Two quick additions before I get to one of the best ice cream parlors in the country, and I have looked:

    1) in addition to everything in my last post, the GOP is increasingly worried their old, sick, frail, dying voter base will be stifled by Trump's assault on mailed votes.

    2) TikTok has officially responded with a variant of "fuck you fatty, we're going nowhere".

Our so called President is playing golf while Pelosi, Mnuchin and Schumer are negotiating. All he did was sent his chief of staff (Mark Meadow) to the meeting. WTH! Where is the great negotiator. This is so freaking dumb. The people that elected him are even dumber.

No one cares about Trump, let him publicly veto Covid relief for 'the common man' and see how well that goes for him and the GOP.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I would love to see that thrown in his face as well. Biden has hundreds of examples to pick from -- but, yes, the weekend in which coronavirus relief ended should be near the top of that list. Is Trump a member of Congress? No. Is he the leader of the Republican Party? Yes. He should be using his political weight to influhuuhuuheeheeheeHAHAHAHAH oh man...Trump with political weight...man, I almost finished that sentence. Trump's been making random-ass requests like "FBI building" and "payroll tax cut" that even McConnell is openly saying "no, we're not doing that".

A real President, at this time, would be pushing a deal that meets bipartisan support. The Democrats not only don't want to work with Trump (bad for their election year image) they don't think he'll pay them and they don't think he'll survive re-election. A growing number of GOP members are on board with all three of those. Trump has become more hindrance than help to the party he took over and to the country in general -- and this happened a while ago, we're just seeing it in full display.

58,429 new cases; about 10k fewer than the previous Saturday and the first time since July 12th it was lower than 60k. There are some tiny embers of hope for the time being.

Florida: 9,642 new cases; 179 deaths
California: 7,382 new cases; 137 deaths
Texas: 6,720 new cases; 268 deaths
Georgia: 3,660 new cases; 73 deaths
Arizona: 2,992 new cases; 53 deaths
Tennessee: 2,225 new cases; 7 deaths
Illinois: 1,639 new cases; 8 deaths
Alabama: 1,626 new cases; 23 deaths
South Carolina: 1,583 new cases; 39 deaths
North Carolina: 1,264 new cases; 33 deaths
Oklahoma: 1,244 new cases; 8 deaths
Mississippi: 1,134 new cases; 30 deaths
Wisconsin: 1,062 new cases; 13 deaths
Maryland: 1,019 new cases; 13 deaths

No new records jump out at me, though some states are still trending up towards previous highs (Wisconsin had their second highest total of new cases today). It's the beginning of the weekend so totals will likely be underreported through to the end of Monday, but it's still good that they've been lower this entire week than the previous week. It's not done spreading in most states, but it appears the hardest-hit states have passed their peaks.

Deaths went above 1k for the 5th day in a row, as expected, ending at 1,123, about a couple hundred more than the previous Saturday, putting the total at 157,898. Nothing else to note since this is what we've all been saying will happen. It will likely continue to be over 1k next week after the weekend lull in reporting. The US will pass 160k on Tuesday, most likely.

    Stay safe, folks.

Okay, when you post something this big you really need a cited source.

There's nothing that indicates that he actually went to Walter Reed today. I found one unsubstantiated tweet to that effect, but it was later deleted, and the line it was quoting was from an article about last year's unscheduled visit.

It's not going to be easy. We're seeing new studies saying children can spread the disease like...um...a disease. They are just less likely to become symptomatic cases or be hospitalized.

Meh, could be a lot of things at his age. I'm actually more curious about what appears to be a bunch of white, bound document-type papers jammed in-between the newspapers. They could ALSO be a lot of things, of course, but they have a more "official" air about them.

Didn't we already know this? Kids are disease-riddled vermin. We at least already knew thanks to an earlier study that 10 and up can spread it as easily as adults.

Jesus...that's school opening and everyone getting it pretty quickly. No symptoms mean no testing. Sits with kids for a few weeks, getting passed around. Then teachers/admin get it - school's closed.

Stay safe indeed. See you in May.

I mean, this is probably the nightmare scenario for the [previously functioning but now politically gridlocked] CDC. Spread a pandemic around, verify kids can get it, then put them all back in school. Rinse, repeat - and then burn the bodies of the [much more vulnerable] adults in large piles outside of cities.

Not blaming kids/teachers/schools. We all know where the blame lies (and double entendre ftw).

This might be as bad as it can get.

Nah, I was thinking of this from mid-July. Fantastic to hear it's even worse than previously thought.

I think your friend got some bad info. No way this could be a secret and not be all over the news right now. No one is reporting. Not digging on you, to be clear - just looks like a false report. Got my hopes up, too.

And after it decimates the school teachers/admins, no one is going to open schools again until post vaccine. Plus, medical professionals are already at the breaking point in some states.

My guess is it's because they're expecting more dissent from within than they'd care to admit to the public.
