And Senate Republicans are addressing the important issues facing us, like returning to the gold standard and...wait what?
Yep, they're pushing a Fed nominee with the absolutely fucking bullshit notion that the gold standard, which was abandoned a century ago because it's absolutely awful. While most of America was fixated Tuesday on the coronavirus pandemic and what the future might hold, Republicans on the Senate Banking Committee voted to move the country’s economic policy back to the 19th century.
The action came in the form of a party-line vote to advance the nomination of Judy Shelton as a member of the Federal Reserve Board to a floor vote by the full Senate. The defining feature of Shelton’s economic viewpoint, you see, is a return to the gold standard.
The foolishness of this position is hard to overstate. During its reign, which ended about 100 years ago, the gold standard fomented unemployment and obstructed governmental control of national economic affairs. It helped bring about and subsequently worsened the Great Depression.

Well, we already knew he was going to do it:
Trump to send 'surge' of federal agents to US cities
"I'm sure the Second Amendment folk will have something to say about that..."

Based on what I can find, this is not a Portland/Washington DC style federal goon squad. These are augments to the existing law enforcement agencies (Mostly Chicago PD), and will operate under the US Attorneys for their relevant area, not to the Justice Department/DHS. It isn't great, but there is an argument to be made that this might be necessary. Of course Trump is going to cloak it in vile rhetoric, but so far I am not terribly alarmed by what we know about this.
Of course it could always turn out to be absolutely horrific, and I am definitely suspicious of it, but I am not sure this is what a lot of people are claiming it is.

Agreed, hence the suspicion. This administration has a habit of being far more sinister then the plans they announce. CBP and DHS personnel have no business on our streets, period. And no law enforcement ever has a valid reason to dress like the military, that is extremely offensive to how America operates.
Not gonna lie, one of the reasons why I hate that Trump came up with "Space Force" is because he's an unimaginative twat who doesn't know how to name things.
United States Space Command, I mean come on, that sounds sooo much better and it's just the USAF Space Command with the AF removed. But no. "Space Force."
