Jacksonville sheriff says security for Trump's ego rip is not possible.

Duval County Sheriff Mike Williams told Politico that security plans put forth for the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville, Florida, next month are "not achievable" under current time constraints.

The decision to move most of the RNC's programming to Jacksonville last month has already come under scrutiny due to a massive surge in coronavirus cases in Florida. These new security concerns deal another blow to President Trump's hopes for a raucous in-person convention.

"As we're talking today, we are still not close to having some kind of plan that we can work with that makes me comfortable that we're going to keep that event and the community safe," Williams told Politico in an interview published Monday.

"We do need law enforcement officers and we’ve gotten commitments, but not to the level that we thought we needed. And a lot of that is people having virus concerns from their communities, and I understand that," he continued.
Um...wasn't it moved to Jacksonville because NC couldn't do it, either? Man, it's a shame that the lethal outbreak Trump allowed and now encourages is preventing him from having rallies. It's like there are consequences for his actions or something.

    EDIT:

"But there's a lot of things that need to happen: an event schedule nailed down, and being able to sign contracts and spend money so that we can prepare for this event. And none of that has happened yet."
Hmm. Didn't Trump refuse to pay for event security over and over? Man, it's a shame bla bla bla consequences.

Presumably he would act as an interim President to deal with foreign affairs and working with the FEC to set new elections as soon as humanly possible, then abdicate to the new President-elect after elections were held.
It's important to note that only the Vice President actually becomes President. Anyone else in the line of succession only becomes Acting President.

So, Trump is sending unidentified federal troops to disappear protesters and somehow Rand Paul is a voice of reason?!

"We cannot give up liberty for security. Local law enforcement can and should be handling these situations in our cities but there is no place for federal troops or unidentified federal agents rounding people up at will,"
Someone stole an infinity stone or something because reality keeps changing.

He occasionally remembers that he cosplays as a libertarian and has to do something to keep up the act.

Someone reminded him he's a wannabe libertarian. Don't worry, he'll forget it soon enough.

Good news! Trump is finally beginning to promote mask wearing, framing it as an act of patriotism.

IF only he'd done this like...I dunno...4-5 months ago?

If anyone, like me, predicted Trump would suddenly start saying "masks are good, and I was always in favor of them" pat yourself on the back, he's doing that right now.

Means next on the list is "will he require masks in Jacksonville?"

    (re-reads last post)

    Maybe.

    EDIT: DAMN YOU @Edge-

I would guess in the next 24-48 hours he will do something to mix that message. He knows what he should be saying he just does not want to do it.

Trump: A payroll tax cut must be in the next relief package!

GOP: We're really not that into it

I think when a person has a check in his hand, X number of dollars .... I think that is going to do more economic good than if we dribble out $30 every paycheck because people are going to notice it
    -- Grassley

Yeah, even though they are following "No to Everything" McConnell, they'd rather hand out a check than a payroll tax cut.

I think to some extent even the GOP recognized after how badly their last tax cut went over with the non rich giving bred crumbs that dissapear into the noise of pay check to paycheck numbers is not something people notice or care much about. Businesses like it but you get basically 0 credit from workers at all for doing it so may as well give out an actual check that people notice and get some PR boost from it.

But...with that $30 a paycheck they can pay for their Costco membership.

Maybe. But that article also said the GOP members were talking about, for example, SS running out of funds. Again, funny how things like "crippling deficit" suddenly matters now...it didn't 2017, 2018 or 2019. (2020 is a special case)

Regardless of political affiliation, someone about to miss a rent payment won't be comforted by $30 every 2 weeks.

EDIT: Shit, forgot, unemployed people don't pay payroll taxes. The break will help them zero.

Really what we need is a back-to-work "signing bonus", an extension of PPP loans, and extension of the enhanced unemployment benefits.

Student loan forgiveness would be nice to have, not need to have.

As somebody who lost their job from this, I am only whole because of the $600/week. Without that, I'd have blown through all my savings by June and I'd be missing a mortgage payment this month.

I don't get this, to be honest. The jobs flat-out don't exist. PPP and other business help was there to keep people from being fired in the first place. If all that wasn't enough to keep the company in business, their employees are just out there with nowhere to go.

And I'm sorry to hear about your circumstances. It's an increasingly common story, and I wish it wasn't.

If you can forgive a brief sports interlude... Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game is a presidential tradition dating back to President Taft and since then every sitting president has thrown out a first pitch, except for Trump.

So now, on the final opening day of Trump's presidency (either because he will lose re-election or destroy american infrastructure to the point where pro sports will be impossible), the Washington Nationals have chosen Dr. Anthony Fauci to throw out the first pitch on Thursday. I'm sure he will be sporting his customary Washington Nationals mask as he does so.

Damn, that is very well played by the Nats.

    Good on them.

Just for that, I'll make sure to support the team even harder.

And the expiration date for that PPP is october, which means people who were furloughed like airline employee's going back to work in august with less hours might still lose their job a few months later. The only places that seem like they are actually hiring is warehouse distribution like amazon or places that sell groceries.

Seeing Trump in all these interviews, especially the one on Fox, makes me wish Sanders was his opponent even more. I really dislike Trump and want him out. I'm still not convinced that Biden is great, it's just the better option between Trump for 4 more years and Biden.
