It's nice to see that the approval from Republicans seems to be trending down as well...but Jesus Christ... 80% is pretty horrifying. If nothing else, it goes to show that politicizing something that should be as trivial as wearing a mask has worked wonders for his base.

People keep telling me not to paint all Republicans with a Trump brush but that picture sure seems to tell me his support among Republicans has barely wavered despite the utter shitshow around his handling of the repsonce.

Well even if it has been trending downward since the end of March the republican approval rating of 80% for the corona virus handling is about the same as in the early days of the pandemic (late February, beginning of March).

One obvious question that is left hanging is whether 80% of republicans say it's "my president right, or wrong"; or whether people who disapprove switch party.

The GOP voters who disapprove of Trump are the ones who say they're independent voters. They probably haven't switched parties but might not vote for Trump while voting for GOP down ticket. The GOP voters aren't switching sides.

I would expect everyone, no matter the political affiliation, to be upset about this.

They might think to themselves it's OK because they agreed with the targets. But as we all know government doesn't give back power it got (y'all still take your shoes off at the airport and get your balls fondled). One day government will switch political affiliation and conservative folk might be targets themselves.

That would be plausible, my question was whether we have seen that shift.

I tried to look and https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/p...filiation.aspx more shows a shift from republicans to nothing since early March; neither independent nor democrat. Basically republicans down 5 percentage points, independents up 2, democrats up 1, nothing up 3.
However, that isn't much compared to polling errors, and the latest poll was in early June (I couldn't find a summary at 538).

The White House pushes to eliminate billions from a relief proposal drafted by Senate Republicans.
