me has to remember, the other side of that argument is "I'm taking Trump at his word". Good luck!

Just over 65k new cases today and we can probably expect higher tomorrow.

As posted before, Florida had 12.6k cases, but reported only 35 deaths. Fuck Florida.

Just over 9k cases for Texas, so it's still BAD there. About 8.3k for California; still bad. New records for Tennessee, Kansas and, sadly, Washington (yep, it's coming around there again). Probably new records for several other states too but see previous disclaimers. Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, the Carolinas and Ohio are all in the thousands and all flirting with their top daily tallies. The only good bit of news is that Arizona had "only" 1.3k new cases today. We'll know tomorrow if that's a real drop or just another weekend anomaly.

Deaths were, again, higher than previous Mondays since the beginning of June. The 465 today brings us above 138k and I do expect we'll start seeing death counts above 1k again--if not tomorrow during the corrections, then sometime this week. This brings the real possibility that we'll be at or near 150k by August--when it was originally predicted we'd be at 134k. I guess they didn't account for rampant stupidity and an adherence to Trump's ridiculous mandates on reopening.

    Stay safe, folks.

."Biden & Obama stopped their testing ... I'm sure you don't want to report it" - Trump absurdly tries to blame Obama for problems w/ testing for Covid-19, which didn't exist until nearly 3 years after he left office. He then falsely suggests the 1918 flu pandemic started in 1917. https://t.co/uXu4NT3sxt

The only amount of slack I'll cut for him is that I'm pretty sure he was talking about H1N1 with respect to Obama/Biden. He's still wrong, but we should hold him accountable for the things he actually gets wrong instead of making up stuff that his braindead supporters will seize on and use to distract everyone from his falsehoods.

Yes, I could have mentioned this, but it was a direct question about COVID-19. So he is senile? I mean if you want to make a talking at least emphasize what your point is. So he is too stupid to make his point.

Is he senile? Absolutely. Riddled with dementia? Yup. He ALSO will never talk about something that will paint him in a poor light, so he deflects. He distracts. He changes the subject. You want to talk about his fucking awful COVID-19 response? He'll talk about how awful Obama's ebola response was even though he'll have to make up a bunch of lies on the spot because it was actually pretty stellar. Then he'll drone on about it for long enough that he'll convince himself the question is answered and move on to something else.

It's nothing new. It's what we've seen from him since before he even took office.

Can't think of a better place than here.

Primer: So one of Tucker Carlsons head writers, who had been writing for his show for 2 years and was also employed by his online news site, Daily Caller, had an interesting online persona. It was uncovered that for years he posted some extremely racist, sexist, bigoted garbage across the internet on accounts traced back to him recently, with plenty of mentions of his work for Carlson and a surprising number of instances of words he posted on the internet earlier in the day appearing on Carlson's show later that night almost verbatim.

    He got fired for it.

Fast forward to today, once again a Fox News host announces a "long planned" vacation following involvement in a controversy. It's really weird how they always manage to plan these well in advance and scandals just happen to occur right before they leave.

Carlson obviously took a hard stance against his former employee for the hateful content he posted by...attacking the press for outing him because he had such a promising career ahead.

Interesting interview with Dr. David J. De La Zerda, the director of medical ICU at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

The new Covid-19 patients are getting younger. They are not seeing that much obesity. Maybe 20% of patients are obese. The majority of the ICU patients at his hospital are young and healthy.

Yet, they get sicker than the previous wave of older patients. First the new patients are requiring more oxygen. Second low blood pressure. So they have to use medications to bring the blood pressure to a normal level. He expects to see the mortality rate to start climbing up soon.

While it probably doesn't get called off, I'd imagine moving her around does complicate the Eppstein sort of "suicide". Taking her out will have to be more direct.

I think the point was that it's fewer than expected given that obesity and age were scapegoated for the deaths early on. "Underlying conditions" and all that.

Depends on location. SF obesity rate for examples is between 10 - 11%. Pretty low by any standard. Anyway, I was just repeating what the doctor said in the interview. The low obesity rate in SF may account for its low mortality rate of only 50 Covid-19 death to date.

You can't beat this CNN headline:

America shuts down again -- choosing reality over Trump's false claims

I didn't paraphrase - this is the actual title.

Well, obesity is a very high risk factor for covid-19, mostly for deaths though

If Fox isn't pulling any of their idiotic punches with their headlines, then I don't see why CNN should.

Additionally, CNN's title of "America takes action in direct defiance of Trump" does feel a lot more solid than Fox's usual "random talking head opines on why Trump will destroy socialist Biden" headline.
